Dear Facebook: We're through. It's not me, it's you.

I am done.  Just absolutely done.  I can't believe it's finally come to this point.  I can't believe that after all of these years, that it would end like this.

I just can't do this whole "Facebook" thing anymore.  When I first got a Facebook account, it was the…

Easy Steps for Law of Attraction

That moment you realize that everything is going right, all that you need or want is coming into your life right when its suppose to be. Some call this luck, coincidence, or just plan chance, but I call this synchronicity or being in the vortex. This whole week I have been focusing my attention on what I do want. Everything you can imagine has gone wrong and I just didn't let it phase me. I just allowed the Universe to do what it must in order for me to get what I need. I have been reading…

Standardized Testing, TCAP, Common Core and Why it All Sucks.

The TCAP standardized tests (aka the Transitional Colorado Assessment Program) have finally wrapped up for the school year.

Have you seen the clip from the Stephen Colbert's Report yet? (You can find it here.) Kind of sums up how I feel about Common Core and the testing procedures. He just doesn't swear as much as I do when I talk about them. Because they are completely &#$*%@*…

Maria's Random Rants - The Problem With Desire

It’s a hard thing to want something, and I mean really want something, with all of your heart, and every bit of your being. So much so you can barely contain the elation in your voice when you talk about it, nor the flutter in your belly attesting to both extremes of excitement and apprehension. You find yourself struggling to keep the knot in your throat from rising just thinking about it, dreaming on it.

Yup, desire can do that to you.

Twenty years  of…

FUll Disclosure

I am a lawyer…kind of. In the interest of full disclosure, I must admit I have never practiced. Not a day. It’s not because I couldn’t find a

job…I didn’t even look. It’s not

because I didn’t get good grades…United Missouri Bank (UMB) thought I had a

It’s because I wanted to be a lawyer…but I didn’t want to be a lawyer.…

The Path of Least Resistance

When I first became a parent, I remember very clearly my mother advising me to "choose my battles carefully". It was her belief, and soon became mine, that when raising children, you must not put yourself in a position of "dictator". "Growing up shouldn't be a battlefield" my mother would say.

Her words were always in the back of my mind as I was raising my daughter (now 32) and are still a very large part of my parenting philosophy as I now raise my grandchildren.
