Parent Leadership, One of Our Most Valuable Resources

One of the most valuable resources our society has at our disposable is parent leadership. February is National Parent Leadership month. Created by Parents Anonymous ® Inc. in 2004, February is set aside to recognize, honor and celebrate parents for their invaluable leadership roles in their homes and communities, as well as state, national and international arenas. This annual event acknowledges the strengths of parents as leaders and promotes awareness about the important roles parents can…

Life Balance - Having second thoughts about how you're spending your time?

eople take information in via different modes, so although the bulk of my posts are in written form, here is a video mini-coaching session on life balance.  This was the result of a client (a wife and mom and business owner) who was worrying out loud about the amount of hours she has been spending at the office.

Enjoy, and I'd love to hear your feedback. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvMYCPZK4pk

GOD MADE ME CHEDDAR; I MADE ME SWISS

  • Like a brick of cheddar cheese, I was made in the solid image of God: destined to be whole; wired to be filled. There was never meant to be any holes...But along the way--like swiss cheese & by my own doing--holes got added to what was meant to be solid. Sometimes, I get discouraged that my life has made me hole-y. Thankfully, I am loved by a God who--when I ask Him to fill the spaces--gloriously descends an extra dose of His…

LIFE'S LIKE A MECHANICAL BULL

  • Recently, DJ got a chance to ride a mechanical bull. As I stood by, I realized it translated to life. Life's like a mechanical bull. It really is. You're on this thing you CAN'T control & all you CAN control is holding on for dear life. And then? Like the bull, you get kicked off sometimes, don't ya? And whatta ya do? Lie on the ground? Run away? Kick the bull? Or...maybe like DJ, we simply get back on. If life's got you riding a…

If You've Never Been Chosen...

You were chosen. God chose you. Others may have left you. Others may have looked past you. Others may have forgotten you. But God? He chose you. If He has a fridge, your name is on it in those ABC magnets. If He has a wallet, your picture is in it. In his book? Your name is written. He thinks about you. He cries for you. He adores you. He can't wait to rush into your life and rescue you. You were chosen. Before you were born, you were hand-picked,…

IF YOU WONDER IF GOD'S HEARING YOU...

Have you wondered if God's hearing you? I've wondered that. But know that your God is NOT the God of delays, pauses, forgetfulness, To-Be-Announced's, To-Be-Determined's & forgetful RSVPs. God is WELL AWARE of my voice, my tears, my cries, my needs, my pleas, my begs, my requests, my burdens...and yours too.  It's not a question of can God hear us; it is a question of am I willing to wait for Him to answer? Here are some encouraging verses…

WHAT PEACE LOOKS LIKE. (TO ME, ANYWAY)

  •

  • Today, as I peered through the camera lens & saw what I was about to capture, something dawned on me. The water was flat--nearly a motion in it. The atmosphere was calm--not even a breeze. And the combination of the two is what I'd surmise as peace on Earth: still breezes, still waters. You know what? This snapshot is also a picture of what my soul can look like…

HELP! I HATE FICTION!

  • I've never been crazy for fiction books. But in the last year, despite having a fiction-book anti-attitude, I read three of them that were SO good they are worth sharing: 1) The Shack by William P. Young 2) The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry & 3)…

How Do Ya Pray, Anyway?

Jesus' got with some of his passe & gave them a great schoolyard lesson on how they should do this thing called "pray."  Naturally, He gave them the greatest answer ever. It's found in Matthew 6. I pray this prayer often for my own life & for others & I pray it a lil somethin' like this...

God, you are in heaven…

COULD WE SUM UP LIFE THIS WAY?

Today, while driving, I had an ephiphany of sorts. I heard something speak into my head: "Do my best with where I'm at." As I considered that, I started to translate it...

In depression? Do our best with where we're at.  In unemployment? Do our best with where we're at.  In mourning? Do our best with where we're at.  In celebration…

MY KINDA CRAPPY DAY

I started today too early, arising at 4:57am & it seemed to go downhill from there. Lost my patience with myself, lost my cool with my kids, screwed up a new crock-pot dinner, yada, yada, yada.  So what is the success-formula for starting your day off wrong?  'Cause we don't get do-over's. And then we try to make-up to those we afflicted with pithy statements like, "I'm sorry I'm just having a bad day" Puh-lease!  I'm wracking my brain wondering what…

WHEN YOU LOSE A CHILD

It is every parent's nightmare. Except this time, it wasn't mine, it was my 5 yr old's. His brother & I were in the children's corner at Barnes & Noble, doing homework. Per Andy's request, I let him stay in the toy section, adjacent to us. He knew where we were, we knew where he was.… Continue

IF I KNEW I WAS GOING TO DIE TOMORROW WHAT WOULD I DO TODAY?

...this is a very interesting question & it had me lying in my bed, sleepless. But after giving it some deliberation, I knew there'd be many things I'd do, but these 3 were of no-question...1) On all the social networks, I would advertise a casting call to anyone & everyone who… Continue

TIPS FOR ZITS

Occasionally, I like to blog about matters not of the heart. Take, for example, zits. We all get 'em. Straight up, don't they make you crabby? I mean, pop? Don't pop? Run to the ER? Cement with 14 layers of concealer & play like nobody notices? What to do, what to… Continue

ROTARY-PHONE GOD

You know what?? Back in the day, rotary phones didn't have speed-dial or fast connection. No matter what, when making a call, we had to patiently DIAL ten digits, one-by-one & wait for the caller to pick up. As far as expecting immediate answers, rotary phones inadvertently taught us patience. Today, when I'm trying to call God, do you think I'm expecting fast-speed, immediate cell-phone service out of Him? Perhaps God is still taking calls His way...i.e., the rotary way. Maybe what I… Continue

BOOKS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE

No abuse devastates me more than sexual abuse. Over the years, I've had painstaking discussions with people who have endured it. As they relayed their pain, I could feel my heart fill to its brim with tears. I am not an expert, however, I want to offer some resources that come highly recommended from the experts I've had the honor of knowing. I hope this helps someone… Continue
