Buttons. Yes, a strange fascination, I admit. But I love them.
I’ve always loved buttons. Those colorful, textured little baubles from the past. And yes, I know, it doesn’t exactly match up with the whole de-clutter philosophy…but they do bring me such happiness. And… Continue

New research is showing us fascinating information about the brain. We are now learning that we can form new brain cells at nearly any age with physical exercise, and that exercising before class can significantly boost learning capacity by spawning new brain cells. Learning new information immediately following aerobic exercise fills the new cells with information.
The new neural pathways formed during exercise are like new railroad tracks in our brains. If we don't use them, we… Continue

Call me old-fashioned, but a clean home does wonders for me. And not for just me, for my family.
At this stage in our lives, a time when four out of five of us are at home nearly all hours of every day, a clean home keeps us sane. Daily cleaning provides us with a sense of peace, routine and respect for our home and ourselves.
If your children are still under the age of five, you’ll find their natural instincts to be involved in most clean up is… Continue

The holiday season is here and most of us are planning and preparing to make our family gatherings a time of joy and celebration. From meals to gift giving, once November 1st arrives, the rush is on and anticipation builds.
For some, it can be a stressful time, for others it is their most favorite time of year. Most years, I find myself feeling a bit of both. When I feel the stress beginning to take hold, I am always brought back to my childhood and the lesson my parents instilled in… Continue

At a popular Australian pool last week, Matthew Kennedy, an 8-year old boy with autism, a severe speech impediment and learning difficulties, recognized that Emily, a 3-year old girl, was in distress. He jumped in, grabbed her arms, lifted her head above the water and pulled her out of the pool. Emily was unconscious and foaming at the mouth. Matthew’s father and the lifeguard began CPR, Emily began to breathe again and she was taken to the emergency room, still alive.
There are two… Continue

It's been almost a full two weeks since my old camera got sent out for repairs. I felt strange not having it around for those impromptu shots throughout the day. And I just about panicked not having it for all the great activities we've been doing. It's been quite a pendulum swing I guess- there are hardly any photos from the early years of our marriage- it was such a bother to pick up film, get it printed, and then deal with all the prints afterwards. I remember being apprehensive about the… Continue

Today's letter was O. Munch already knows how to make them with wood pieces, so she got started on that while I finished preparing our other activities. I taught her to write the letter and say its sound, as is our usual routine. Today's letter collage had us brainstorming words that begin with O and gluing spots of oatmeal-
Our craft was an adorable paper owl- you can get… Continue
