The Quiet Moments of the Day

There was so much to be done today, lunch and conversation to be had with a close friend, children playing behind us, dishes to be done, laundry to be folded, banana bread to be baked, tent making, giggle inducing, kisses, oh so many kisses, dinner to be cooked, baby food to be made. And amidst it all, I caught these moments, gentle, subtle moments that may have almost escaped me, life changing, breath taking moments. Moments ridiculous to anyone else but me, for me they…

Love is More Than a Four Letter Word

Rosemary Lichtman, Ph.D. and Phyllis Goldberg, Ph.D.

Long before it was a song, the saying was a part of our conversation - and it's especially appropriate during February, the month of love:

Love makes the world go 'round.

With all this whirling, love can make you feel off balance and dizzy. Sometimes it's tricky to keep your personal world turning without having it spin totally out of control. Although our focus is most often on romantic love,…

Nostalgia

Nostalgia

by Lynn on February 12, 2012

Nostalgia. I don’t know if its hormonal or just something that happens when a small human being comes into your life and touches your heart in spots that quite possibly could have been black before (maybe its just me). But something bizarre happened when my kids came into my life. I became extra, super, cry reading cards in the store, cry when watching Oprah on the treadmill at the gym, cry when driving by the elementary school at the…

Everyday Spirit - The Season of Love

By Jennifer Urezzio, Contributor – Spiritual Affairs

It was the day after Christmas. I stopped in the grocery store to pick up some necessities and was confronted with the Season of Love.

Giant pink and red hearts filled the aisle. I was surrounded by heart candies and heart cards and everything one would need to create the Season of Love. And yet, what is truly needed to…

Why I Can't Stop Watching THE HELP

I’m 10, have 5 siblings, an absent mother that yanked us out of our predictable home and away from my father whom I adored. However, she did not. At 28, with 6 kids, all she could understand was how she was robbed of her youth. She did not want to go to church, hang out with the other mothers, sew clothes, cook dinner, shop or clean. She wanted to march in protest lines, stand up for civil rights, hang out in the “hippy” section of Detroit and blare the Rolling Stones.…

Book Review: The Mason Jar by James Russell Lingerfelt

The Mason Jar written by James Russell Lingerfelt is a coming of age love story that will stay with me for a very long time. The author’s writing style drew me in right away. I finished reading the book in one day.

The story read like a long beautiful poem with vivid descriptions that made me feel like I was there in person. The story chronicles the main character Finn's first relationship with a fellow student named Eden. Finn fell madly in love with Eden, but…

They Can't Take Santa

I love my children. They are absolutely unbreakable and strong in spirit and it is SO inspiring. Today my 8 and 9 yr old found out from the other kids in school (and a teacher!) that Santa Claus isn't real. Totally heartbreaking, because I was determined to let them ride that train for a very long time. But with confirmation from a teacher, they weren't buying anything I was trying to sell them. My youngest had fallen asleep already, so luckily his dreams were still intact. So finally, we…

After Thanksgiving Sale

I am totally hyped to say that my Thanksgiving was awesome. I spent it with the people I love, it was quiet and peaceful, and the food was amazing. Way to go, Mom, by the way! I skipped Black Friday because besides being broke beyond belief, I wanted to just lay around with my babies. And that is exactly what we did. My children enjoyed a 5 hour Power Rangers marathon, again, which I ain't gonna lie, I did…
