Marketing. It's a word that simultaneously excites me and makes me cringe. Platforms are constantly changing, making it difficult to reach a target market (ahem, Facebook), prospective customers are tuning out more and more because there is a constant glut of information being thrown at them, key performance metrics that trended positive six months ago may not mean much now because marketing channels are flooded with content and becoming largely ineffective.
So the question is...with…Continue

I'm currently obsessed with Taylor Swift's newest hit, Style. I admit I wasn't always a fan but over the past months, I've changed my tune, no pun intended. Her music is peppy and catchy but what really impresses me is the way she's been able to transform her brand into a vocal empire.…

So you're sitting in front of your laptop a couple of months post-launch scratching your head, thinking "What the heck should I do NOW?"

As a small business owner I was always challenged with finding new ways of reaching fellow handbag junkies who would buy my designs. In retrospect, I tried to boil the ocean and I didn't reach my target at the right level. The primary goal was always to move units and recoup costs so I'd have funds to pump back into the business. At the end of the day, a lot of one-and-done customers didn't do much to sustain my rapidly shrinking market share.
After some research, I determined my…Continue

Okay. If I haven't made this point clear in the past, let me try again.
People are INUNDATED with information, 24 x 7. If yours doesn't have the potential to minimally raise an eyebrow, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!
I've experienced this firsthand in my own entrepreneurial endeavors and it never ceases to amaze me how some people just don't care about contributing to the overload. They have something to say and darn it, it shall be said. The only problem is, oftentimes, NOBODY…Continue

Hi, my name is Kristen and I am a handbag junkie.
In fact, I love them SO much that I spent a very large sum of money to design and sell my own. Unfortunately, though I cherished those handbags and saw them having a unique value proposition, my business never did become profitable. I really thought it was on the brink a couple of times but we all know close only counts with horseshoes and hand grenades.…Continue

I just spent two days in Atlantic City at a leadership offsite where one of the resounding themes was COMMUNICATION. There were a couple of other themes floating around as well....like gambling and drinking but for purposes of this article, I'll focus on the former. =)…

I'm not a Facebook guru, by any stretch.
My fan page confuses the heck out of me, specifically why some posts get minimal reach whereas others get tremendous engagement...we're talking mind-blowing numbers. From little old me. =)
I still have yet to figure out how these posts are evaluated by the elusive Facebook algorithms but here is what I suspect...they pick up on certain words and if there is anything remotely related to a contest or giveaway or solicitation of business,…Continue

People want to buy but they don’t WANT TO BE SOLD!
I love that quote. It’s so true. How many times do you go into a store, greeted by eager-beaver salespeople asking if they can help you find something to buy?
I could never be in sales…
But alas, I AM.
I’m an indie author. Not only do I write, but I also market and SELL.
Like with most businesses, the market is pretty much saturated with books. You name it, there’s a genre out there. And about a trillion…Continue

Okay, so about a week ago I wrote a post about email marketing techniques. Remember...I said I wanted to figure out a way to get people to actually open my newsletter? On my big BOOK LAUNCH DAY???
Well, here are the results of my efforts. Out of 229 recipients, 45.4% opened the email. That is a ROCKING number, folks!!!! The industry average, according to Mail Chimp, is 16.9%.
This is what I learned.
A sexy title with the…Continue
How many mailing lists do you subscribe to? Of all the emails that clutter your inbox, how many do you actually read or even OPEN, for that matter?
I'm sure the number is looooooooow. (It certainly is for me.)
So why bother sending them? They'll probably get deleted on sight anyway, right?
But if there is even a SLIGHT possibility a subscriber might actually take a minute to peruse the content, you better yank them in immediately otherwise any hope of…Continue

You may hear me talking about ways to achieve anything you want in your life. This post can help you write an effective action plan for your business, personal life, and even a hobby!
But first you must know what it is you want. Now don't get overwhelmed, you can just focus on 3 elements: Mind, Body, and Soul and then add on more elements like relationships, finances, etc to figure out what you want. This process doesn't have to happen overnight and as you evolve and…Continue
