Although the 2013 Academy Awards are history, one gem - Amour - will continue to shine. This heartbreaking and unflinching movie was painful to watch but it stimulated conversations with more questions than answers.
As the people we love decline, how do we deal with the inevitable suffering?
Austrian filmmaker Michael Haneke tackled this subject and won the 2013 Academy Award for best foreign language film. The leads, veteran French actors Jean-Louis…Continue

Valentine’s Day is by far one of my favorite ‘holidays’ but I’m honestly not sure why. It could be because of all the $1 crap I get our 2 little boys that excites them beyond words. Or maybe it’s the excessive eating of chocolate all day that makes my tummy happy. Or maybe it’s that I get to turn everything…Continue

We all remember the good ol' days....Where everything was perfect, he was perfect. We felt adored, lovely, holding hands and kissing weren't even a question.....
What happens when the good ol' days are gone? When nothing goes right, when neither of you are perfect is a reality, loveliness is exchanged for pjs, and affection is not what it used to be?
In the beginning we tell everyone ~ "we're in love!" Time goes on, life happens, choices are made and before you know it…Continue

As a couple with a family of lil ones, it is often difficult to find time, energy, and even desire to have alone time together, as a couple.
Hubby's are often tired from a long day of work. They come home spend time being daddy until the kiddos bedtime, and he collapses, thankful for the quiet, remote and bedtime.
Wives are exhausted from a long day at work (away from home or stay at home, both qualify). Making dinner, doing dishes, bath time, reading/cuddle time....all this…Continue

Our life together has not been a piece of cake, no storybook romance/fairy tale. We've had a lot of rocky roads. Throughout our six, almost seven years of marriage, we have had many prayer warriors. It is by God's grace, and through our faithful prayer warriors that we are together today.
There was a time where we lived "separate" lives, strangers living under the same roof. No relationship building, no time together. He lived his life, the children and I lived ours.

If I'm the self-proclaimed Queen of Attracting Stupid Situations, then my husband is without a doubt the King of Attracting Stupid Situations. (Not sure what that says about us being attracted to each other, but anyway.....) I swear, between the two of us, we are an accident waiting to happen at any given moment. The latest case in point? This past weekend when…Continue

My husband will hate that I’ve shared our story. I love him, but mostly I don’t care if this bothers him or not. It’s my story too. It’s the story of how we met.
When you are in high school, everyone wants to know when you will get your driver’s license. When you are in college, everyone wants to know what you are majoring in. When you finish college, everyone wants to know where you are working. When you are working, everyone wants to know if you are dating anyone. When you are…Continue

Hi, it’s me standing on my soap box. Yes… again.
Moms make difficult decisions every day: Should I buy the generic diapers on sale or should I splurge on name brand? Breast or bottle? Is my child crying because he really needs something or is he crying because he’s a little fussy? Despite the unsolicited advice and lectures I have endured regarding my…Continue

I was the first of my family and friends to have a baby last year during the baby boom. Cousins were pregnant, co-workers were pregnant, friends were pregnant, even famous people who are significantly older than me were pregnant. I began to suspect babies aren’t really made the way my mother told me. I think sometimes you can get pregnant from drinking water.…Continue

I remember that afternoon at the office water cooler. Two of my co-workers were discussing their summer reading lists. I jumped in to the conversation by admitting I couldn’t remember the last time I had read a book and I was curious if they had any recommendations.
When I was growing up, if I didn’t have a Barbie in my hand, I had a book. Yes, I was that kid. It started with an encyclopedia…Continue

I can’t tell a joke and I probably won’t tell this one very well. I am that annoying person who has to go back a moment before the punch line because I forgot to mention some crucial detail. I’m obsessed with being punctual, but that doesn’t mean I have good comedic timing.
I gave all of my comedic timing to my son.
My husband, mother, and I were discussing the pool of republicans running for the presidential nomination. Party animals, right? My son was too busy thinking about…Continue
