I like being married. I still get little thrills sometimes when someone refers to me as "Mrs. Markman" or when I get to introduce my husband to people. There is a security in being united to my husband who is not only the love of my life, but my best friend.

He's mine. I'm his. It's nice.…

Happy New Year - How's your marriage?

As much as I love the holidays and the great excuse it gives me to celebrate, I am glad that they are over. The inside decorations are put away, I promise I'll take down the outside ones as soon as it stops raining, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone back at the office again (it was getting a little lonely).…

The year of no weddings

When I was in my mid-20s, there was a three-year period where every other weekend I had a wedding (or wedding-related party) to go to. I bought items off registries, made appropriate wishes for the bride and groom and tried to not make any wardrobe blunders caught forever in someone else's wedding album.…

Our First Fight

We were married in May of 2003.  We were both twenty one years in age, looking back now we were so very young, my thinking then why wasn’t I married sooner.  It is amazing how you age and grow and until then have no clue of what adult life is like even though you think you have it all figured out.…

Hey, Dads: Is this really worth arguing over?

My husband and I were friends for years before we became a couple. All those years of friendship added up to lots of funny stories about mutual friends and was a great way to determine how compatible we are. Since the time of our transition from buddies to spouses, we've had relatively few arguments. Sure there are areas where we don't always see eye-to-eye, but overall, we are on the same page.…

Who is smarter in your marriage?

My husband and I have different educational backgrounds. I really enjoyed all my years of school, made excellent grades and went off to complete college in less than four years. My husband's experience was different as he doesn't have many fond memories of classes.…

Our Final Anniversary

My husband and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary at a fancy restaurant. After he ordered an expensive bottle of wine, he reached into his pocket and pulled out his gift to me. It was a handwritten list of treasured memories from our marriage. Memories, he said, that reminded him of how much we belonged together.

It was a long list, maybe twenty or so memories. I glowed…

In (his) sickness and in (her) health

My husband and I have been together for a long time. I like that about us. I like having this mental database on him - things he likes, things he doesn't like, shared memories and even memories that he thinks are his but are really mine. I even like it when I learn something new about him, because it is usually such a wonderful surprise. (Seriously, honey? You like Indian food? When did that happen?)…
