The Bee Gees Gene

Let me preface what follows with two key points:

1. If a child does something interesting once, it’s only interesting. If they do it consistently, then you’ve got something to worry about.

2. My taste in music sucks… as in I have no taste in music.

Having a child in and of itself is full of surprises. Despite expecting unexpected moments, I have noticed an unusual behavior in child that isn’t mentioned in What to Expect When You’re Expecting: The First Year. During…

The Toy-Which-Must-Not-Be-Named

My son doesn’t have a Jack-in-the-box. Excuse me while I pause and breathe a sigh of relief.

But what does alarm me are the toys that play music, light up, or have some other battery operated function… especially at 3 am.

If you’re a mom it’s not hard to imagine that 3 am wake-up call from your child. You hear a small sound coming from the baby monitor and hope it doesn’t become a bigger more upset sound. But the moans and groans become a cry and you accept your fate (if you…

The Moral of Griswold Family Vacations

I have never been a world traveler. I’ve only ever left the country to go to Canada, didn’t go to Walt Disney World until I was 19 years old, flew once on an airplane when I was 2 years old and not again until I was 24, and I have never been on the West Coast.

I can still remember those random winter days when we would gather for a family meeting to discuss where we wanted to go for our family vacation. Being the ten year old history buff I was, I always suggested colonial…

Lead by Example or Shut the Hell Up!

"Move!" That was the statement that started the battle between me and Fiance.

He walked over to my 8-year old, who was playing on my iPad and said, "Move!" My son frowned and looked at Fiance and then at me, and I softly said, "He meant excuse me, but move J." Fiance became angered and said, "No, I didn't."

Then, it was on.

His point: In my home, children can have the entire house, but my bedroom is my oasis.

My point: I work hard to teach the boys to be…

Till Death Do Us Barf

Misadventures in Motherhood:  Till Death Do Us Barf

Weddings are wonderful, festive, life-changing, and occasionally disastrous events. I suppose Forrest Gump's famous line could apply to them, in that you never know what you're gonna get.

I was absolutely thrilled when my best friend asked me to be Matron of Honor in her New Year's Eve…

Dear 23-Year-Old Me: In All Things, Give Thanks

Congratulations, you’re married.

You’re about to enjoy a honeymoon but it won’t be long before the warm, fuzzy fairy-dust of lovey-dovey grossness will settle and you’ll clearly see the relationship you’ve entered.

You’ll bicker over someone’s driving, limited closet space, and hangers.

Remarriage.... Me?

One of you asked whether I am considering remarriage... the answer is 100% a No, a NO.. and A NO..

One marriage is enough, two times will too much....... ooopsss...sorry, I am speaking for myself only... no offence to anyone...

On the serious note, once upon a time, I did think about it, when my kids were pretty and young, friends and relatives alike, they encouraged me to get into marriage again... but on the other hand, some jested about "now that…

Love The One You're With

It's Sunday night and I'm just sitting here thinking about what a great weekend it has been. We really needed it. It was a great ending to what had been a crazy week for all of us. Mattie has two different cheerleading teams that have practices on 3 different days. David is the head coach of Patrick's flag football team and Michael is playing flag football on another team that practices at a… Continue

Stress Fracture

Stress fractures aren’t an actual break in the bone and you can’t really see them on an x-ray, but they are incredibly painful and if not treated, they can create more complex problems later.

I have a stress fracture right now, but it isn’t in my bones.

It is in my…

Two Ships Passing In The Night...

Last weekend I got the most amazing pregnancy gift ever! I got a pregnancy pillow! Oh yes, it is amazing. A couple week's before that I got a body pillow, but it just didn't help as much and every time I had to turn over, I had to haul the body pillow to the other side. I'm a turner in the middle of the night, especially with sciatica. So having my friend give me this wonderful amazing pillow really has helped me sleep better.…

We're In Love. Get Over it.

Friday was JDubbs's and my fourth wedding anniversary.  We didn't do anything elaborate, but when you have two kids under three and the younger littlin' just got three teeth at the same time (including one molar), getting out to dinner a mile and a half away is a blessing and as much a present as we could ask for.

I didn't bring my camera.  We…

Book Review: If I Bring You Roses, by Marisel Vera

Award-winning, first-time novelist Marisel Vera pens an honest, heart-felt, often sad tale of an idealistic, naïve Puerto Rican girl named Felicidad who goes to America to be with the man she loves.

The story, told from an author omniscient point of view, begins in the early 1940’s in the Puerto Rican countryside and ends about ten years later in Chicago. It follows Felicidad’s…
