Making Time in Our Busy Lives for Family Meals

You've heard that there are many benefits to family meal planning, but there are also many challenges.  First, it’s difficult to plan a family menu for a whole week.  How do you keep from duplicating the same meals over and over?  Second, your family’s schedule may be very hectic with no one in the same place at…

I started participating in #ASKAWAYFriday and I have enjoyed it. I love connecting with other bloggers and learning more about them. I wanted to participate in this blog hop because I don’t always share a ton of information about myself. I thought #ASKAWAYFriday was the perfect way for everyone to get to know me on a personal basis. For those who don’t know what #ASKAWAYFriday is, you exchange a set of 10 questions for another blogger to answer. Below are 10 questions that Beth asked me and…

Fast food makes for some unhappy meals

Sometimes, a gal just wants a burger. Now, my husband makes a great burger - tasty and juicy and perfectly grilled. But, if he's not around (or it's crazy cold outside), I'll do some quick Mom math in my head:

(my craving level x number of days since I had fast food / servings of healthy food and exercise that week)…

Should We Eat This?

I cannot be the only...who has slaved away in the kitchen, with multiple pots on the stove top, the oven a'baking, and even the BBQ smoking away outside, to finally sit down at the dinner table, look at the food and think, "is this cooked enough?"

As a mother of a finicky eater, the persnickety Sonny Boy,  I threw…

Frito Pie With Rice Recipe

I love meals that are easy to fix so that I don’t have to spend hours in the kitchen.  One Sunday afternoon, we were trying to figure out what we wanted to eat for lunch on the way home from church.  My husband suggested that we…

Oh, How I Hate to Cook!

I have a confession to make.  Cooking is not one of my favorite things to do.  In fact, I really kind of hate it.  OK, maybe hate is a bit strong.  I mean, it’s not as bad as scrubbing the shower floor or putting clean sheets back on the beds (raise your hand if you hate dealing with fitted sheets).  But those…

Your Kid Can Be a Veggie Virtuoso - Balanced Nutrition for Kids

Mealtimes are as different across the country as, well, families.  Each family approaches mealtime in a way that works for their particular situation.  Some choose a buffet style option where family members fill their plates at the stovetop or counter and then sit down at the table.  Others choose a family style option where serving bowls or plates are passed around the table, each family member taking a portion of his or her choosing.  And then there are other families, typically with…

beet soup (otherwise known as borscht)

as a wife to a polish man, i’m quite familiar with this traditional eastern european staple.

it’s a soup made of beets. yes, you read correctly–beets. i remember the first time i was introduced to it. i thought it was strange yet very interesting. in my hispanic culture, beets are eaten on their own with a vinaigrette dressing or sometimes incorporated into potato salads. then i tasted this, and i instantly fell in love. my…

Weeknight Meal: Easy Baked Ziti

One of our favorite weeknight meals is Baked Ziti.  My husband spent two years in Italy. He claims to know Italian food and has given it his stamp of approval. I'll take that.

Baked Ziti is a grand departure from the pasta meals of my childhood.  I…

Christmas Cooking

My family has this HUGE Christmas Eve tradition.  We get together at my moms house for a Christmas glutton feast! That's the only time I get my mom's famous pot roast (a favorite).  The schedule's changed a bit over the years but it consists of church, family photos and tons and tons of food. This year was going to be a big one since all the babies were going to be there (sister's 2 boys, cousin's 2 girls, cousin's 1 boy, cousin's boy and girl).  We were the only ones not able to make…

Meal Time Success

Okay, I'm been MIA from my blog. I hope it isn't a case of outta site outta mind with those of you and are following me. I have an excuse though, really. My family has been living out of our suitcases for the past month while we were taking a road trip to our new home. It was a long road trip with stops at both of our families.
