My son has asked me (for what must be the thousandth time) when he will be old enough to have his own smartphone. I pause long enough for him to tell me a list of children in his second grade class who already have one. I tell him that he isn't old enough for one yet and that the circumstances in his life don't warrant him having one "in case of emergencies."…Continue

Since having kids, my car has taken on a life of it’s own. No matter how hard I try, it becomes a landfill in a matter of hours. Between school drop off and pickups, traveling to Cub Scouts and dance lessons, and of course, constant trips to the grocery story, pediatrician and pharmacy, we spend an average of two hours per day in the car.
My husband and I have a
long-standing argumentfriendly debate about how to keep a car clean. As in, he thinks we can and I think it’s…

For parents all over the world, one of the most important things for them is the well-being and safety of their children. At this age, it seems that the Internet is the main avenue in connecting almost every one of us. While it is a great privilege, many people, especially parents, are concerned about privacy. Youngsters are the most at risk from online temptations, child predators, and other various unsafe behaviors.
Today, practically every kid is using a mobile…Continue

I know that I am going to stalk my son on his mobile device.
It will not matter to me how responsible he is, or what agreement we will have around his device or how old he is. I will be stalking him.…
I was attempting to beat my Dad in our ongoing tournament of Words With Friends when my son inserted himself onto my lap and asked, "Are you looking at The Twitter? Can I see?"…Continue
Progress is inevitable. It is facts that today, most of us have phones with a greater capacity and capabilities than computers that sent the first man to the moon. Still, as in all things, it is not about what you have but how you use it that counts. Think of a typical teenage kid with a smartphone, it is true that that kid has an access to the internet, the most incredible data storage in the world, where he or she could find almost any information that they need, this is still probably not…Continue

Last week while my husband was traveling I took my son out on a date (which means he got to pick dinner and then we went out for dessert). As I was answering his questions over ice cream, he asked me about nitrogen (because that is what five-year-olds are into these days). I went into my purse to get out my phone to look up more information, but realized it wasn't there.…Continue
Ever wish you could change the color of your eyes to really make your peepers pop?? Oh wait…you can. Color contact lenses. Argh. No matter who the manufacturer is, the hues are still super-fake looking, even after so many years. Staring deep into someone’s really oddly opaque blue eyes is a slight bit disturbing. So I’ve heard. Or when they float around on your brown irises because let’s face it, it’s not a one size fits all product, and you look like an alien with one half-green eye and one…Continue

Safety is one of my biggest concerns when it comes to going walking, going to an unfamiliar place, or spending time outdoors with my family, especially this time of year when it gets dark outside earlier in the evenings. Having a cell phone is a great accessory but in the event of an emergency it is not always possible to dial 911 or reach…Continue

You might not have an idea of how many times the entire day you touch your expensive cell phone to talk. To call, to do a text, to check emails, to retrieve some important stuff and also to show off. Do you wash your hands every time when you pick for a new task? You might be giving “are you kidding me” stare, but let’s get serious. Do you wash your hands? The answer of this question is “NO”.
No matter how clean are your hands, there are minute dust/dirt and oiliness on your hands and…Continue

Aim. Snap. Learn. It’s just that easy for parents to get detailed information before buying a video game this holiday season. Granted, the (relatively!) new millennium has already brought with it a myriad of new terms being coined to keep up with the advent of social media & constant technological advances. Though the jury is still out on the efficacy of many of them, I’m throwing my hat in the ring & coining one of my own! Whether or not it ever makes it past the borders of Crazy Town is neither here nor there…frankly, without the …Continue
