3 Tips For Saving Money

1) Consignment sales. Selling and buying there. Check out Bargain Watcher to find consignment sales in your area. Also if you can tell your friends and family that you are selling stuff to bring in extra income you would be surprised at how much you will get, trust me. You can even turn yard sale-ing into an Ebay biz. I thoroughly enjoyed …

Life Labeled as a ‘Working Mom’

Hi, it’s me standing on my soap box. Yes… again.

Moms make difficult decisions every day: Should I buy the generic diapers on sale or should I splurge on name brand? Breast or bottle? Is my child crying because he really needs something or is he crying because he’s a little fussy? Despite the unsolicited advice and lectures I have endured regarding my…

I’m an Open Book

My name doesn’t describe who I am very well. Jennifer isn’t an adjective.

If names were meant to describe who we are, mine would be: Clumsy, Awkward, Forgetful

Or perhaps something powerful like this: MOM

It would be wrong to call myself clever. Clever implies an ability to problem solve. My attempts at problem solving never result in solutions. For example: I get a D on…

Ninja Mommy

My sister told me the other day they were going to put a bell around my neck...

Like a cat...

So they always know where I am.

I took great pride in this statement.

I started with the whole 'ninja' thing (it's in just about any profile of mine you can possibly find- Twitter, Top Mommy Blogs, Facebook, everything) a few years ago, and it started…

Tame the Beast.

manipulate - vb: to negotiate, control or influence (something or someone) cleverly, skillfully, or deviously.

My kids are masters at building manipulation tactics that work brilliantly when dealing with me. As many of you know, I have the man-boy, who is turning 18 in a few weeks, and the baby girl, who is a three-year-old toddler… Continue

Working Mom's Guide to Social Media

I talk about myself a lot. But then again, this is the place to do so. This is MY blog.

On Twitter I am known as DCWorkingMommy. Why? Because I am a mommy who works in Washington, D.C.  Clever, no?

I don’t talk about the specifics of what I do, however I share some of the drama that I sometimes encounter.

  • Driving in DC makes me CRAZY! Trying to avoid all social media until my chill pill kicks in.…

Dream a Little Dream of Bad Parenting

I’m aware of the fact that I dream every night, although I usually (and thankfully) forget the specifics. The subject matter has not improved with age. When I used to suffer nightmares about showing up at school naked, I now suffer nightmares about showing up at work naked. Must say, my post-breastfeeding boobs look pretty good. I still dream about running and not getting anywhere, falling out of the sky, and being trapped in a car underwater. This might be a cry for help, but mostly I think…

My Love Affair with Mr. Darcy

I remember that afternoon at the office water cooler. Two of my co-workers were discussing their summer reading lists. I jumped in to the conversation by admitting I couldn’t remember the last time I had read a book and I was curious if they had any recommendations.

When I was growing up, if I didn’t have a Barbie in my hand, I had a book. Yes, I was that kid. It started with an encyclopedia…

I’m Gonna Be a What: Accepting Motherhood

One of the absolute best moments of my entire life was the moment I saw my son for the first time. Of course it was! My entire life would never be the same.

But months before the birth of our son, an unexpected moment made me realize how my life was about to change.

I was 5 months pregnant before two tests confirmed our family would be growing. It wasn’t a dramatic I-Didn’t-Know-I-Was-Pregnant (on TLC) moment, just a surprise that I had a difficult time accepting. Babies…

The Toy-Which-Must-Not-Be-Named

My son doesn’t have a Jack-in-the-box. Excuse me while I pause and breathe a sigh of relief.

But what does alarm me are the toys that play music, light up, or have some other battery operated function… especially at 3 am.

If you’re a mom it’s not hard to imagine that 3 am wake-up call from your child. You hear a small sound coming from the baby monitor and hope it doesn’t become a bigger more upset sound. But the moans and groans become a cry and you accept your fate (if you…

What Makes You a Mommy Master?

I often get asked what the definition of a Mommy Master is.  The answer actually lies within oneself since everyone has a different definition of what make them a successful parent.  Let me start off by saying that no one is truly a Mommy Master every day of their life. Some days we succeed at motherhood and other days, not so much.  There are times when we feel on top of the world because our kids ate all their vegetables, listened, napped and said please and thank you without prodding. …

Would LOVE some feedback!

I'm realatively new to the blogging community and really want to connect to other moms. If you have time and have room for another friend, please add me to your blog roll! I love, like everybody else, comments and almost always leave them! It's what makes it all fun and worthwhile, to me.

So, please hop on over, let me know you were there and start a friendship!

I'm taking a little break to try to figure out what I'm doing, but here's one of my last recent posts.…

Take time fore yourself

It is so easy to get busy with life that many times we forget to take time for ourselves. Sometimes you reach the end of a week and wonder where did it all go? Or maybe you have come to the end of a weekend that was ment for relaxing only to find that you have been busy the entier time and are even more in need of a break than you were to start with.

There is no magical way to slow our days down, the only secret is to stop. Make yourself stop and rest. No one can do…

Make money with your mommy blog

I love blogging. I don't how I existed without it before. Its not only a hobby for me but a way to express myself in a way that I didn't before. I began blogging before I really knew I could make money with it. I mean I had heard you could but didn't really know how to do it or where to start. Most of the time you have the…

Go away Mummy

Have flown back into the asylum that is motherhood and after two days basking in the sunlight, that is leg movement free of a cruising infant, I am surprised at how ecstatic I am to be here.

I loved my time away, no I don’t think you understand I LOVED it. I had a bath, I had not one but multiple conversations that were not punctuated…

I've Cheated Myself By Not Commenting

When I started blogging 4 years ago I thought of my action of sharing family stories was solitary.  I enjoyed writing about the silly things my little ones did and that was that.  I was my own Erma Bombeck (if you're too young to know who I'm talking about Google her, she was fantastic).  Then, I started to receive comments from... strangers.  I was actually a little scared.  My reaction didn't really make much sense since I was…

The difference between 9 and 10

My daughter turned 9 last week. This is the child who lives and breathes all things pink and all things Barbie.

As I decorated the house for her upcoming birthday party, she came up to me and announced that she had something very important to tell me. I stopped taping pink and purple balloons to the fireplace and sat down to listen to her. I looked into the serious brown eyes of my daughter as she announced that this would be her last single digit birthday. Single digit? Who…

Mommies, Purses, Tiaras, and Gettin' Sexy!

I’ve been noticing a very interesting trend on my site recently. It’s becoming really clear what moms are interested in ... and I’m so intrigued by it, that I wanted to share it with you!

I write a blog called the Mommy MindSpa and I post each day with different suggestions of fun things moms can do to help them focus on themselves. I call it the Daily Mom-ME Moment ... and in it I encourage moms to take time each day to do something for themselves - to always remember that they are…
