My son will be turning 7-years old in December. I am guilty of looking at him sometimes and only seeing my precious little toddler who needs his mother to hold his hand in everything he does. I cringe when he swings too high on the swing set, for fear of him falling. My heart beats a bit faster when he charges across the Monkey Bars, what if he misses a step? What if he scrapes his knee? What if he bumps his head?…Continue

Mommy-hood sprung on you like flowers in the springtime, after the stork dropped a bundle of joy at your door and forgot to leave the dad. Devastating, but not the end of the world.
Here’s what you should know: Being single is not a disease. Being a single mom is not a handicap. To find yourself solely responsible for the health and well-being of a child can be…Continue

Sorry for my absence, but I've been buried in tiny diapers, toddler tantrums, and baby snuggles for the last week. Our little guy arrived last Tuesday morning at 9:31am and life has been whizzing by ever since!
This is Bowen James and he is 7lbs 1oz, and 20 1/2 inches long. I don't want to say he is the perfect baby, because I know it will bite me in the butt later, but he kind of is. He's the sleepiest, hungriest, cuddliest little babe and he is the perfect addition…Continue

I decided to start a new series. Lets call it...sexy mama!! This series will be all about ways/tips/ideas to feel like your own person again. When we become mommy's we tend to forget about ourselves; but also as mommys, we put our babies and families before ourselves - so what about ways to feel like us again that don't take a lot of time? I think it…Continue

My son has been deemed, “all boy” by numerous good-natured Southern women here in Nashville. I’m not naive; I realize this is a nice way to say, “Your two-year old son is borderline out of control. Have you considered Adderall?”. Despite my hesitation to accept his “all boy” title, I am slowly coming to grips with my lot in motherhood. It’s true, I did not win the “good baby” or “sweet toddler” lottery, in fact, I didn’t even have one matching number.
This past weekend he…Continue

That’s life right? We’re not always recognized for our hard work, determination and perseverance. Nonetheless, I let my boys know that they have to work harder, stand out brighter, and demonstrate
consistency. Because you know what? It’s not enough to be smart or
astute in one or multiple subjects…no, that’s not…

This week is a special week. Both of my boys are “graduating”, and while I’ve discussed the perverse nature of graduating from everything and anything now-a-days, I am,
nonetheless, very proud of my boys and can’t help but to allow myself
& get caught up in all the hoopla.…

Ok, so not for nothing, but my guys rarely ever get in trouble. It really is very rare that my boys are punished/grounded. They’re pretty well behaved for the most part, and when they do screw up, we deal with
the situations in a more “diplomatic” way.

They didn’t have that shit when I was in middle school! But hey, times are a changin’ right?
It’s just another way to get us parents to spend more money and compete with each other to see who buys the best, most expensive dress/tux, etc, etc. I mean the whole idea was that senior prom…Continue
