Dear Parents I Used to Nanny For,
Twenty years, twenty pounds, and a marriage and two kids ago, I was your nanny. And I judged you. My parenting standards were based on unrealistic expectations. I knew nothing of the shit storm that is parenting. While I made bewildered mental notes about the state of your home, the behavior of your children, and your fashion choices, you were keeping actual human beings alive. I apologize.
I have seen the light. And so has Anna Lane, who… Continue

"I need money for the book fair!"
These are all questions that I have heard from Tween Girl as we walk out of the door during an already rushed morning.
With a little bit of preparation and patience (lots of patience), you can get out of the… Continue

Before we get to laundry hacks…
You’ve heard the expression “going postal?”* It means suddenly erupting into an unprovoked fit of rage. A long-time postal worker friend once told me that the reason “going postal” was an occupational hazard was that the mail never ends. You’re never completed the task. It just keeps coming.
Kind of like the laundry. Why is it that the mom of the house typically becomes the CEO of laundry? As if growing humans inside of our bodies, birthing them,… Continue

Mom Tantrums. Yeah, it’s a thing. In the battlefield of parenthood, do you ever look around and think, “Who made ME the adult around here?” I wanted to lose it just about every day this week. But for the most part, I reigned it in. On several occasions, I had elaborate fantasies of how I’d like to lose it and what I’d do.
On our next episode of MomCave LIVE,… Continue

When my first child was just a baby three years ago I was at a loss at how to start giving baby foods. What do you start with? Jars or homemade? How often and how much should I give? This topic is not something that is thoroughly discussed often in doctor’s offices and I found it difficult to find answers when looking online. My doctor just suggested that I could start rice cereals at around four months and start introducing other puree’s slowly from there. So that is exactly what I did. At… Continue

My son is a product of preschool. My husband and I both work and our parents are either too far away or they also work and were not able to watch him for us. So, off to school he went. It was crazy expensive, but the costs of him going outweighed the cost of me quitting my job. And, thankfully, he loved it. In preschool he learned most of what his teacher is covering now in Kindergarten.… Continue

I saw someone post this last night and just fell in love.

If you’re anything like me, you probably fantasized for much of your life about having a little mini me one day.
Yes, there’d be a partner in the equation, but their genes wouldn’t matter much. Or something like that.
