Something's Gotta Give

funny-dirty-laundry

As a parent, we're often so used to running on autopilot that we rarely ever even stop to think about why we're doing something.  We just continue to do it mindlessly, day after day after day.  Take, for instance, the gazillion and one loads of never-ending laundry and the gazillion and one loads of multiplying…

Sink to a New Low

I cannot be the only one...whose child's behavior, or lack thereof, has an uncanny ability to make you lower yourself to a level of response that you are ashamed of later (or in my case, immediately).  A child can bring out your childlike happy go-lucky side or a petty not-so-nice side that has been hibernating within your psyche since junior high school.

I have adapted to my surroundings as a Mama, my aptness at tuning out whining or just general six year old blabbering could…

Things I've Learned This Week

** If I held my breath for a big Valentine's Day surprise, I'd surely end up dead.

Google Is My Copilot

Remember that show, "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?"  Well, it turns out, I'm apparently not.  You see, I happen to live with two of them, and I'm reminded of that fact nearly every friggin' night when I try to help them with their homework -- I swear we never learned ANY of this stuff until high…

Forcing the Valentine's Day Love

I cannot be the only one…who lives in a house ran by boys and who knows that, even with their brawny efforts, making Valentine’s Day anything other than a run-of-the-mill Friday will be up to me, and this includes the Sonny Boy’s valentine exchange at school.

I started asking the very indecisive Sonny Boy what type of valentine he would like…

Thankful Thursday: Growing Independence

I cannot be the only one…who has noticed their child has started to show signs of real independence; whether buttoning up their own shirt or washing their own hair in the tub, the small things that can be done without Mama, are being done without her.

This realization came to me the other day as I was attempting to complete a set of sit-ups (attempting is the key word there) while the Sonny Boy was scrubbing away in the shower unassisted. …

Paycheck? For Now, Hugs Will do.

Moms, we know the value of our role within our families.  Although some days I find myself drifting to sleep feeling guilty about my growing disdain for housework, about losing my patience with the kids, about not being very proficient in the kitchen. Children, especially little ones don’t really have any idea about what moms do all day. And, for the most part they probably don’t really care.  Which is okay.  They are little.  Moms are sort of like magic elves that work out of…

Busted by a Five Year Old

I cannot be the only one…who has told their child something in the safe confines of their home, to only hear that comment repeated back to them by another child at the elementary school playground, leaving you wondering what else your child blabbers about while not in your care.

One of Sonny Boy’s little…

Mash-Up: Fictional Career Women on TV

Some of my favorite television shows are those set in the workplace.  I love getting a sneak peek into worlds I haven’t experienced. And, since I haven’t worked regularly in an office for many years, I’m fascinated by the dynamics between the characters.  Now, I know this is fiction. A lawyer or editor on a TV show is going to be exaggerated, dramatized, too snarky or silly or just plain scary (like Glenn Close’s character on Damage). We are looking for entertainment…

Thankful Thursday: He Actually Ate a Meal

I cannot be the only one…who has spent the last several years of their lives in a perpetual state of begging their child to eat.  Not just the typical, “Eat your vegetables,” but a pleading to eat something, anything, even the one part of the meal that you were sure your child would eat (like grapes or French fries).  This has been a running theme in our house since the day the Sonny Boy was born (literally, read…

Suck It, Mother Nature

wire hangers

I'd always thought that Mother Nature and I kind of had a connection -- you know with the whole "mother" thing and all.  But I'm really starting to think that she's falsely assumed her title because no mama in her right mind would make it so damn cold outside that kids are off school and trapped indoors for days on…

Liar Liar or Dreamy Dreamer?

I cannot be the only one…who attempts to find the balance between my child becoming a world-class liar and not stifling his imagination when he is sharing his latest exaggerated tale.  Don’t misunderstand me, I have very little patience for the, “I didn’t do that,” type of fibs when I clearly saw Sonny Boy squeeze toothpaste all over the bathroom counter, I am speaking more of the, “John’s dad came to school juggling chainsaws, he dropped one on his foot and cut off his…

This chick hates moms and isn't shy about it.

No not me. This chick, Amy Glass.

This article popped up on my newsfeed this morning and as Luke was tossing his bananas and cereal onto the dogs back I thought, what a lovely morning read, lets see what she has to say...

One paragraph in and I was both giggling to myself at the stupidity of it all and just letting her words fuel my hate fire for her…
