It's hard for me to look at my son now and imagine the swirling mass of hormones that he will become one day. It is equally hard for me to think about the time that he will not need me around anymore (but still want me there, like a plant). But, those days are coming, whether I like it or not. So, I guess that it is good for me to…Continue

Is Tea a Remedy For Menopause?
Before hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was available for treatment of the different menopause symptoms, people only used herbs like teas. There are different teas that can address specific or all symptoms of menopause. There is an…

Ever wish you could change the color of your eyes to really make your peepers pop?? Oh wait…you can. Color contact lenses. Argh. No matter who the manufacturer is, the hues are still super-fake looking, even after so many years. Staring deep into someone’s really oddly opaque blue eyes is a slight bit disturbing. So I’ve heard. Or when they float around on your brown irises because let’s face it, it’s not a one size fits all product, and you look like an alien with one half-green eye and one…Continue

Were you too busy on Super Bowl Sunday watching the commercials to notice that groundhog Punxsutawney Phil had emerged from his burrow? He saw his shadow and went back in to hibernate predicting that the blistery winter weather much of the country has been experiencing will last for another six weeks.
For many of us, winter weather does seem to drag on longer than we'd like. And being stuck at home in February and…

** I really need to fertilize my money tree cause damn, life is expensive right now.
** My kids purposely slow down to a turtle-like pace whenever I tell them to hurry up.
** When people say, "It can't get worse than this", it almost ALWAYS does.
** Listening to crap drip out of your kitchen ceiling is not a…Continue

My family was in for a major shock when we moved away from 16 years of living in the sunny Southwest to the Midwest with its grey winters. People were warning us that winters would be hard. Yeah, right. I was born in Montreal, I remember winters. Pfffft.
As we were visiting Chicago area homes in planning for our move, we scoffed at the particular homeowners that featured a closet with a standing tanning booth in it. “You’ll need this in the winter” they said. Yeah, right.…Continue

Does yellow make you feel like a banana? Is red just like lava? And does purple make you feel like an onion? If so, then you, too, will succeed as an Art Mom in my child's classroom.
Being an Art Mom is simple: You prepare a little program that teaches the kids about artists or color or a style of art, and then develop a little project to go with it. It's a lot of fun - second graders are a very appreciative audience.
I decided to talk about color and moods - you know, how does…Continue

I enjoyed creating my first mood board that I decided to make another nursery mood board just for fun. This time, I used bright and bold colors... yes, and a bit girly... for a little girl's nursery.
Color palette: hints of pink, red,…

Do you ever feel, that as the centrifugal force of the house, that mommy’s mood sets the tone for the the whole family? This Blog post came to me a couple of weeks ago, when my girlfriend said, “Can you Blog
about how when we are not good, the rest of our family never feels good?
And how we can pull ourselves out of these slumps?”
So really, what happens if mom’s not happy?…Continue

I feel as if I’m losing control. My moods are unpredictable. Mostly I’m in a decent mood, even happy. But sometimes, for no good reason, I get irritated. This is not a new experience; I’ve been getting these mood swings since approx jan 08. Through my multiple misdiagnoses I’ve learned it could be caused by many things. But the reality is that regardless of what’s causing it, I feel like sometimes I’ve…Continue

.....sometimes I don't recognise the 'alien' who has taken over my son JK’s body & walks out of his room in the mornings! One minute he was a charming, sweet, communicative, HELPFUL little boy, who worshipped & adored his mommy (sigh) & then one day....well, one day, I think aliens descended, abducted him, gave him a brain & hormone implant & sent ‘something’ back to me!
