Just five more minutes, Mom

As mentioned before, when it comes to mornings, I am awake and ready to go. This ability served me well in middle school and high school when I was responsible for getting myself awake, dressed and to school (via the bus or my own two feet) on time. I set my own alarm and I…

Waking up with bears

It is 6:10 am. Bear number one's alarm goes off. He ignores it and rolls over. About 10 minutes later, I attempt to wake bear number two. He asks me to go away and come back in five minutes.

I'm surrounded by bears.…

Things I've Learned This Week

** Family trips are flat-out EXHAUSTING.

** It takes 11 years to unpack 11 days worth of luggage.

Summer vacation isn't just for kids - parents love it, too!

My eyes flew open at 7 a.m. today, and I could feel the panic rising even before I sat up in bed. Okay, okay, I told myself. So we missed the bus. Not the end of the world. I'd get everyone up and going, fix a quick breakfast and ...

Oh, wait. No. I wasn't late, hadn't overslept. I hadn't missed the bus because the bus wasn't coming.

It was the first day of summer vacation. Finally! I sat back with a sigh of relief. But…

Things I've Learned This Week

** It's really difficult to do pushups when the dog's trying to hump you.

** Mornings around here are nuttier than a jar of Jif.

** If my house could talk, I'm pretty sure it would say, "Oink!"

** Little boys' fingernails are dirtier than the floor of an Irish pub on St. Patrick's Day.

** Allergy shot are not a very…

Crack Fairy, Be Gone!!!

Seriously, who put my address on the Crack Fairy's first morning stopping list?

(As a disclaimer before I continue on with this post, my kids are not, nor have they ever been on any type of narcotic or illegal drug. The term 'crack' is used for humorous purposes only, to fully illustrate how my morning went. So put down the phone call to child services and sit back and enjoy this candid post.)

I was woken up this morning, 30 minutes before my alarm clock,…

How To Raise A Happy Kid...Idea #493

Sometimes kids are grumpy in the morning, hell, who isn’t. Why? Well, they don’t want to wake up and start working, who does? Burrowing under the warm covers like a mole hiding from the blazing sunlight seems like a much better.

But here’s something that generally makes Sandor, who is a pretty typical eight year old, feel a little better in the mornings. We don’t talk about school, we talk about the…

If The Sun's Not Up, Why Should I Be?

I'm just going to go ahead and state something now: I am not a morning person. Anyone who knows me, or has lived with me, can attest to that. Hell, you know it's bad when one morning I turned my phone on (I keep it off at night so my Facebook SMS messaging doesn't wake me up when my east coast friends start updating their statuses at 4am my time), and had a text message from one of my best friends 2000 miles away that says, 'I need to run something by you, get your opinion on it, but… Continue

What Ever Happened to the Alarm Clock?

Weekday mornings in December are difficult. There is a lot going on with the holidays; band concerts, choral concerts, basketball practice, days full of shopping. All of this…

Typical Morning

My morning started out in the same fashion. I open my eyes to two little people demanding everything under the sun. My bladder is about to bust and I shew the kids away before I really regret getting out of bed. Thank GOD I made it in the bathroom! I shut the door behind me as it pushes the kids on the other side who are trying to get in with me. The door slams and the kids have their cue to cry and whine. I turn my mom ears off to the noise and wonder if I have any coffee made.

A… Continue
