Ten Steps to Finding the Perfect Nanny: Part 1

Finding a nanny is a little like finding a husband. It's all about chemistry and you have to be patient and willing to wait for the right person to come along. It's also one of the most nerve-wracking things you will do as a parent. Many of you contacted me to say how helpful my post on the …

My Rant about Nap Time

My little monster never (rarely) takes a nap for me.  She loves her mommy so much that she doesn’t want to close her eyes at all when I am around.  Nevermind the fact that I enjoy quiet time and I can accomplish a lot more when she is down for nap.  No, she parties hard when mommy’s around.

This semester, for the first time ever, I am taking day classes because I have to (budget cuts, lack of classes, last semester for B.A., etc.).  So I go to school at 1:00.  Guess what my little one…

Bridging The Distance With An Au Pair Candidate During The Phone Interview

A face-to-face meeting between the new host family and the au pair candidates is usually not possible, because an au pair will come directly from his/ her home country on a J-1 visa to live with the host family. However, there is the possibility of interacting through a live Skype conversation including a webcam, via e-mail and most importantly by phone.

The phone interview is a key portion of the selection process for an au pair. In addition to some questions suggested…

How to look for a reliable or trusty babysitter

I was having a hard time concentrating on my work because my son has become extremely active and only sleeps 1 hour during naptime. I was thinking of getting a babysitter and my friend suggested that I should try Sitter City because that's where she found her son's babysitter and she's been raving about her. So I signed-up and found someone based on her ratings and I've been using her since. My son totally loves her.… Continue

MUST READ - Practice Family Cyber Safety

A Cyber Terror Story

Kate has a very disturbing story about a cyber predator that took over her computer. She states in her post:

"He has fixated on me as the enemy, as someone who disseminates information he considers harmful. It's partly because I'm a mom, and for him that is not a comfort..."

She continues, "But what do I do now? As long as the threat was virtual, I felt safe. But now [he] knows my business address, my banking institutions and, most worrisome, my… Continue
