An Open Letter to All Expecting Mothers

At a baby shower I attended today, there was a little card on my plate that read, in squiggly, pink script, “Your Advice to the Mother-To-Be”.

You’d think that as a new mom and blogger on everything pregnancy and motherhood-related, I’d have mounds of advice to give… right? But I…

Parenting Standards… Lowered. | Anna Lane on MomCave LIVE

Dear Parents I Used to Nanny For,

Twenty years, twenty pounds, and a marriage and two kids ago, I was your nanny. And I judged you. My parenting standards were based on unrealistic expectations. I knew nothing of the shit storm that is parenting. While I made bewildered mental notes about the state of your home, the behavior of your children, and your fashion choices, you were keeping actual human beings alive. I apologize.

I have seen the light. And so has Anna Lane, who…

Finding the words to welcome this new year has not come easily. I am not sure I was ready for twenty sixteen. Twenty fifteen sort of sailed by. We had a busy end of the year from October events, to Thanksgiving and my high school reunion, to cookie baking weekends and Christmas celebrations. It was a whirlwind and I just never felt caught up.…

He's Here! He's Here!

Sorry for my absence, but I've been buried in tiny diapers, toddler tantrums, and baby snuggles for the last week. Our little guy arrived last Tuesday morning at 9:31am and life has been whizzing by ever since!

This is Bowen James and he is 7lbs 1oz, and 20 1/2 inches long. I don't want to say he is the perfect baby, because I know it will bite me in the butt later, but he kind of is. He's the sleepiest, hungriest, cuddliest little babe and he is the perfect addition…

Four (4) Ways to Begin a Great Day - "E" is for Eat and Exercise

To eat and exercise right will benefit the rest of your day. Mornings begin by turning a light on. And what I do for the rest of the day can keep the light on or burn it out. Giving my morning a generous head start keeps my energy and attitude more positive for the rest of the day. I’m a morning person, but a LATE-morning person. I don’t do wondrous things first thing.

After I wake up, I make a sleepy, quiet trek across the house to the kitchen to start breakfast. I stay in my sleepy…

The next generation of parents

My husband once shared an interesting observation about our generation's way of parenting. He said that we tend to make changes for our children based off what we didn't like about our own childhoods:…

Wrap that baby up in a box

The biggest shock after having our son is that after four days the hospital was letting us take him home.

Despite the baby prep classes and recovery time from my C-section and the video the nurses insisted that we watched, it seemed really soon. As in: We don't know what we are doing yet - are you sure you…

Procrastination: I Put Off What Wasn't Important To the time!

Happy 2016!!! Did you make a New Year's Resolution? I didn't.

I don't make New Year's resolutions...anymore. No deep-rooted reasons why, other than I have a track record of not sticking to them. For years, I have wanted to lose weight. An example of my New Year's resolution then would be to lose 25 pounds by my 25th birthday, or by an…

2016: a chance to move forward

***Feel free to check out the original post at

I used to abstain from making new year’s resolution. It always felt as though I was setting myself up for failure- starting out with the best intentions, and then succumbing a few months later (in some sorry cases, weeks) to my old ways. Besides, if a person needs to make a change in their life or set… Continue

What I've Learned About Breastfeeding

Little B is almost 3 months old. That means every single day, multiple times a day, I've put her at my breast to feed and nourish her. After the first few goes at it, you tend to get to know the ropes and it becomes second nature. Here are six things that I've learned from my very short time breastfeeding.

It can hurt

But then it gets better! For the first 6 weeks or so, every single latch made me wince in pain.…

Let Me Introduce Myself

Whenever you visit a blog to check up the content it offers you may sometimes wonder who exactly is behind the blog posts that you are reading, if you aren't already aware.  Since I am new to the blogging world and new to Mom Bloggers Club I thought the most appropriate way to "get my foot in the door" is to start with an introduction blog post.  If you're not really curious about my boring not so traditional life then there are no hard feelings if you decide to skip over this initial blog…

Black Friday – it’s Not Just About Fashion

Fashion, eh? It comes and goes, then comes back around again, at once fleeting and eternal. A style is in one month and then is never heard of again – until it is heard of again, of course.

The quest for fashionable clothes never ends; it’s just that what is in vogue is always changing.…
