Before I had my son, all my friends told me that I wouldn't sleep again for a long time. And I believed them. But that didn't mean that I was ready to experience the deep level of tiredness I did those first weeks of my son's life.…Continue

A lot of blog posts make it seem as though being a mother is easy. When it comes to basic essentials, they'll say typical things like "packing a lunch the night before" or "having a strong cup of coffee". But as a mother, you need much, much more than that.…Continue

I do not breastfeed my baby. That's my dirty mommy secret. Most women feel the need to reveal why they formula feed when in fact, they do not owe anybody an explanation. I should just end this post with "I do not breastfeed, bye!" but I would like to further drive home the point to not judge a mother until you've walked a mile in her shoes.

At a baby shower I attended today, there was a little card on my plate that read, in squiggly, pink script, “Your Advice to the Mother-To-Be”.
You’d think that as a new mom and blogger on everything pregnancy and motherhood-related, I’d have mounds of advice to give… right? But I…Continue

I am a back sleeper. I try not to be, because I am more likely to snore when I sleep on my back (sorry, honey!). So, I try to sleep on my side, but I know that at some point during the night, I will roll over to my back.…Continue

Little Bear is 3 months old. It’s funny how difficult it is to remember a time without her.
Though she hasn’t been with us for very long so far it feels like a lifetime, in a good way. I mean, clearly, if I think about it I can remember before her and…

Once you’ve had your first child, the second baby conversation starts to happen… often.
You think about timing, age difference, and things like “is our home big enough?” or “can we really handle two kids?”
But let’s be honest: now that the hard part is over, you just wonder how in the world you can go through the first six months all over again (lack of sleep and raw nipples especially), but, at the same time, you don’t think it’s humanly…Continue

I knew I shouldn’t have gotten used to the great night sleep, perfect, clockwork naps, and how amazing you were doing with independent play the past few months… I knew that.
But I did… I sort of took it all for granted. That’s how well you were doing!
Until, of course, that nasty molar popped in a few months early.
This week has been rough on Mommy, you know. Between your ravenous appetite (most days you almost eat…Continue

We were out in New York City with friends when we decided we were ready.A packed bar downtown, the kind of place you forget. We’d both had way too many nights like this one: too many watered down vodka sodas, nights spent shoving through the crowd, competing for the bartender’s attention.
This wasn’t the scene for us anymore, it was easy to see.
I don’t remember…Continue
My little man is four months old already. How the heck is that possible? I swear last month was February. We can't possibly be nearing the end of June right now, can we?! I've learned a lot the last four months about my little guy. He is quite a bit fussier than his big sister. He does NOT like his carseat. He's not crazy about the swing. He is chubby and pudgy in all the right places. He loves to be held...all the time. I call him my little hot tamale because he puts off…Continue

Sorry for my absence, but I've been buried in tiny diapers, toddler tantrums, and baby snuggles for the last week. Our little guy arrived last Tuesday morning at 9:31am and life has been whizzing by ever since!
This is Bowen James and he is 7lbs 1oz, and 20 1/2 inches long. I don't want to say he is the perfect baby, because I know it will bite me in the butt later, but he kind of is. He's the sleepiest, hungriest, cuddliest little babe and he is the perfect addition…Continue

Baby day is getting closer and closer. We are only a couple of weeks away and he pretty much could make his entrance into the world anytime now. My hospital bag is packed, baby's bag is packed, and now I'm turning my attention to my diaper bag. I'm so used to packing for a two-year old, I have to retrain my brain for packing for a newborn....they need so much stuff! I'm…

Since I'm about to have this baby, and I'm not really able to do many projects, I thought I'd do a little post of my favorite baby things that we really, really used the first time around and that we plan to use again with baby number two. There is so much baby stuff out there these days, and we found some of it unnecessary. I'm focusing this list on mainly newborn baby needs. It's funny to see all the lists of what you need for baby on different sites, because every baby is so…Continue

The biggest shock after having our son is that after four days the hospital was letting us take him home.
Despite the baby prep classes and recovery time from my C-section and the video the nurses insisted that we watched, it seemed really soon. As in: We don't know what we are doing yet - are you sure you…

Newborn milestones are exciting! Seeing the new baby grow, learn new things, and experience the world. However, for this mama, they are also sad. Sienna is our 3rd baby. She will also be our last. So with every new milestone, I am reminded that it is also the last.
Today I began the sad process of cleaning out our newborn clothes. Sienna is now 4-months old. Only recently did she…Continue

It's 3 AM (or any other time in the middle of the night). The baby starts crying. She is awake for a bottle. I lay there for just a second to let my body get used to the idea that I'm about to wake up and climb out of a comfy bed. Ugh!
The baby is still in our room so I don't have to go far. She cries a little bit as I change her diaper and get her bottle ready. I usually sit on our bed…Continue
Okay so you've carried a growing human in your belly for 9 months and gave birth to the most beautiful purple baby you've ever laid your eyes on. The fear of labor is gone, the fear of ripping your vag, among other things, is gone too.…
