My husband and I are pretty good about clearing away clutter. A decade of moving together and making ourselves purge before every one made us good about living simply. When we bought a house, we promised each other that we would still purge often. And in the time since then, we have moved bags of no-longer-useful-to-us stuff out of the house. We hope that our son learns to purge early and often.…Continue

Since having kids, my car has taken on a life of it’s own. No matter how hard I try, it becomes a landfill in a matter of hours. Between school drop off and pickups, traveling to Cub Scouts and dance lessons, and of course, constant trips to the grocery story, pediatrician and pharmacy, we spend an average of two hours per day in the car.
My husband and I have a
long-standing argumentfriendly debate about how to keep a car clean. As in, he thinks we can and I think it’s…

What kinds of things should you put in a changing table for your little one? And what’s the best way to organize all of it so that you can easily find stuff when you need it?
As a new mom, I had NO. CLUE. Well, at least at first. But after a bit of trial and error, I’ve come up with a…Continue

It doesn’t matter how big your house is – pretty much everyone thinks they could use a bit more space. Everyone you know talks about how they need to have a major clear out ‘soon’. And everyone gets exasperated at least once a day when tripping over something that should have been tidied away… if only there was room.…Continue

Thanksgiving is over, the tree is up and twinkling with lights, your stockings are hung, and you have visions of a peaceful, relaxing holiday with your family. Singing Christmas carols, baking cookies, curling up under a warm blanket and drinking a hot cup of cocoa, maybe going on a sleigh ride or attending a…Continue

From full-time nursing school (RN) with part-time work just to graduate to full-time work with part-time BSN program, getting and keeping the house in order can be the least of one’s priorities. Laundry builds up until there’s clean laundry piled on the front loaders, the baskets are full with dirty laundry, and the socks go unmatched. However, I…Continue

Monday morning, my Facebook feed was filled with proud parents as their children started their first day of school. By 2pm, those enthusiastic statuses looked a little uglier, grimmer, and much more stress filled. A new school year involves lots of moving parts, but what are some of the ways you and your family can make back-to-school an organized…Continue

Getting started is one of the toughest parts of getting organized. I want to give you a few tips and techniques that will help you with this process. I suggest that you ruminate over this part of the process for a little while before you start ripping open the closet doors and tossing things onto the bed. Stop and think about WHY you want to get organized. The answer isn’t that you want a clean closet or a great looking entry way. The answer lies a bit deeper. Do you want to get out of the…Continue

I recently had a discussion with some of my family about the boundaries I set for myself in terms of what I keep. I have one bookshelf in my living area and it is divided up into sections; organizing books, business books, social media books, travel books, hiking guides, and of course, fiction books to keep and some are in a “to read” section.
I’ve been reading a lot and while I borrow a lot of books from the library, it means that my book shelf recently runneth over. Instead of…Continue
