Back Saving Tips for Lifting in and out of the Crib

When starting my research for this week's topic, I came across this BRILLIANT advice from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons posted under "Preventing Back Pain: Tips for New Moms" and I quote:

  • Try to return to your normal weight within six weeks after giving birth.

Raise your hand if this did not magically happen for you.  I have both…

Men....such babies some times!

Why R Men Such Babies?!!

It’s Kindergarten time and we and when I say “we” I say that loosely as I rather mean “I” as Mom! Mom has had to deal with; lice, cold, flu, fevers, pink eye, growing pains, nightmares, teething, etc.

My husband works during the day so, I get it, I…

It's Not Your Mama's Fault Part 2

Okay, so where were we? Oh, that's right...I left off right at the point where I was officially 'emancipated' at the age of 16. Whew. Heavy. Just sitting here recalling and writing this stuff takes me back. My teenage life had been a whirlwind of changes; from living in a house with 9 bedrooms and six bathrooms with a…

Is It Hot In Here Or Is It Just Me?

Know the great thing about getting older?  No?  Well, me neither!  There's certainly not a whole lot that I find entertaining about the wrinkles, the aches and pains, the eye baggage, the gray hairs, the sleeplessness, and worst of all, the damn hot flashes!  Seriously, is this the kind of thanks we get for shooting the future of America out of our uterus way back…

Fish Oild Versus Flax Seed

Fish Oil Versus Flax Seed Oil The health benefits of incorporating Omega-3 fatty acids into our diet is nothing new.  We have learned from other cultures that these fats are healthy.  Some of these cultures such as the Inuit in Greenland eat as much as 40% of their diets in fat.  However, these people have low rates of diabetes, heart disease and degenerative joint disease. The reason for this is their fatty diets are…

BOOKS TO READ WHEN YOU'RE HURTING. AND AN OFFER.

I have a hearty library of "pain" books in my home office. On some, the pages are worn, some words are scratched over & straight up, some pages are stiff from dried-up tears. I wanted to share some books that have been powerfully helpful...

  1. Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer…

HOW TO SAVE A CACTUS...AND A LIFE

I walked outside & saw this very misplaced cactus. Why was there a cactus randomly sticking out of our landscaping? I started with 2 obvious culprits...my kids. DJ immediately owned it. He said that when he was riding his bike, he saw that someone on our street had thrown away their cactus. So he picked it up & carried it… Continue

My Nursing story is at and End

http://nugglemamashandful.blogspot.com/2010/03/my-nursing-story.html

I no longer have a nursling. I was very lucky to be able to continue nursing my youngest as long as I did, just over 2 years. YAY. I do have mixed feelings about it though. Nursing definitely wasn't something that came easy and I haven't always wanted to nurse my babies.

With my first our nursing relationship was a…

For My Brother

Hey Bro,

I am hurting for what you are going through right now. It begs the universal question of, "why do bad things happen to good

people?" I am sorry for the pain that runs deep and the future that is

unknown. But I am writing to let you know that…

Proud to be a Mummy - or is that infantile?

I read this post today from Bored Mommy who is anything but boring. Someone left a bizarre comment about how being a Mommy (or Mummy) rather than a Parent, is somehow undignified and infantile. It's incredible, really.

I am Mummy, okay…

Foot Pain

My son Aiden has inherited his father's high arches and his poor feet get so sore! We have had a terrible time finding him shoes to help ease the foot pain.

I have done some research online about foot pain in children and found some helpful articles. We will probably need to invest in some custom… Continue

They don't tell you this when you are expecting...

Or is it just me they didn't tell?

Having kids physically hurt! I hear you laughing. I am not talking about the burning stinging pain of giving birth, I am talking about what follows after the birth.

Jeez, since having 2 children I haven't had a pain free day:

- My feet request that I wear shoes or slippers (with hard soles) at all times when walking around the house. They are fed up of the excruciating pain caused by all these tiny toys parts scattered around… Continue

Don't Say That!

I just wrote an article letting out my irritation and hurt feelings of when someone *tisk, tisk* you when you open up and share your pain. You put yourself in a venerable position and choose to share your life and hurt and all you get is, ‘well, my life is worse than yours so don’t talk’

That may not have been the commenter’s intention but that is how it came across to me. And it hurt. I think it is a really good article if I do say so myself ;) I would hope you all would take a… Continue

I Hate Organizing: I Know How You Feel!

I'm sitting at Starbucks enjoying my favorite drink, a caramel machiatto. This is great...it's my REWARD because earlier I was at my bookkeeper's office and that was not fun for me! I made an appointment with her so that I'd have to show up, with paperwork in hand, and go through it. We did that, then make a list of what I still needed to to give her, so I can go home and follow instructions and get it done.

Accounting to me is like organizing is for many. Just the thought of it… Continue
