MY KINDA CRAPPY DAY

I started today too early, arising at 4:57am & it seemed to go downhill from there. Lost my patience with myself, lost my cool with my kids, screwed up a new crock-pot dinner, yada, yada, yada.  So what is the success-formula for starting your day off wrong?  'Cause we don't get do-over's. And then we try to make-up to those we afflicted with pithy statements like, "I'm sorry I'm just having a bad day" Puh-lease!  I'm wracking my brain wondering what…

WHEN YOU LOSE A CHILD

It is every parent's nightmare. Except this time, it wasn't mine, it was my 5 yr old's. His brother & I were in the children's corner at Barnes & Noble, doing homework. Per Andy's request, I let him stay in the toy section, adjacent to us. He knew where we were, we knew where he was.… Continue

TO TERMINATE. OR NOT. A FAITH-TEST.

In 2004, I went to my OB. They drew blood & confirmed I was pregnant. When my OB came to my room, we discussed the complications I had with my first pregnancy. A few bouts of pneumonia had caused fetal complications, causing DJ to be born at 29 weeks. After considering this, my OB looked at me & said, "You're high risk. Your pneumonia's haven't been diagnosed, treated, or cured. You can te… Continue

WERE YOU BULLIED? OR WERE YOU THE BULLY?

If there's one thing that can cause inst-o-matic tears for me it's learning that someone is being bullied. It's an experience that is difficult to forget. I remember getting on the bus & my bully had told everyone to move to the edge of their seats, forcing me to have to stand up. Another time, my bully got all… Continue

HAPPY WAS ALL OVER!

This is my 5 yr old, Andy & his 3 yr old cousin, Amber. Without any pre-posing or instruction, I told them to just give me happy faces. What surprised me was how much "happy" they got into their expressions! Their eyes & mouths beam "happy." They even got "happy" to travel to their arms &… Continue

DOES YOUR CHILD EVER DO SOMETHING TO MAKE YOU CRY?

The other day we were at the pool when my boys asked a little British boy to build sand castles with them. They weren't too long into castle building,

when the conversation acutely turned, demanding my undivided attention...

DJ - "Are you a Christian?"

British Boy - "What's…

THE DENTIST FREAKS ME OUT

The dentist freaks me out. So I haven't gone. In 6 years. I sometimes wonder if the whole dentist movement isn't a scam. I mean, who am I to argue back & say, "No, that's not a cavity," or "You misread the xray, that's not a wisdom tooth." I'm sure my dentist's office has my pic plastered in breakrooms &… Continue

My Kid's Memory Verses. Agh!

Every week, my 7 year old, DJ, has to memorize a bible verse. As a pastor, it pains me to say this, but he hates it. Tonight, for whatever reason, he was a real bear about it. But one thing that's cool is as DJ learns it, so does the rest of the family. Tonight, I had to laugh, when DJ started crying out of frustration & Andy spoke up & finished the verse for him. Here it is, in case you wanna learn it too:"Don't let anyone make fun of… Continue
