I feel pretty...oh so pretty...

I have gotten a bit side-tracked lately with my daughter just moving in. We've been doing things here and there. It's fun having her back around me. :) Did I say that she is in photography? Well, Sunshine has been working on her photography for awhile now and so the other day she took some photos of me.

A Balloon Launch With the Paparazzi

I teased you Saturday with a hint of how we usually spend our Father's Day weekends.  It's not everyday that the skies fill with colorful conveyances and our…

Awestruck

Even before I moved to Vermont, I became familiar with Simon Pearce glassware and its reputation for elegant and yet everyday glassware.  We are lucky enough to have some Simon Pearce pieces ourselves: champagne glasses that we got as an engagement gift,…

Photo Walk: The Waterfall

My journey into photography classes has come to an end.  Two straight months of assignments became a bit grueling, and I will admit I flaked a bit on the last week.  The final assignment, a sort of culmination of all that I have learned, was to take a photo walk and capture the moments and surroundings.  Exhausted, overwhelmed by switching to WordPress, and frustrated or not, I knew I had to make time for that one.  A tribute to my…

Photography, This Week

So I thought I'd keep you all posted on my progress in my online photography class at Simplicity--my life in mostly photographs.  Just finished week 3, which focused on cropping, and as an exciting bonus, my mom just signed me up for the next eclass which starts in May as an early birthday present!  I am really excited to learn the nitty gritty details of my camera; I hate being self-taught and just winging it.  But…

Simply Bliss Week 1

I am currently taking my first photography class ever online with one of my favorite photography bloggers, Faith at Simplicity.

I am so excited to get down to basics and learn the little things that I never had an opportunity before.  Like how to wrangle the dreaded indoor light that is my nemesis.  Since my…

Diptych

One of the best parts about expanding my blogging horizons has been the amazing things I've learned about photography and the very cool people and websites I have discovered who challenge me.  One of the first ones I found was Simplicity--my life in mostly photographs

and the very first day I went over there…

Disclaimers aside, I am really digging a particular preset in my Adobe Lightroom photo editing software.  I really have not dabbled in the world of presets…

Joy of Luck #7: My Rainbows

Today is the last Joy of Luck assignment, and it ends on a high note.  We are to consider (and photograph) our own personal rainbow, in a metaphorical sense.  What will bring me luck in the future?  What blessings do I have to look forward to?  That one was pretty easy for me, since my family is such a blessing and I can only consider myself lucky for having the people and babies in my life that I…

Defunkifying

We're in a funky stage right now, by which I mean "a stage which puts me in a funk."  The kids are oblivious and happy, but I am less than enamored with their current conditions.  Jax has decided that the art of listening is not high on his priority list and has deemed myself, his gymnastics instructor, his music teacher, and any other adult who tries to corral him into a polite or sedentary state as irrelevant.  No need to listen to them; they're irrelevant. …

A little MacGuyver inspired photo shoot

Feels like I haven't I haven't posted all weekend.  Oh wait, I haven't. Sorry wonderful people who read my blog.  I've been working on a little side project that took up most of my free time this weekend.

But today I thought I'd give you a tutorial on how to take some "product shots."  You know, pictures of things like jewelry or food or anything that you want to take  a photo of but you want it to have a white background and to be sitting on a white surface. Does this make sense?…

Today is the final day for the Joy of Love photo tutorial and I'm going to miss it.  Even though I only participated about once a week, I still loved getting the emails and thinking of ways to document how I love my family. I need to continue doing that, tutorial or no, on…

Today's Joy of Love assignment was to document Where.  Where I fell in love.  Where my heart became his.   I could have applied this to my kids, but who wants a picture of a yucky delivery room?  I'll take sunny California any day.  San Diego, where JDubbs and…

This weekend we bundled up to do something that was rustic even by Vermont standards.  Uber-outdoorsy.  Not my usual cup of tea.  In fact, my father-in-law was so suprised to see my step out of the mini-van that he exclaimed, "You're coming, too?"  Of course I'm coming.  It's not every day I get to take pictures of Jax's first time ice…
