The NHS has been facing ever-increasing pressures in recent years, with slashed budgets, staff shortages and lack of resources taking its toll on the quality of care. One of the many ways we commonly see the impact of these pressures is in waiting times for GP…
The day you’ve dreamed of for years has finally arrived! Your little girl is all grown up and has chosen a partner to start her life with, and you are officially a MoB -- Mother of the Bride! While congratulatory remarks are appropriate at this juncture, so are a few…
This one is as simple as crowdfunding your honeymoon. It might sound strange at first, but do you really need another blender or set of dinner plates? Instead of having your guests purchase a bunch of things you’ll end up trying to return anyway, why not let them chip in for…

I was the first of my family and friends to have a baby last year during the baby boom. Cousins were pregnant, co-workers were pregnant, friends were pregnant, even famous people who are significantly older than me were pregnant. I began to suspect babies aren’t really made the way my mother told me. I think sometimes you can get pregnant from drinking water.…

I talk about myself a lot. But then again, this is the place to do so. This is MY blog.
On Twitter I am known as DCWorkingMommy. Why? Because I am a mommy who works in Washington, D.C. Clever, no?
I don’t talk about the specifics of what I do, however I share some of the drama that I sometimes encounter.

I’m aware of the fact that I dream every night, although I usually (and thankfully) forget the specifics. The subject matter has not improved with age. When I used to suffer nightmares about showing up at school naked, I now suffer nightmares about showing up at work naked. Must say, my post-breastfeeding boobs look pretty good. I still dream about running and not getting anywhere, falling out of the sky, and being trapped in a car underwater. This might be a cry for help, but mostly I think…

Snow; a word that incites panic and excitement. Panic for the adults and excitement for the young and young at heart.
On Friday afternoon, there was nervous office chatter about the snow and wintry weather headed our way. If you don’t know what that means in Washington, D.C., let me illustrate a picture for you. Although it is not necessary to stock up on toilet paper and water, it is necessary to conform with all the other panic-stricken zombies who are. Go to the grocery store…

I can’t tell a joke and I probably won’t tell this one very well. I am that annoying person who has to go back a moment before the punch line because I forgot to mention some crucial detail. I’m obsessed with being punctual, but that doesn’t mean I have good comedic timing.
I gave all of my comedic timing to my son.
My husband, mother, and I were discussing the pool of republicans running for the presidential nomination. Party animals, right? My son was too busy thinking about…

I have a lot of things in my house that serve no purpose.I have them simply because I can. They might have been a good bargain or a well intentioned gift, but they serve no purpose in my life. Bath loofahs are a good example. I probably have 10, am always acquiring more, but never-ever use them.
I can take little credit for the meals which are prepared in our house. My husband is chef. I am cooking-assistant (yes, that’s what he really calls me). I peel potatoes, chop onions, boil…

I have never been a world traveler. I’ve only ever left the country to go to Canada, didn’t go to Walt Disney World until I was 19 years old, flew once on an airplane when I was 2 years old and not again until I was 24, and I have never been on the West Coast.
I can still remember those random winter days when we would gather for a family meeting to discuss where we wanted to go for our family vacation. Being the ten year old history buff I was, I always suggested colonial…

I have gotten a bit side-tracked lately with my daughter just moving in. We've been doing things here and there. It's fun having her back around me. :) Did I say that she is in photography? Well, Sunshine has been working on her photography for awhile now and so the other day she took some photos of me.

Even before I moved to Vermont, I became familiar with Simon Pearce glassware and its reputation for elegant and yet everyday glassware. We are lucky enough to have some Simon Pearce pieces ourselves: champagne glasses that we got as an engagement gift,…

So I thought I'd keep you all posted on my progress in my online photography class at Simplicity--my life in mostly photographs. Just finished week 3, which focused on cropping, and as an exciting bonus, my mom just signed me up for the next eclass which starts in May as an early birthday present! I am really excited to learn the nitty gritty details of my camera; I hate being self-taught and just winging it. But…

I am currently taking my first photography class ever online with one of my favorite photography bloggers, Faith at Simplicity.
I am so excited to get down to basics and learn the little things that I never had an opportunity before. Like how to wrangle the dreaded indoor light that is my nemesis. Since my…
