Planning Ahead, Birthday Edition

Trying to plan a birthday party with 3 kids running around is rough. Today, I am sharing my planning methods that help me to be stress free and enjoy the planning process!

My daughter is turning 5 this December. I plan birthday parties months ahead of time because I get everything  done without worrying about spending too much all at once, not finding certain decorations or anything I need at our local stores, making sure I order what I need with enough time to get here and send back…

Making Time in Our Busy Lives for Family Meals

You've heard that there are many benefits to family meal planning, but there are also many challenges.  First, it’s difficult to plan a family menu for a whole week.  How do you keep from duplicating the same meals over and over?  Second, your family’s schedule may be very hectic with no one in the same place at…

Fertility and death and stuff

When I was 24 years old, I was sharing an elevator ride with a woman in her 40s. I had just met her about five minutes ago at a crafting event. She had been talking to her friends about getting pregnant. As soon as the elevator doors closed, she turned to me and asked, "You're in your twenties, right?" I said yes. "You should go ahead and freeze your eggs now, that way they will be good when you hit 40 and decide you are ready to have a…

Fast food makes for some unhappy meals

Sometimes, a gal just wants a burger. Now, my husband makes a great burger - tasty and juicy and perfectly grilled. But, if he's not around (or it's crazy cold outside), I'll do some quick Mom math in my head:

(my craving level x number of days since I had fast food / servings of healthy food and exercise that week)…

Determining when you plan on taking maternity leave can be an overwhelming process since you don’t know the exact date of your baby’s arrival.  However, it is very important that you find out what your rights and benefits are early in your pregnancy.  The best place to find out your maternity rights are is to refer to your companies employee handbook, to determine if…

Single Mother's Day

View post on SingleMomStyle.com

Even though I’m a mother myself, I’ve always knows Mother’s Day to be focused around my mother and typically include the four F’s of Mother’s Day: faith, family, food and flowers. This Mother’s Day, however, will be a little different. My mom is on vacation and living up her retirement, rightfully so, but she won’t be around for actual Mother’s Day. My brother and I…

BEACH THEMED BABY SHOWER

Warmer weather is just around the corner and the beach baby shower theme is perfect for the season.  We absolutely love a surf baby shower theme for both boys and girls! It is casual and fun, great for a couple’s shower or a mommy-to-be who loves the beach.  Turn your home or backyard into a tropical oasis and give the mom-to-be a relaxing day at the beach.  Is your guest list ready to hang…

Oh, How I Hate to Cook!

I have a confession to make.  Cooking is not one of my favorite things to do.  In fact, I really kind of hate it.  OK, maybe hate is a bit strong.  I mean, it’s not as bad as scrubbing the shower floor or putting clean sheets back on the beds (raise your hand if you hate dealing with fitted sheets).  But those…

Time to Start or Restart A Business

There are millions of people all over the United States who want to start or re-start businesses of their own. It reminds me of a riddle I read on Facebook once:
Fact:   There were five birds sitting on a telephone wire. Three planned to go to Florida for the winter.
Question: How many birds were left?
Answer:   Five because planning to do something is not the same as actually doing something.…

Changing My Perspective

I wake up the next day, and before I’m out of bed, BOOM it hits me just like that. Everything in my mind has changed. This isn’t just a good thing, it’s a great thing. It is a blessing. I want kids. So maybe it didn’t happen the way that I thought it would. It definitely didn’t happen the way I envisioned, but that doesn’t mean it’s anything but great. I say it again to myself It is a blessing!

My brother’s statement from last night plays again in my head, “If you think of it…
