So, I'm trying to eat more vegetables.

The first time I tried to be vegetarian, I was 10 years old and it lasted for about half a day.

I demanded a meat-free breakfast, to which my mother first balked and then obliged (after a short Q&A sesh in the kitchen “What made you decide this?/ I don't know” and “What do you want instead of meat?/ I don't know”) and I happily ate my cheesy scrambled eggs and buttered toast.

By lunch time I found myself at a little restaurant with my mom and one of her friends. I heard them…

Ways to Celebrate Earth Day with Your Family

Back in 1952, Ohio’s Cuyahoga River caught fire and caused $1.5 million in damage to Cleveland. The city’s industrial revolution had taken its toll with the oil and debris clogging the river and igniting on a regular basis. When the river went up in flames yet again in 1968, the situation gained national attention. The Cuyahoga became a poster child for early environmentalists.…

Starting an Avocado Tree

A few weeks ago I posted photos on my instagram page showing how beautifully my mother in law's fruits plants have grown. She has a papaya tree, avocado tree, banana tree, mango tree and more grown. There are a few others in their beginning stages. It only took about 5 years for some of her plants to start bearing fruit and I was thinking I should've started growing plants as soon as we bought our house. By now I would have…

I Caught Rascal Hiding in my Plant Sending Text Messages

Rascal had to be rescued from the dog kennel yesterday while I went to run a few errands.  The dog was giving him the evil eye yesterday for being in her kennel and I didn’t want her to take revenge on him.  So I placed him on the fireplace mantel so that he was safe and out of harms way.

Read the rest of the story and find photos of Rascal's adventure at…

Get Your Green On

Aaaahhhhh, sigh of relief. The forties are now the twenties, the fifties are now the thirties, which makes this new millennium one of new energy, new action, and new commitments. In the past ten years of this new millennium we have each subtracted just as many years from our age! Sigh of relief again here. Whoever thought of this trend and helped it to catch on needs a big high five, a huge piece of cake, and free ice cream for life as a thank you. Now that we each have the opportunity to…

Repotting: Not as Hard as It Seems

Have you ever procrastinated about caring for your plants merely because

your didn't know how to do it? Well, that rang true in my case. I have

this house plant that my sister gave me, which my other sister had given

her. It is a beautiful, thriving plant but the stems are pushed all the

way to the edges. It actually needed to be repotted about 8 years ago

so I'm not sure how it has managed to survive this long.

I had no idea how to put it in a bigger pot… Continue
