To Boost Or Not To Boost

I'm not a Facebook guru, by any stretch.

My fan page confuses the heck out of me, specifically why some posts get minimal reach whereas others get tremendous engagement...we're talking mind-blowing numbers. From little old me. =)

I still have yet to figure out how these posts are evaluated by the elusive Facebook algorithms but here is what I suspect...they pick up on certain words and if there is anything remotely related to a contest or giveaway or solicitation of business,…

Things I've Learned This Week

** It's evidently mating season for a-holes.

** If I never go to the U.S. Post Office again, it'll be too soon.

** Summer needs to just…

Passport Pain in the Ass

One of the standing items on my "to-do" list for the past couple of years has been to get passports for my twins.  (Cause ya just never know when you might need to skip the country, right?)  I knew it was gonna be a huge hassle, which is the main reason I've put it off for so long.  But, in true Nucking Futs…

What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Anyway?

You can find serenity in learning that even if you do have a problem, there is always a solution. When a person experiences a serious, traumatic event, she should be prepared to have many people tell her that she that  she will suffer from post traumatic stress syndrome.  When two of my children and I were struck by a hit and run truck driver recently my husband joined the chorus of people telling me to watch out and that I was suffering from PTSD aka post traumatic stress disorder. I am a…

How To Support An Emotionally Traumatized Child

Children who have internal scars are often misunderstood.

Today was a bit of a tough day at work. I sat with a family who has weathered one of the worst storms that a person could ever imagine…childhood sexual abuse. Children, under the age of 5, traded for sex and video taped for porn. Now, a decade later, these children have to deal with their inner demons. No, they are no longer living with the people who did this to them. No, they have no contact at all with anyone from…

There was a murder in our back yard

The Bean has been keeping me awake nights with tossing and turning and teething and not being happy about going back into her own bed. Add in the early morning bed invasion of the Peanut and I don't get a lot of sleep or a chance to doze lazily in the mornings. I don't mind, I really don't there's something sweet about the whole family snuggled up first thing in the morning. The Bean and the Peanut giggle at each other, I get a few stories out of the Peanut and then we're up and starting the…

Pointless Notes to Self

Something many people don't know about me is that I'm constantly writing things down that I want to remember.  In fact, I am obsessed with the "Notes" app on my iPhone.  Every time I see something interesting in a magazine or hear about a great product from a friend or have a random idea for a blog post, I save it on my phone for later use.  The problem, however, is…

DIY Felt Family Project

A guest post by Anastasia Irvine from Motherhood: Deconstructed.

Ana is a married stay-at-home mom to two beautiful girls. If you’d like to read more from Ana, you can find her blogging here, on Facebook, and Twitter too!

Ever notice that young kids are more interested in the box that their toys come in then the toy itself? It’s easy to spend way too much money on high-tech, overly-priced toys to keep our little ones entertained. When I think about my favorite toys, they were… Continue

September Guest Series - Prepare Your Child for School

I'm sure every mama out there thinks about their child's grey matter. No, I'm not talking about some weird diaper of poop. I'm talking about their noggin. I'm sure you will agree that we want our children to do well in school. If your child isn't old enough you are probably wondering what we can do at home to prepare them for school.
