#ASKAWAYFriday with Beth from Structured in an Unstructured Life

I started participating in #ASKAWAYFriday and I have enjoyed it. I love connecting with other bloggers and learning more about them. I wanted to participate in this blog hop because I don’t always share a ton of information about myself. I thought #ASKAWAYFriday was the perfect way for everyone to get to know me on a personal basis. For those who don’t know what #ASKAWAYFriday is, you exchange a set of 10 questions for another blogger to answer. Below are 10 questions that Beth asked me and…

Healthy Oatmeal Muffins

Here is a healthier muffin recipe.  I like to make them a lot, mainly for my toddler who won’t touch oatmeal (or yogurt, or cream of wheat, or anything of that texture). It still has sugar in it, obviously, but it does make me feel like he is eating at least a little bit of oats and he loves them.  They are not at all overly sweet and are a perfect easy breakfast for the whole family. Read…

Turkey and Beef Chili

Find this recipe at: http://www.thepiggytoes.com/2012/11/08/turkey-and-beef-chili/

The last time I attempted to make a pot of Chili, it was so spicy that no one could eat it except for my dear hubby.  I could only down a tiny bowl and it was a total bust.  I’d venture to say that not many taste testers could’ve handled the heat.  Why so hot?  Well, I met a can of Adobo…

When Dinner Fails

Who here has never burned dinner?  Show of hands, please?  Great, no hands.

Has anyone ever misread a recipe and ended up with something not fit for man nor beast?  Oh look, lots of hands there!

Have you ever forgot to take a crucial dinner ingredient out to thaw, or forgotten to pick it up at the store?  Yes, I thought so.

Ever set your kitchen on fire, rendering your stove inoperable? No?  Just me, then.

I've had all of those…

Recipe: Healthy Cocoa Fudge ('Tis True)

I stumbled across this recipe months ago. But it wasn't until a month ago that I finally made it. You see, when I come across a delicious looking recipe involving chocolate I can't help but read on. 'Tis my lot in life to be a *sigh* chocolate lover.

rosiedreams - Cocnut Fudge First Picture

And this recipe is awesome. And I mean that in more than one way.

1. No sugar in it.

2. No dairy in it.

3. No wheat in it.

4. No cooking.

5. Absolutely awesome flavor, texture and it even presents…

Fava Greens and Fava Beans

Sometimes I feel so incredibly small. Swallowed by the sea of information I attempt to swim in each day. The internet does that to me sometimes. Makes me feel even tinier in scope of the big picture.

I'm one of those types of people who keep turning around, mouth agape, ready to try something new that's caught my fancy. And yet, sometimes I don't feel like I'll ever master anything. I love sewing...but don't get around to it often. I love embroidery, but can't remember the last time I… Continue

Quick Tortellini Soup

Quick Tortellini Soup is one of my favorite recipes because it is easy, fast and includes lots of fresh veggies. I actually first made this recipe while in the nutrition program at the University of Oklahoma in our food preparation lab. I can't believe I am still making it ten years later,…

How to Make a Simple Sock Puppet

The weather’s heating up here in Southern California. We’re fortunate to live just a mere 20-minute drive above the valley below because temperatures easily pass 100 degrees daily in the summer. As you climb the mountain, you literally watch the temperature gauge in the car drop degree by degree, till you arrive at home. A decent 15-20 degrees cooler simply because we’re at 5,000 feet.

But it still gets hot up here in the mountains.

And the hot weather…

Into the kitchen everyday

Has led to many nightly dinners

Of a meal made for winners.

Dear peanut butter jelly, just as night begins to fall,

The children start to call,

“Woe is me. I’m hungry!”

And now, my…

Simply Delicious Onion Soup

As you might imagine, I get lots of new food product samples as food editor at Working Mother magazine. Some may think it's a perk, but the truth is there are very few that make the cut when it comes to both taste and nutrition. These days the grocery bills add up and trying new products may seem more a luxury—lest you risk spending hard-earned bucks on something barely edible. So, I've decided to let you benefit from my trial and error.
