When my son was little, I had a great time picking out books for him. I read him books that I loved when I was little, books that other Moms recommended, and we discovered several new fun series. Some of the books from my childhood had lost their charm, but most of them were like visiting with a very dear friend.…

I've been thinking a lot about my reading habits lately. Mostly, I think about the year I read 100 books. I did it for fun; I did it for the love of reading; I did almost no other extra activities that year. But, I enjoyed those books and the process of finding them and devouring them.…Continue

Every week, my son has trouble coming up with a book to use for his reading homework. And this baffled me. I mean, he is always reading. Sometimes, he is re-reading a book that I saw him read the week before. And, I ask him questions about the things that he reads, so I know he is really reading them.…Continue

This was an amazing read! Once I started, I couldn’t stop reading and pondering it. It is a book that I will read and probably re-read in time.
The book is about a young girl, Caitlin Wang. The heart-warming tale follows the child of this young girl with OCD. She has an imaginary friend, Li Bai. He only exists in her mind now. But she clearly sees him in her dollhouse.
Li Bai is not a complete imaginary figure though. He did exist in 700 AD. So, despite the…Continue

A few weeks ago I wrote about the importance of maintaining bedtime because I am obsessed with sleep. (But in reality, aren't most parents obsessed with sleep?) Then I was reminded that my amazing Mother reads my blog. She texted me to say it would be a good idea to extend my son's bedtime if he spends the…Continue

As a child, you couldn't catch me without a book in my hand. My idea of fun was spending a Saturday at the library, checking out every hardcover I could carry. I would read to anyone who would listen, including my Cabbage Patch Kids lined up on my bed. I knew the mailman by name. I sat by the door waiting for him to deliver my monthly subscription of Highlights magazine. After I finished a chapter, I would write my own stories in a notebook. But as time passed and as I…Continue

I have always been a reader. I can not remember a time that I didn't love books and magazines. When I was little, my grandmother always subscribed to magazines like Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Ebony and Jet. I spent countless hours flipping through those magazines as a child. My grandmother got a kick out of me sitting in her living room reading the Los Angeles Times newspaper when I was about 9 years old. When I was totally engrossed in a book and it was time for bed, I…Continue

As you know, I've taken on reading as a part-time job. My consumption of night time television comedies is at dangerously low levels because of this. I actually missed "The Big Bang Theory" last week because of my reading! The humanity!
