We all go through phases with our children's diets. (Heck, I go through phases in my own diet as my tastes change throughout the month. So what can I expect?) But kids are notorious for being "picky," "difficult" and "plain."
And truth be told, my kids have thus far been truly amazing little eaters. My first has very openly tasted foods most of her life, leaning towards a less-interested stage when she hit four years of age, but nonetheless, discovering for herself what she truly…

Our review of fancy grilling gear this past week combined with the – finally – warmer weather got us in the mood to fire up the BarB. And I wanted to propose a super simple recipe for you. When I serve these marinated grilled vegetables, I invariably get “wows” and then get asked how I prepared them. They…

As I promised, here we go with the first Italian recipe.
You ladies better follow step by step and let me know how it goes. Ok?
The main thing to learn is the concept of "soffritto".
The soffritto is the base of 80% of Italian recipes...so you better get it right since the first time!!

First of all I want to make something really clear:
DO NOT EXIST IN THE ITALIAN FOOD TRADITION.
They have not even been mentioned once.
If you do have anything that looks like an Italian passport, well...for sure, you have never heard of them.

It is that time again when the Concert in the Park season begins. In our town, they are held every Sunday afternoon during the summer months. This is a time when we see all the families from this community come together to listen to some great music; everything from from Reggae to Top 40 Hits to Classical and Country. As the children play on the playground, we spread out our blankets and open our picnic baskets to enjoy a little wine and nosh, as we sit…Continue

I have a LOAD of cookbooks. I love to cook, I think it is fun. Typically I find a few recipes in each cook book that I like and the others don't really interest me too much. Not so with Jamie's Food Revolution: Rediscover How to Cook Simple, Delicious, Affordable Meals .…Continue

If you want to be a hero for your kids, your man, or actually, even just yourself, then I would highly recommend making these pancakes. I love me some red velvet cake, and now I have an excuse to have them for breakfast? I am in!

So I was going through my recipe books, which I haven't done in awhile! I found my book "365 Foods Kids Love to Eat". As I was browsing through the categories, I came across the baby food section. This is a big deal for me, cause I'm tired of giving my 22lb 6 month old son the same boring veggies and fruit all the time! Plus it gets boring cooking the same things all the time! So I was…Continue

At the end of the summer, I sent two of my sons and our moose sized dog Dutch, down the lane to pick blackberries. An hour later they returned, almost empty handed, with just a pitiful pile of berries tumbling around the bottom of their bowl. I had envisioned an overflowing bounty upon their return and was confused. “Uhmm, we found out that Dutch likes blackberries too!” they exclaimed with purple stained smiles and ran through the house on to their next adventure.

I remember the good ol’ days when my husband used to make me breakfast in bed. In fact, as Valentine’s Day approaches I asked him about the amazing puffed pancake he used to make for me way back when. It took a bit of prompting (obviously it has been way too long) but he finally remembered and started the search for the lost recipe. Torn from the pages of a 1992 Select Homes magazine, we finally found it! Here it is…

The meal prep/assembly shop concept has been around for a while. But I had personally never experienced it before. Why would I, I thought? Our family understands the value of family dinners and we do all sit down to dine together at least 4 times a week. And I know how to cook and – most of the time – enjoy it. Why would I ever need a meal prep service?…Continue

As with all families, our Christmas morning’s agenda is all about opening presents and pulling fun gifts and treats out of stockings. But before that even happens, everyone needs to hold tight until the coffee and hot chocolate drinks are made and, more importantly, that the Chelsea Buns (our Christmas morning tradition) are baked. We nibble on these wonderfully gooey, decadent Chelsea Buns that I have prepared the night and just popped in the oven that morning. They are sooooo easy to make…Continue
