Over the weekend we popped over to a fellow mummy blogger's home to pick up some shelves from her garage sale. While The Husband was dismantling the shelves, Xan and I decided to do a little more shopping. He almost immediately spotted the cookbook among the boxes of books and while flipping through it, he got excited and told me he wanted to make everything in the book. Since it was only $4, it was definately coming home with us.
He wanted to make the Chocolate…Continue

When I worked in our elementary school district, one of the most heartbreaking things I dealt with were the kids who came to school hungry. Our school didn’t offer a lunch program, but it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. Our school didn’t have “cooking” equipment. We basically only had ovens to heat up processed…Continue

I found this recipe on All Recipes in a last minute search for a different kind of flavor instead of my go-to ‘Parmesan Tilapia’. While I could have just posted the link and called it a day, I of course didn’t follow all of their directions and…Continue

Original Content from: Oh, Just Stop Already
Let me preface this recipe that I did NOT make this a CLEAN version. I waited too long to hit up the healthy food store in the next town over so I did the best that I could do with what I could find on a Sunday…

There has been a whole lot in the news lately about Kraft Foods and their boxed macaroni and cheese. And with good reason. Ever wonder what gives the product its golden, “cheesy” color? Artificial dyes my friend. I mean, come on. The “cheese” is a yellow powder that you mix with milk and butter.
But here’s the kicker. Several other countries have banned these artificial dyes and refused to sell any products containing them. So did that mean that these European boys and girls…Continue

If you read my post last Monday, which you can access here, you know that cooking was never my favorite household chore. It always ranked right up there with ironing and scrubbing the toilet bowl. But the family has to eat, am I right?
Actually, it wasn’t the cooking part that I had an aversion to, nor was it wondering what to make. I have tons of great cookbooks and recipes that have been handed down over the years so culinary ideas are not the issue. It wasn’t even the cleanup…Continue

The dilemma is probably as old as motherhood itself. How DO you get your kids to eat their vegetables? When I was a kid, I remember hating a LOT of things my mom put on my plate: beets, apple sauce, mustard, spinach, radishes (still not a fan – sorry Mom) and a bunch of other things. I always felt like they were on my plate to punish me for something I had done wrong.
As years went by, my taste buds matured and I developed a liking for everything on this list – except for…Continue

One of the challenges I have faced in my journey to be green, healthy and fit is in the area of cooking. If you have read my posts before, you know about my aversion to cooking. It’s one of those necessary evils I suppose, even though I am what you might call “kitchen challenged”. Don’t like cooking or baking, but I can clean like a champ!
My husband is, quite fortunately for me, the kind of guy who will eat pretty much whatever I put in front of him. Even if he doesn’t like it so…Continue

I know that my son gets plenty of vitamins because he takes a fantastic supplement and I “hide” vegetables and fruits in just about everything (might have to do a post about that). But when it comes to eating fruits and vegetables in their natural state, it’s all about the “dip”.
He doesn’t like apple slices unless there is peanut butter involved. Forget about carrots if there is no ranch dressing. Salad? Better have some raspberry vinaigrette. I should be glad, I know but I…Continue
Cod isn’t a fish I cook with often but I have no clue why! It’s filling, hearty and delicious. After making this dish, Cod will definitely be in the mix! When I came home from the grocery store with my ‘new’ found fish, I put a post on Facebook requesting an easy, fast & flavorful recipe! Of course, my lovelies (many…Continue

I bought several cans of biscuits on my last trip to the grocery store and my kids kept asking me what I planned on making with them since I normally don’t buy a ton of biscuits. I told them that I was going to make them surprise using the biscuits. Today my son asked me to make the surprise recipe. I told…Continue

This is what I call a Lazy Mamas Crockpot Dinner! I came up with this dish one morning with no recipe, I wasn’t inspired by anything in particular; I opened my refrigerator and had carrots, pre-sliced mushrooms and chuck roast. That was dinner. You can see how lazy I was because I didn’t even cut the carrots, but with…Continue

I put together this crockpot on a cold, snowy day. I knew by lunch-time that the last thing I wanted to do was stand in the kitchen cooking dinner come 5pm so this was perfect! I put all of the ingredients in the crockpot, stirred and turned it on high for 4 hours.
Though I couldn’t taste anything (thank…Continue

I put this crock-pot together on Sunday when the boys were recovering from the flu. Yes, I already know what you’re thinking… Mexican food? With the flu? Crazy, right? Well, they pretty much spent Friday and Saturday on the couch, eating nothing but toast with jelly,…Continue

Ahhhhh Sunday. I needed Sunday. We went to church in the morning and then I took a little Sunday drive by myself while the boys (all 3 of them) napped. I listened to music, sipped a soy latte and cleared my head. It was refreshing after all of my stressful ob-gyn stuff. I’m still stressed about…Continue

I threw this crock-pot together last minute after pre-school and it turned out great! Though the colors in the picture are kind of ‘boring’… the flavor of this dish are NOT! Our boys loved it; and it was even more delicious over Creamy Parmesan Rice! I also steamed their fav veggie- edamame! Wonder why the love edamame? ; ) Its playful and kid friendly – so fun to ‘pop’! Lastly, I didn’t want to take the time to brown the chicken like the directions say, so I literally threw every last…Continue

I love that our little family now has a few traditions throughout the year and this is one of them! Monkey Bread. I only make it one time a year; on Christmas morning and this year I am especially excited for it (probably bc I’m pregnant and have been craaaaving it since December 1st!)
Monkey Bread is prepared on Christmas Eve and left sitting out on the counter until morning. Then, all you have to do when you wake is pop it in the oven, set a timer, and voila! 20 minutes…Continue
