Kids, NO Means NO…or Does It?

How many times have you said “NO” to your kids, yet they still keep on asking? Ummm…how about every second of every hour of every day.  Yah…in my house too!  If your answer is never, I don’t believe you!

Does this scenario sound familiar?

“Mommy can we have ice…

5 Things People Ask Me When They Find Out I'm Married To A Gynecologist

I can see the pupils dilate and the wheels begin to turn when people find out that I'm married to a gynecologist. Paranoid as this may seem, I've answered enough questions and survived too many bizarre interactions to be caught with my pants down again. My husband commenced his OB-GYN residency two weeks…

How to Succeed at Work - Respect Those in Authority

Many people are at work complaining about how much they hate the supervisor, how stupid the boss is and how no one running the company has a good idea about anything. It reminds me of a line from a Staples Singers song, "if you disrepect everyone that you run into, how in the world to you expect anyone to respect…

Lead by Example or Shut the Hell Up!

"Move!" That was the statement that started the battle between me and Fiance.

He walked over to my 8-year old, who was playing on my iPad and said, "Move!" My son frowned and looked at Fiance and then at me, and I softly said, "He meant excuse me, but move J." Fiance became angered and said, "No, I didn't."

Then, it was on.

His point: In my home, children can have the entire house, but my bedroom is my oasis.

My point: I work hard to teach the boys to be…

The Homework Battle Goes on.....or Does It??

iStock_000003891502XSmall It is the time of year when that dreaded word "HOMEWORK" becomes a daily battle with parents - or does it? Depending on the age of your children it can cause a lot of problems, drama and opportunities for your child to engage you in power struggles. Truthfully, a lot of how your child reacts comes directly from how you approach the subject and how "little" you participate. Yep, you… Continue

Respecting Those in Authority- a Call Out to Mothers

Moms tend to set the moral barometer in the home, teaching children about table manners, acceptable social skills and the need to respect adults and those in authority. We navigate the sassy years, the rebellious years, and the defiant years believing that with any luck, the values we’ve instilled in our offspring will take root and bear fruit. I recently blogged about Fox News' disrespectful treatment of Michelle Obama and while my blog was an initial gut reaction thing, I started thinking about the real reasons people think it's acceptable to disrespect public figures. I think the change started happening right around the time that the… Continue
