A friend of mine told me about the orientation she went to for her daughter's high school. She said that the best and worst moment was when the school's principal addressed the parents to say they should stop making their child lunch. The principal said that it was the child's job to make themselves lunch every day and that was one of the many painful steps parents were going to have to go through.…Continue

At least once a week I have an argument with my son over homework. I fully understand his position: He doesn't want to do it. I am not sure that he understands my position, however: Homework is a part of school; it is a way to show comprehension of materials learned during the week. I am just trying to read him his spelling words.…Continue

Like many parents, I struggle with my son's screentime. Sure, we have rules in place to limit the amount of time he has per day, but that is only a start. When we consider content that he is allowed to access, "play time" versus more educational materials, and his behavior upon learning his time is up (children have a hard time with the concept of how fast time can move), I find it is a subject that I need to revisit more often than I…Continue

Last weekend, my son went to swim lessons. It had been three weeks since he had been, and on the car ride home he happily talked all about them. "It's good to get back to the routine of them," he said.…Continue

“I mean, I had terrible, terrible, skin. It was embarrassing, and I did everything I could think of to make it go away. I tried to cover it with makeup. I tried to get rid of it with medication: oral, topical, even the harshest…Continue

Inexplicably, my son wakes up early on the weekends. I don't know how he does this. I know why he does it, as he proudly tells me that he gets himself up early so he can have "the most amount of fun on his days off as possible." But this still doesn't explain how he will not move a muscle when his alarm goes off on school mornings yet wake himself up a good half-hour earlier than his alarm on weekends.…Continue

Hey dolls, Happy Sunday. Wrapping up August with a revisit to an old post I thought was relevant since school has arrived once again. Summer can be disruptive to a bedtime flow because of the later Sunset and all the fun activities. Getting back into the swing of things can cause stress and anxiety.
Bedtime for kids can either be fun or full of drama.
You had a long day at work or you have spent your day home with the kid’s one task after another and when 7:30 rolls around all…Continue

My son and I have a deal to help him get through his school morning routine: If my little bear completes his tasks early (dressed, teeth and hair brushed) then he is allowed to play on his iPad. This gives me enough time to make his lunch and do my hair and make-up.…Continue

As of today, I am very lucky with my son's bedtime routine. He and I snuggle up in his bed and read books together (he reads me one and I read him three). Then there are hugs and kisses and then the light goes off. He very rarely leaves the bedroom.…Continue

It took me about 4 weeks to settle into a night time routine with Oliver. However, since we started, it has been FANTASTIC! I wish that we had started our bedtime routine much earlier. I don't think it is ever too early to start. Before I share what we do at night, a quick disclaimer: I DO NOT stick to this every night... We are human! There are nights that just don't go as planned. I am ok with having off nights, but we try to do our routine whenever…Continue
I asked for - and received - a fitbit for Christmas. I thought it would make me move more throughout my day. And maybe it does. But what it has really done has made me obsessed with my sleep.
Every morning, I sync over my data and look at my sleep efficiency. I stare at the magenta areas: What is waking me…

Frustrated was an understatement.
A-man needs these diapers due to sensitivity to disposables but the smell was unbearable.
When I started cloth diapers I read up how to wash the them.
Some people would say use bleach, don't use bleach, use only…Continue
