Give Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving! (a few days late)

Are you exhausted? ; )  This was the first Thanksgiving I hosted and not that I didn’t know it was a lot of work but I think being pregnant with an achy back just made all of the work a *little harder!  I was so sore and sleepy on black Friday but it was so worth it!  The memories, the smell of Thanksgiving in our home all day, watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade and the comfort of being together with nowhere…

Welcome to our Toy-Room

http://www.thepiggytoes.com/2012/11/16/welcome-to-our-toy-room/

One of the joys of, well, all of my pregnancies is that I organize and re-organize everything.  Tell me you’re the same way, yes?  During my last ‘nesting session’, I hit the toy room, purged lots of toys and re-organized everything.  My head was spinning with options as to what to do with all of their toys and…

What I Wore: 6 Months Pregnant!

http://www.thepiggytoes.com/2012/11/14/hello-6-months/

It feels so good to say hello to the 6 month mark!  I’m still sporting my scarves these days and nixing a coat!  It works for me (for now) but I’m sure with cold days to come, I’ll be forced to pull out my puffy jackets and hats!  I popped into Anthropologie for the first time in forever and must admit, I…

A Letter to my Son on his Birthday

http://www.thepiggytoes.com/2012/11/13/a-letter-to-my-son-on-his-birthday/

3 years ago today, our Roman was born.  I woke early and felt great but I was nervous about what was to come.  I can remember thinking about how crazy it was that I felt so good and in just a few short hours, I would be in a lot of pain.  Repeat C-Section.  I bent over and touched my toes, twisted…

Weekend Highlights: Trick-or-Treat & Snow

Hey friends,

How are you?  No really.  How are you?  Do you ever get into the fake “How are you’s” too?  Seems like these days, Brian and I get so busy and our ‘how are you’s’ come out so fake and quick and fast and then we really aren’t listening to what the other is saying.  Like when he came home from work one night last week and I was getting dinner on the table.  I said,

“Hey babe, how are you?” – getting dinner on all 4 plates…

Hi,

It's so great being here.

I love knowing I am part of something BIGGER not just some lonely blogger who most of the time feels like she is just talking to herself!

I am a S.A.H.M in every sense of the word.  I live in Australia where absolutely nothing happens at allllllllll!

I would give anything to be fortunate enough to be able to move to the States or Canada & give my family a better life.

This is something I…

5 Practices That Help Me Save Money as a Homemaker

There are advantages to working from home, one of which is that I don't have to commute to work every day or sit through rush hour traffic just to get to my office. Since my husband and I both work from home, we're able to save on certain expenses. However, you can never save too much, right? So here's how I save, in my own little way, as a mom, a wife and a homemaker.

1. Less trips to the grocery: My contribution to the family income goes towards all our food. We used to do… Continue

Day 2 of my first craft show

So Mom and I show up again on Sunday morning. I'm anxious and wondering if I will sell more today....and I'm guessing all the other vendors are wondering the same thing. Since I managed to make enough on Saturday to pay for my booth I'm not as obsessed today with calculations, mostly just optimistic and excited. Continue Reading

Where are all the people?

So it is day 1 of my very first craft show and my booth is all set up....only 15 minutes past start time. A few people start walking by and looking at my items. It takes awhile before my mom and I realize these are all fellow vendors. Hmmm....will people who came here to MAKE money SPEND money too? Well, if they're anything like us, it's a definite YES. My mom is already scoping it out, Continue…

Playing on Facebook Can Get You a Job

Playing on Facebook can get you a job - I'm not talking about Farmville, though I'm sure there must be something for which those skills can be used.  While Facebook is thought of by many as a way to pass the time, the social network has broad business applications if you use it right.  And it's only one of many networking, aggregating, blogging and mini-blogging sites out there, all of which can be used to pad your resume.…

Social Media and Moms - An Introduction

Social media has revolutionized what it means to be a mother.  Sure, the basics of mothering remain the same throughout the ages, but with all the information of the internet at our fingertips, new theories catch steam quickly, unsafe practices are brought to light in front of large audiences, and people can pick and choose which parenting methods work best for them in real time, as these methods are being used and tested by others.

One of the largest drawbacks to staying at home…

Staying Fab as a Stay-at-Home/Work-at-Home Mom

I make no claims about being a fabulous mommy. I am new to the job, and I am loving it, but it is damn hard to fill the mommy shoes!  Working from home, although much more flexible than an office job, has proven to be quite the challenge. Sure, I am getting the hang of it, and loving the fact that I can spend most of my day with my husband and son. The challenge I refer to is in terms of maintaining some "flair" in the day-to-day; after all, we work-at-home moms are superwomen, right? So we…

The Fake Career Woman

A beautiful blogger and great friend of mine wrote a post today about being a fake stay at home mom (during break as a teacher.)  She got a lot of well-deserved hits, and I laughed at myself, saying, "I'm going to post where you post, claiming that SAHM is a career."

But, then, I thought, what the heck, self?  SAHM is a career.

She writes: As a teacher "for several weeks out of the…
