Trigger warning (see what I did there?) I'm about to go a bit Mama Bear in this post, so buckle up!
Despite decades of sustained declines in violent crime, my family’s safety continues to be the most important thing to me. Home invasions still occur, and you and I both need to be ready. It's a classic scenario for many of us. The husband is at work, the kids are sleeping peacefully in bed, and we are doing some late night blogging. Suddenly, we hear a noise outside. Could it be a possible intruder and what will we do if this person tries to get in? Consider these simple ways to deter…Continue

Since my son was 16 months old, he loved laying his head on anything to rest. Racing over to where I was sitting, feeding his baby brother, he did the abrupt toddler stop, and rested his head on my lap. At the time, I had a burp cloth ready for after the feeding. When I reached down to use it, my sweet boy's head was laying on it, eyes drowsily shutting. He looked…Continue

In the digital age, the privacy and identity of you and your family are always in danger even though a wide range of technological advances can make you safer than ever before. Thieves strike at any moment offline and online using a variety of tactics to steal your personal information. Especially at risk are aging, technology-illiterate parents and your innocent, not-yet-jaded-but-knows-how-to-use-your-phone-better-than-you…Continue

Do crime rates decrease during the summertime? Most people would assume that crime rates would decrease during the summer since families are more active, plan vacations, and aren’t always at home. You might be surprised but …Continue

Is your child attached to a certain stuffed animal, lovey, or a blanket? Do they love to carry it around every where they go? Most toddlers go through a phase where they are attached to a a stuffed animal, lovey, or blanket. They want to take their security object with them everywhere that they go. When my son was born he was given several of those new…Continue

If you children are using the Internet it is important as a parent to keep them as safe as possible. There are many dangers on the Internet that most kids don’t understand or care to understand because they are naive. They think that everyone on the Internet is who they say that they are and don’t feel as if anyone can really harm them, when in reality this is far from the truth. There are predators searching online for tweens and teens looking to mislead them down the wrong path. Also, many…Continue

Through Hotwire.com we booked Silverado Resort and Spa. This place is beautiful and can be spendy. (Booking through Hotwire.com lessened the cost :-> ) The main part of the resort is a beautiful building, surrounded by a golf course, tennis courts, restaurant and spa across the street. The rooms are not so much hotel rooms as they are, what they call, cabanas. Each place has its own entrance, your own little home. We were escorted to…Continue

Happy Belated Mother’s Day! As a mom, you know how hard it is to stay connected to your teen—especially if your teen has a busy online life in addition to all the activities and events they are participating in offline. I encourage parents to be involved in the online communities of their teens—especially when it comes to Facebook.
“Friending” your child on Facebook is just the first step. The next step is making sure you keep this “Friend” connection alive and…Continue

I count myself lucky that my husband, sister and brother-in-law are all computer savvy. I can only get by on the day to day things. If something goes wrong like, it doesn't boot up, it's slow or just won't work. I can't do anything about it. There have been a few times were the hardware stopped working and I had to wait until my husband came home. Continue

Recently, a friend told me about a negative incident she had while dining at a large restaurant chain. Her waitress was very rude and inattentive. By the time her meal arrived, her colleague had finished eating. The last straw was realizing her steak was prepared wrong. Angrily, she took out her I Phone and sent out a tweet to her followers about her…Continue

Internet safety isn’t about a bunch of rules telling you “never do this”, or trying to scare you into safe behavior. Internet safety is about avoiding being ripped off, disrespected, bullied, scammed, or stalked while you’re just trying to have a good time online. You don’t…Continue

I have always been worried about home security, not so much when I’m not at home, but more when we are all home and it is the dead of night. I worry about burglars, bad guys and meth heads breaking into our
house. We have an alarm system that
religiously gets set every night before we go to bed…and we have a dog…a dog
that has a strong heritage of German watch dog in him.
