New theme ideas designed by me of course…

I have a horrendous migraine today. You know the type… if you move you vomit, the house has to be pitch black, god for bid the boys make a noise. I thought about getting my head amputated, and getting it replaced with a tin-head, like the tin-man did in the Wizard of Oz. While, not very practical, I thought I better make use of my down time in the bed. I worked on a logo & a new layout. Actually I am quite proud of myself… I love being so creative… I just wished I had more time for…

Awkward Aspie Moments @ McDs

Oh… boy this one both embarrassed me and made me mad.

We were at McD’s about 7mos back, right before we got on our GF kick. And the boys were being their loud, but happy selves, when a worker started sweeping under their feet. A little annoyed because they were eating, and that kinda of distraction, well makes them stop eating.

This young man had no hands, but had 1 thumb on each numb. I know that sounds cruel, but it’t the truth. And I he was…

From one Aspie son to his Aspie father....

Ok, most of you know my hubby has Aspergers too. I try to avoid writing too much about him. Not because I don’t care, it’s just well I spend most of my days being a mom. I really should, Ian is amazingly brilliant and oh so funny. I love it.

Last night, he was having a man-trum… well maybe not quiet a man-trum… but he was complaining.  I was just looking at him and eating my dinner. Thinking to myself, “yeh well they need to learn to wipes the butts better, or lift the seat up, and…

Awkward Aspie Moments @ The Park

The other day we were at the park.  And the boys were having  absolute fits.  They didn’t see some of their homeschool friends, from Virginia Beach Homeschoolers for ASD, a group I started with another homeschooling mommy, who has two boys with ASD as well.  It’s a weekly ritual that we play together, and if you know anything about children with ASD, they don’t care too much for unexpected changes. Honestly, I knew they…

Unspoken Zeke to Chatter box Zeke

Zeke has always been the reserved one. Looking someone in the eye is extremely hard for him most days. And it wasn’t too long ago that Zeke stopped speaking all together.  He went from speaking, to nonspeaking, to speaking, to screaming, to nonspeaking, to screaming, to speaking.  It’s been very bumping for both my boys. But the loss of communication, is heart breaking.

This year Zeke has grown a lot. But he’s never been as out going as his gregarious-out spoken-close talking old…

Awkward Aspie Moments @ The PX

Zeke has gotten into this, all boys love girls and girls loves boys thing. Who the hell knows where he got this notion. Honestly, it’s probably his own thoughts. When he was a baby he would always turn his head whenever he saw a baby girl.

We were at the PX, and I am comparing prices when Zeke’s starts asking. “Mommy, you love all men right?” I wasn’t paying too much attention so I quickly responded not knowing exactly what he meant.  “Yeh, sure hun…. “  Lots of excitement in his…

Sensory Processing Disorder Treatment Starts at Home

This picture may look like a silly Saturday morning pillow fight, but it's actually a great treatment I've discovered for my son's sensory processing issues. Miles just turned 7, and the older he gets the more concerned I've become about his developmental problems. I can't get any help from his school or our insurance company,… Continue

Sensory Diet for The Proprioception System

Proprioception is the sensation that our musles, joints, ligaments and tendons  receives that allows the brain know how and where the body is moving. While most of us can sense this automatically without thought, children with ASD and Sensory Intigration Disorder, this becomes a very real problem. Seemingly easy tasks such as walking or running are very difficult and frustrating to do. You will find that some of the different sensory diets over lap in the systems to which they…

Taking Chances

It was another one of those nights when I couldn’t sleep. By 2am, one kid had woken up once, another twice, and I was wide awake from my efforts to get everyone back to sleep again. So, as I usually do, I

just laid there in bed thinking. Sometimes I think about what to pack

the kids for snacks for camp. Or I wonder if I forgot to put the

laundry in the dryer. Sometimes I think about the long list of things I

haven’t been able to get to. This was one of those…

Lean On Me

Last night I spent some time in the company of some amazing women. All mothers, all with school age kids under the age of 10, all of whom “get it”.

About a month ago, a friend and I had the idea to start a small support group. The original idea was for mothers or fathers of kids who are on the spectrum, and with the help of the school district, we

reached out to parents to see if anyone wanted to meet, just to talk.

Our first meeting last month was so nice that…
