Adult children of divorce

As I have mentioned before, my parents divorced when I was young. There is no doubt in my mind that it was the best decision for both of them. There is also no doubt in my mind that it was a hard decision for them to make.

I was one of the only children of divorce in my Catholic school (no surprises there),…

The Evolution of Sleep Deprivation

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about the dreadful toll motherhood has taken on my sleeping patterns.  Little by little, I'm starting to realize that this sleep deprivation shit is just a never-ending, vicious cycle that nobody ever REALLY tells you about.  Evidently, it never really goes away but just presents itself in different forms along the way, starting from the time…

It's just a little sleepover, but still . . .

My boy is staying over at his friend's house tonight - it's his very first sleepover. He was ecstatic about going, didn't seem the least bit nervous. This is his very best friend, after all, and they haven't seen each other all through holiday break. For an 8 year old, that's an eternity.

I packed his pajamas, his toothbrush, his Pillow Pet - all the essentials he'd forgotten in the excitement of packing those all-important toys. I taped our phone number to the outside of his bag,…

Can Mommy Pee in Private, Please! ~ Mom Blog ~

Yesterday I was telling my husband that I don't ever remember our other two kids being so connected to me as a baby, as in connected at the hip. Of course they loved their 'Mommy' still do as teenagers, but have funny ways of showing it and wanted to be with me, but this is a bit different.

With Hudson, if I stand up and attempt to walk out of the room, I have a whining combat crawler right behind me. It's quite pitiful, to say the least.… Continue

Separation/ Divorce: How Does it Effect a 4 yr. old?

Sadly, my husband and I have separated and are on our way to getting divorce. I'm staying at my moms for now, and of course my son is with me. He thinks we've been on vacation this whole time, it seems. When he says "home", he's talking about daddy's house. His bed is still there, etc. He and I share a room at my moms and there wasn't room for all his things to come with us. I also didn't want to freak him out if we were going to go back at some point. As it stands, this seems to be a permanent… Continue

My Home Is Now An Empty Nest

I now have an empty nest.

Last week I took my youngest child to college and helped set up her dorm room. It was an exhausting and hectic experience but a very productive day, to say the least.

My son is a senior at the same university. He moved back into his apartment on the same day that we moved his sister into her dorm room.

I came home to a completely empty house. For the first time in my adult life, my home is empty. My children are "grown."

I am happy… Continue

Separation Anxiety

Cutie Pie has been going to preschool camp for several weeks now. We've had a huge experience with separation anxiety as a result. The first day he clinged to me for almost 45 minutes before the teacher could pry him off of me for him to experience the two hours at…
