There is a very vocal minority who believes that sexual education for children and teens should be nonexistent, that somehow keeping a child ignorant is "protecting his or her innocence." I firmly disagree with this. Scratch that; make that strongly, emphatically, vehemently disagree.
That belief ignores a very…Continue

My entire life I was taught to get married first and have sex second. Obviously, that didn't play out. Nonetheless, I always associated sex with guilt. I felt guilty for committing a sin and for fornicating with someone who wasn't my husband. I felt like I somehow blocked my blessings in life, because I wasn't following my mom's instructions or God's for that matter. Although…Continue

We were eating dinner in a Chinese restaurant when my son asked me how babies were made. I swallowed my mouthful of sweet-and-sour chicken and answered him with an age-appropriate summary of how sperm and an egg join together and then grown inside a woman's womb to make a baby.…Continue

When I was nine, my Mother showed me a video in which a mother created a uterus and ovaries out of pancake batter to show her friend's daughter how menstruation worked. Some of you may be weirded out by this, others of you will have a vague memory of the video and rest of you will be shocked at how many hits come back when you Google "pancake batter menstruation video." (Evidently, lots of people have fond memories of that…Continue

When I was eight years old, my friend Annie told me about a movie she saw at home. She described scenes of a naked woman riding a horse and a man peeing in a woman's mouth. Many (many) years later I realized Annie had watched one of her father's porn videos. (Is this a Sorry, Mom moment? I don't know.)

Discussions about 50 Shades of Grey seem to be everywhere, ad nauseam. I have been wrestling whether or not to jump into the conversation but I decided I could no longer keep silent as I am passionate about helping people have better relationships and I think there are a few issues that haven’t been addressed yet (believe it or not!) ... so here goes.
First, I love the color Gray…Continue

Okay, so about a week ago I wrote a post about email marketing techniques. Remember...I said I wanted to figure out a way to get people to actually open my newsletter? On my big BOOK LAUNCH DAY???
Well, here are the results of my efforts. Out of 229 recipients, 45.4% opened the email. That is a ROCKING number, folks!!!! The industry average, according to Mail Chimp, is 16.9%.
This is what I learned.
A sexy title with the…Continue

I have a friend with a name very close to my husband's. And I have to keep that in mind, because every time I pull up my husband's name in my phone's contact list, his name appears first. He's a good enough friend, so I've actually given him a fair warning that if he ever receives an inappropriate or confusing text from me to ignore it. (And preferably delete it.) Because when I send messages about being out of soap or a sappy "wish you…Continue
