6 Things You Should Discuss With Your Child’s Doctor

My son was still running a fever all day yesterday so I decided to schedule him an appointment to go see the doctor.  We got to the doctor’s office and my son was talking up a storm and seemed happy.  He wasn’t acting sick at all and I was worried that the doctor wouldn’t find anything wrong with…

5 Ways to Keep Your Child Entertained While Sick

Yesterday I didn’t get the opportunity to write a new blog post.  My baby normally goes to daycare during the day because it is hard for me to care for him by myself due to my current medical problems.  Tuesday late afternoon I got the dreaded call from the daycare that my baby boy was running a fever and…

Do You Feel As If You Are Constantly Missing Work Because Your Baby is Sick?

Infants and toddlers seems as if they are constantly sick for the first years of their life, especially, if they attend daycare.  When my son was younger and we put him in daycare, it seemed as if he was sick with something every few weeks.  We have to alternate days off and one of us would have to end up…

My Cat Loves it When I’m Sick

Stuck at home with the stomach flu, and who loves me the most? My cats!  Sometimes being sick is a bit of a vacation for mom and for the feline friends that are so neglected due to mom's all consuming tasks with the little humans! Also, watching LIfetime movies is a huge bonus of being stuck on the couch all day...…

Sick Husband = Big Baby

I don't know how it is in your household, but in mine, there's a WORLD of difference between when I get sick and when my husband gets sick.  We're talking night and day contrast, people.  You see, he turns into a 39 year-old baby when he's under the weather, whereas I must continue with life as normal, sniffles and aches, be damned!

It was just last week when my other…

Things I've Learned This Week

** Parking garages continue to both piss me off and freak me out.

** Men are by far THE biggest babies when they're sick.

** Taking a shower is really just a whole lotta work.

** My house looks like we had a major party here.  Which would be awesome if we'd had a major party here.

** Auto-pilot is a…

Sickness Demons, Be Gone!

I'm so glad I have older kids. I want to start by saying that.

I just spent the last 24 hours of my life the sickest I have been since my kids were born. (They are 10 and 7 now, for some reference.)

No idea where it came from, no one else got sick, but late Sunday night it started. I was nauseous as hell, spent a good few hours in the bathroom (use your imagination). I ended up stumbling to bed, curling up in the fetal position, and passed out. Woke up bright…

Slacker Volunteer

I took on a volunteer position with one of my kids' schools this year and have been doing a pretty good job (if I say so myself).

Then I got sick. That was three weeks ago and I'm just now working on getting rid of my second (or is this one my third?) sickness. I hesitate to say "cold" too loudly because if it hears me, it might come running and lick me on the mouth. Again.

The Dreaded Man Cold

A nasty sickness has been worming it's way through our family, taking us out one by one like some kind of stealthy, paid-for-hire assassin.

I was first. Then my oldest daughter got and it and this weekend my husband got it. It is a nasty cold but not just any cold, a MAN COLD!

A man cold is similar (on paper) to your run of the mill woman cold, except that in real life it's much more dramatic and whiny.…

Adventures in Applesauce

My kids are sick. Jenna is coming ‘round the bend and should be ready for school tomorrow but Ian and Kara are toast. Kara’s got strep and Ian has a stomach bug…

When I went all the way to Spokane to go grocery shopping there was a man selling apples on the side of the road in the snow. I bought organic pink ladies for $.61 a pound.YUM! I ended up buying 13 pounds. That’s a lot of apples. With my sick kids I decided to make scratch applesauce.

I googled and googled and came up…

Trust the Gut

I may not know what the hell I'm doing half the time with this whole parenting gig, but one thing that I have learned from experience is to trust my gut when it comes to my kids.  (After all, they're the ones who are responsible for making it a lot less flat than it used to be).  So if my gut is telling me that my daughter is, in fact, sick, I'm sure as shit gonna listen to…

Till Death Do Us Barf

Misadventures in Motherhood:  Till Death Do Us Barf

Weddings are wonderful, festive, life-changing, and occasionally disastrous events. I suppose Forrest Gump's famous line could apply to them, in that you never know what you're gonna get.

I was absolutely thrilled when my best friend asked me to be Matron of Honor in her New Year's Eve…

Men....such babies some times!

Why R Men Such Babies?!!

It’s Kindergarten time and we and when I say “we” I say that loosely as I rather mean “I” as Mom! Mom has had to deal with; lice, cold, flu, fevers, pink eye, growing pains, nightmares, teething, etc.

My husband works during the day so, I get it, I…

Another trip to the ER goes badly…Thank God for DAN Doctors

Monday, was such a long day. We did our normal, all day therapy. We visited some friends, when Gabe said his stomach hurt. I asked if he had to go “Caca.” Of course he said No, and I proceeded to make him to at least sit on the toilet. I get him to go, he comes out saying he feels better, and goes back to playing. About 30mins later. He come out and says. “Mommy, I don’t feel soo good, my tummy hurts.” I look at him, and all color has gone from his face.

We left quickly. I was…
