Today we began what I hope will be ritual and tradition. A day to spend giving and thinking about Light- in every sense of the word...

Simple Saturday

The sun is shining through the window next to me

I love sunshine. The warmth it provides, and the brightness are sure to lighten any mood! It's beauty reminds me of the light we are called to be in the world! It's brightness reminds me of the Son shining in my heart and my life!

While my head and nose are stuffy, and a cough seems to be making an appearance, the sun shining lightens my spirits and encourages me to get up and moving throughout the day!

A day at the water…

Simple Saturday

Hubby is away tonight. Just in time my mom sent me a package and inside were two of my favorite movies! Funny Girl and Funny Lady. So I am off as soon as I finish my short, sweet and simple Saturday blog post!

I recently read 1000 Gifts by Ann Voskamp and began counting.....not for anyone, not just because of her book.

See, I didn't read the book for quite a while because it seemed like a "fad" and I don't…

Weeknight Meal: Easy Baked Ziti

One of our favorite weeknight meals is Baked Ziti.  My husband spent two years in Italy. He claims to know Italian food and has given it his stamp of approval. I'll take that.

Baked Ziti is a grand departure from the pasta meals of my childhood.  I…

Experimenting with Brooches

I've had a couple of cross-stitch pieces sitting around that I haven't been able to decide what to do with.  I first thought that I could applique them to something, but my second thought was that I'd love to be able to use them for more than…

5 Minute Craft: Peek-a-boo Puppet

My daughter is obsessed with baby dolls.  She is so obsessed with receiving baby dolls as gifts, that she thinks that every present she receives (or anyone else for that matter) is going to contain a doll. Life can be disappointing sometimes. Especially when a prettily wrapped present does not contain a baby.

This is why I thought she'd get a kick out of this 5 minute craft that I whipped together during nap time.  What I put together was really intended to be a prototype, but it…

Ridiculously Easy: Apple and Yogurt Salad

This is a quick, easy, fresh and tasty side dish that you can add to almost any meal. Perhaps this is even too simplistic to blog about, but it is one of my favorite salads (and apparently a favorite with my nieces and nephews as well) so I decided that I'd get it out there.

What…

How to Be Summer Ready

As summer finally begins to make itself known around here (I know, everyone else is experiencing record highs, right?), last week I found myself feeling outsmarted again by our stuff.

"OK, everyone outside."

"Wait, where's your hat?"

"Do you have sunblock on yet?"

"I don't know. Where IS the sunblock?"

"Who used the sunblock last?!"

I've said it a million times. But here it goes again. My job description oftentimes feels like it must read: 50% SAHM duties /…

How to Make Sunshine

Today we rose to a sun that was trying it's darndest to burn through the mist that shrouds the redwoods. It'd peek through momentarily, lighting up the whole living room, and within minutes hide again beyond the mist.

Finally at ten o'clock the…

Making Contact...Again

By the end of the month, my girls look shaggy. Not shabby, mind you. Just a bit more unkempt. That one spot that always gets a tangle every.single.day. remains tangled. Hair is in their eyes. Bothering them. And unknowingly bothering me too.

And shaggy is all good. I'm into it...to a degree. But what… Continue

Washing Dishes...Again

When we moved to our new home eight months ago, I was worried. You see, our new home has no dishwasher. And I had kind of made a personal vow that I would never move to another home without a dishwasher again until all my kids had left the nest.

I love dishwashers. Matter of fact, if I had to put all my appliances in order (yes, odd, but something I've done while living without electricity in the rainforest), it would be like this:

1. Stove (Burners beat out all. Plain and…

Our Chicks are Here!

Chickens were a fleeting dream I had a few years ago.

We were living in Berkeley, California, a full-blown suburban city, when we first began our new phase of life with kids. We lived in a little flat there near the highway. My husband rode his skate board to work and I walked E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E. (Oh do I miss those parks. There were green, grassy parks and playgrounds literally every 6 blocks there.) And my natural-outdoorsy minded self simply dreamed of a little bit of land to care… Continue
