My Big Fat Mommy Screw Up

Last night was the biggest mommy screw up of my mommyhood experience. And I have a LOT so you know it is huge!

You already know how exhausting our bedtime routine is. And if not, please feel free to catch up, shake your head, and send coffee here.

So yesterday, after being up with Katie past 11pm, being up with her from 2- 3:30am, and then having her wake up at…

A very short list of the main topics?

Well…here it comes.

You will not:

Baby Brain

What happens when you only communicate with

early-verbal humans?

My husband’s new gig means he keeps coming home with VIP tickets to all sorts of events. Last month it was the Open air Cinema in Sydney and this month Enlighten in Canberra. Three years ago I would have been ecstatic, and… Continue

Perchance to Dream

Perchance? Fat chance. Sleep is not happening in my household.

The fantasy of a good night's sleep is a distant memory as I consider keeping my eyelids open with toothpicks. Yea, it's that bad.

On a recent work night, I had the honour of being woken up at 1:24am, 3:27am, 4:17am and 5:20am respectively. The last occurrence was the one where I threw in the proverbial towel, made myself a huge pot of coffee and jumped in a steaming shower with hopes that … Continue

The Fitbug - Motivation in my Pocket

I do enjoy my workouts… the second they are over. Granted, there is a definite sense of pride and “I did good for my body today” feeling that follows a good workout. But somehow, that sense of achievement holds no reserve to motivate me for any subsequent workout. I’m on my own. Left to my own device, I would probably never exercise. And really, I only workout because I have to. I wish that I were one of those that could get lost in the endorphin…

A Watched Tooth Never Cuts

Read my blog at http://laurdoone.com

I've told pretty much everyone in the free world, but FYI, Aidan is teething.  However, this child has been teething FOREVER.  Or so it feels like.  We're pretty convinced that the top two teeth are going to come in right about at the same time because we can see the whites just behind the gum.  We've been able to see them for weeks and weeks.

Every night when I put him to bed I say "I think they're…

Do Your Kids Sleep With You?

An article on the Access Hollywood Web site recently got my attention: "Mayim Bialik Talks Unconventional Parenting." I was interested first of all because it was about Blossom. Can you believe that show was 20 years ago? Will that poor girl ever NOT be Blossom??

Second of all, it was about "unconventional parenting," and I had to read it because I was sure…

Dreams 101

I woke up this morning having had a nightmare right before I woke up. Not the zombies chasing me, end of the world apocalypse type of nightmare, but the type where you wake up thinking, 'Great, like I needed *that* on my mind.'…

Sleep Deprivation Related to Weight Gain

There seems to be a number of contributing factors to the obesity epidemic our nation is facing. Some of these include excessive caloric intake, decreased physical activity and cultural influences. Now some researchers are investigating whether sleep deprivation may contribute to obesity.

Research presented at the International AC21 Research Festival points out that short sleep duration may lead to obesity through an increase of appetite via hormonal changes caused by the sleep… Continue

Drift Off to Dreamland

http://projectsupermom.blogspot.com/2010/10/drift-off-to-dreamland.html

After a weekend filled with MUCH earlier starts to my mornings than I can truly handle, I was reminded, once again, of the power of getting a good night's sleep. I can function with 7 but much prefer 8 hours of sleep a night, which is a more elusive target to hit, since I became a mom. Those nights of a couple blocks of 2-3…

Parenting Truths Revealed…

Things “They” Never Tell You…

As I make my way through the minefield of parenting, I have come to realize that there are far too many things no one ever bothers to tell you…BEFORE you have kids. It’s highly possible that these secrets are so closely guarded as to ensure the survival of the species. Whether or not these secrets would have changed my mind on…

Rest In Peace

The best sleep I’ve ever experienced has happened at church. It was delicious. All warm and cozy. I was out as soon as my head hit the mini-van headrest. No, I wasn’t at a drive-in church. Do they have those? If not, I’m telling you that is a good idea. I was in the church parking lot which I have found makes an optimum place to nap.…

Diet and Weight Loss: Are You Gaining From Sleep Loss?

Weight loss and sleep have a relation to one another and believe it or not the impact sleep loss has on your weight loss success is massive.

Within a weeks time many people will be, if they aren't already, trying to get rid of the extra pounds they put on over the holidays.
