Tonight as I put my 3 year old to bed, I realized that I do not have to rock him to sleep anymore. How did that happen smoothly?! As I finished my little happy dance, I was overcome with a bitter sweet…

There seems to be a number of contributing factors to the obesity epidemic our nation is facing. Some of these include excessive caloric intake, decreased physical activity and cultural influences. Now some researchers are investigating whether sleep deprivation may contribute to obesity.
Research presented at the International AC21 Research Festival points out that short sleep duration may lead to obesity through an increase of appetite via hormonal changes caused by the sleep… Continue

After a weekend filled with MUCH earlier starts to my mornings than I can truly handle, I was reminded, once again, of the power of getting a good night's sleep. I can function with 7 but much prefer 8 hours of sleep a night, which is a more elusive target to hit, since I became a mom. Those nights of a couple blocks of 2-3…

Things “They” Never Tell You…
As I make my way through the minefield of parenting, I have come to realize that there are far too many things no one ever bothers to tell you…BEFORE you have kids. It’s highly possible that these secrets are so closely guarded as to ensure the survival of the species. Whether or not these secrets would have changed my mind on… Continue

The best sleep I’ve ever experienced has happened at church. It was delicious. All warm and cozy. I was out as soon as my head hit the mini-van headrest. No, I wasn’t at a drive-in church. Do they have those? If not, I’m telling you that is a good idea. I was in the church parking lot which I have found makes an optimum place to nap.… Continue

Weight loss and sleep have a relation to one another and believe it or not the impact sleep loss has on your weight loss success is massive.
Within a weeks time many people will be, if they aren't already, trying to get rid of the extra pounds they put on over the holidays. They may also find themselves desperate to catch up on sleep due to the demanding parties, gatherings, social events, and fundraisers we find ourselves involved in over the holiday season.
It is… Continue

It's a battle that is fought every night by every couple in the world on some level. Some battles are more fierce than others. Some end in bloodshed while others end in complete tyrannical takeover. The people that used to occupy a space are ousted from their homes and forced to seek refuge somewhere else (usually the couch). Adding a twist… Continue

That’s right: I cosleep with my baby. It is not something I do because I’m too lazy or inept to make him sleep on his own, or because I have some unhealthy need to make him overly dependent on me, or because I am simply too stupid to know better. It was not a “bad habit” that we formed. It is a conscious decision that I made based on research and what felt right for us.
This is a topic that has come up a lot for me recently. There’s been discussions with fellow co-sleepers about… Continue

I wanted to write a great post tonight. Ideas ran through my head all day…and kept on running right out of my head. I’m suffering from exhaustion, completely. Two nights of minimal sleep and booked solid days. Add PMS to that mix. You get the picture…..and it’s not a pretty one.
I’m sitting here now on this very comfy chaise sofa, feet stetched out in front of me. Puppy laying against me. Everyone here is asleep. No television on. The window rattling snoring my husband serenades me… Continue

The following is an excerpt from a great article found in Young Living's Essential Lifestyle magazine.
We have all felt the effects of sleep deprivation: that zombie-like feeling that consumes us the moment we roll out of bed. Our eyes are heavy, we can't think straight, everything is a blur. Like mechanical robots, we go about our day not fully comprehending what is going on around us.
The negative effects… Continue

Last year, five of my friends, including myself, were all pregnant. It was the first baby for all of them, but I was on my second. The days of their disinterest as I rambled on about the greatest children’s products were now ignited by their own fervour and zest for the latest baby merchandise. I had to smirk as they discussed which video monitor was essential or how the trendy fifteen hundred dollar stroller was about to go on sale. All too often I was read reviews, taken to stores, shown a… Continue

This is so not the post you THINK this is.
Peter and I used to have a nice constant sleeping pattern. I’d crawl into bed and be sound asleep while he passed out on the couch watching Scrubs/Stargate/ESPN. Then he’d quietly make his way to bed at some point in the dark of night, being very careful to not wake me. Thus the peaceful co-sleeping would commence.
It’s been hard adjusting to sleeping without Pete since he moved to Alabama to work. At first it seems like the bed… Continue
