Back Sleeping: The Most Recommended Baby Sleeping Position
Not all sleeping positions are created equal. Believe it or not, some sleeping positions are not safe and can put your baby’s life at risk. If you finally got baby to sleep, knowing the right sleeping position is as important as feeding your child, it could - save the life.
Checking your sleeping newborn is normal. It only shows you want to make sure everything is fine.…Continue

It's 3 AM (or any other time in the middle of the night). The baby starts crying. She is awake for a bottle. I lay there for just a second to let my body get used to the idea that I'm about to wake up and climb out of a comfy bed. Ugh!
The baby is still in our room so I don't have to go far. She cries a little bit as I change her diaper and get her bottle ready. I usually sit on our bed…Continue

Camping isn't on our list of trips for this year (maybe next year), but I still wanted to introduce my kids to one of the great camping experiences ever... S'mores! There's just something about the ooey, gooey, stickiness of the marshmallows and the sweet, smooth chocolate that is enough for me to deem camping as one adventure that everyone must try... at least once in their life. (Of course, there is the beauty of nature and all the creatures you may not normally see, but I'm speaking…Continue

When Joshua was between three and five months old, I was walking out of Panera with my Frozen Mocha in one hand, and lugging Joshua in his carrier in the other. I was admiring the energy of a little boy that appeared…Continue

I cannot be the only one…who was shocked when my child moved past infancy and was still not sleeping through the night. This is something that no one warns you about when you're pregnant, most likely because they don’t want you to jump off a bridge by overwhelming you with the REAL truths about motherhood, but when the Sonny Boy continued to wake us way past three years of age, I figured I would have a lifetime of exhaustion to look forward to.…

Co-sleeping is a fairly common practice and many parents sleep in the same bed or room with their young baby or toddler. This is a very controversial topic in the United States and most people think co-sleeping is completely dangerous and that it should be avoided. However, as a mom I know how hard it is to be able to get a good night sleep especially…Continue

I wanted to call this post I know best, but thought it might be a bit too presumptuous. So, I disguised myself as a Mother. Which I am. Since getting this honorary title, I have discovered it comes with so many responsibilities. The famous line of from J.F.K. comes to mind, somewhat altered though: "ask not what…Continue

I was the first of my family and friends to have a baby last year during the baby boom. Cousins were pregnant, co-workers were pregnant, friends were pregnant, even famous people who are significantly older than me were pregnant. I began to suspect babies aren’t really made the way my mother told me. I think sometimes you can get pregnant from drinking water.…Continue

My son doesn’t have a Jack-in-the-box. Excuse me while I pause and breathe a sigh of relief.
But what does alarm me are the toys that play music, light up, or have some other battery operated function… especially at 3 am.
If you’re a mom it’s not hard to imagine that 3 am wake-up call from your child. You hear a small sound coming from the baby monitor and hope it doesn’t become a bigger more upset sound. But the moans and groans become a cry and you accept your fate (if you…Continue

What? You mean you don't have a son who likes to shop at Bed, Bath & Beyond? Really? Well, believe it or not, mine does. Perhaps it's because he's the type of kid, bless his unique little heart, who gets fixated on totally random objects. Lord knows why, but his latest fascination is a black, plastic clip-on fan, which he apparently saw on a recent laundry basket…Continue

Thanks for all the advice! My schedule has always been to give her a bath at around 7, then nurse, then bed by 8. I tried moving it up earlier but she would end up fussing and falling asleep even later. My pediatrician said to feed her 3 solid meals a day and nurse in between. Continue Reading

Ways to Trick your Baby:
Problem: Your kid, to put it mildly, wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. It seems no matter what you do, you are going to be graced with a crying jag leftover from sleep. Nothing appeases, nothing stops it. She's just cranky when she wakes up.
Solution: Try to get there right before she wakes up. This has worked for me about 50 percent of the time. It's hard to pull off because sometimes the babies will sleep for an hour, other times…

Inspired by my friend Chelsea:
Ways to trick your baby:
Problem: You've just switched over to the toddler bed (or taken the rail off your now-outlawed crib), and your toddler has discovered he has run of the room. Instead of sleeping, there's a raucous party going on in there, a party of one (or in my case, two). You've taken all the toys out of the room, you've made sure it's as boring and calm as it could possibly be, and still, your child has developed an imagination…

An article on the Access Hollywood Web site recently got my attention: "Mayim Bialik Talks Unconventional Parenting." I was interested first of all because it was about Blossom. Can you believe that show was 20 years ago? Will that poor girl ever NOT be Blossom??
