Mother knows best
I wanted to call this post I know best, but thought it might be a bit too presumptuous. So, I disguised myself as a Mother. Which I am. Since getting this honorary title, I have discovered it comes with so many responsibilities. The famous line of from J.F.K. comes to mind, somewhat altered though: "ask not what…

Top 10 Baby Myths
By: Jennifer S.
I was the first of my family and friends to have a baby last year during the baby boom. Cousins were pregnant, co-workers were pregnant, friends were pregnant, even famous people who are significantly older than me were pregnant. I began to suspect babies aren’t really made the way my mother told me. I think sometimes you can get pregnant from drinking water.…

The Toy-Which-Must-Not-Be-Named
My son doesn’t have a Jack-in-the-box. Excuse me while I pause and breathe a sigh of relief.
But what does alarm me are the toys that play music, light up, or have some other battery operated function… especially at 3 am.
If you’re a mom it’s not hard to imagine that 3 am wake-up call from your child. You hear a small sound coming from the baby monitor and hope it doesn’t become a bigger more upset sound. But the moans and groans become a cry and you accept your fate (if you…

What? You mean you don't have a son who likes to shop at Bed, Bath & Beyond? Really? Well, believe it or not, mine does. Perhaps it's because he's the type of kid, bless his unique little heart, who gets fixated on totally random objects. Lord knows why, but his latest fascination is a black, plastic clip-on fan, which he apparently saw on a recent laundry basket…

Thanks for the advice!
Thanks for all the advice! My schedule has always been to give her a bath at around 7, then nurse, then bed by 8. I tried moving it up earlier but she would end up fussing and falling asleep even later. My pediatrician said to feed her 3 solid meals a day and nurse in between. Continue Reading

My baby won't sleep!

Ways to Trick your Baby:
Problem: Your kid, to put it mildly, wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. It seems no matter what you do, you are going to be graced with a crying jag leftover from sleep. Nothing appeases, nothing stops it. She's just cranky when she wakes up.
Solution: Try to get there right before she wakes up. This has worked for me about 50 percent of the time. It's hard to pull off because sometimes the babies will sleep for an hour, other times…

Inspired by my friend Chelsea:
Ways to trick your baby:
Problem: You've just switched over to the toddler bed (or taken the rail off your now-outlawed crib), and your toddler has discovered he has run of the room. Instead of sleeping, there's a raucous party going on in there, a party of one (or in my case, two). You've taken all the toys out of the room, you've made sure it's as boring and calm as it could possibly be, and still, your child has developed an imagination…

Do Your Kids Sleep With You?
An article on the Access Hollywood Web site recently got my attention: "Mayim Bialik Talks Unconventional Parenting." I was interested first of all because it was about Blossom. Can you believe that show was 20 years ago? Will that poor girl ever NOT be Blossom??
