Safety Tips to Prevent Your Dream Pool from Becoming a Nightmare

Whether it’s a cosy hot tub, a full-sized pool or something in between, having a private place to take a dip at home is one of life’s greatest luxuries. There is little that compares to shrugging off the day’s troubles with a few relaxing laps or a good book and the gentle massage of…

Odd Mom Out

I was a little snotty with the assistant principal at “K’s” parent-teacher conference last night. The middle school was alive with activity parents and students were all over the school meeting with teachers, signing up for after-school activities and having photos taken for what I don’t even know. I don’t know because none of that activity had anything to do with me or my child.

Sweet Dreams

One of the sweetest things “K” does is at bedtime. Happy Ending

My husband was putting “J” down to bed the other night. I had already said good night and hugged and kissed him and was downstairs folding laundry or putting away the dishes or performing some other evening chore, I’m not sure which and I lost track of how long the two of them had been upstairs when my husband called for me on the stairs. “Can you come help me with?” he asked.

Something must be wrong; I could hear the stress in my husband’s voice. I scurried to the stairs and asked,… Continue

The other shoe

“J” had a headache today. He spent most of the morning asleep on the couch and his dad and I spent the morning trying not to hover. Thirteen year old boys get headaches. Everyone gets a headache now and then. Everyone feels a little run down and naps on the couch on a lazy Sunday. When that person is “J”, however, my heart sinks.

It’s an almost every day feeling I describe as “waiting for the other shoe to drop.” You know you’re downstairs and you hear someone taking their shoes off… Continue
