When the opportunity to try this came, I understood that it was a popup tent, but I didn't really pay attention to how it would be packaged or put much thought into what it would look like. I just read "beach tent" and got excited because I always wanted…Continue

I spent my entire childhood surrounded by impressive young women. I spent long bus rides with them. Laughed with them, ran with them, and cried with them. This week the gym I grew up playing in got torn down. Well, the whole school is getting torn down, but I could really care less about that. I mean, I'm happy the kids of that town are getting a new school. It was falling apart when I was there 10 years ago, definitely necessary. Yet, something about that filthy old gym getting torn down…Continue

Last week one of my fantastic coworkers finagled a way for our team to go bowling together. She and I were incredibly excited to get the time away from work to do some team building - even though we both suck at bowling. We suck at bowling so much, that we happily dubbed our team, Team Suck.…Continue

When you first think of the word "date," it's easy to assume that it involves two individuals roughly around the same age who are in some type of romantic relationship, whether new or seasoned. While this may be true, "dates" can include kids, too. (preferably not in addition to the two individuals in a romantic relationship- that's what babysitters are for!) Special outings with just one child and…Continue
Here is my recent interview with John O'Sullivan, author of Changing the Game: The Parents Guide to Raising Happy, High-Performing Athletes and Giving Youth Sports Back to Our Kids. John is originally from New York and graduated in 1994 from Fordham University, where he was a soccer team captain…Continue

This was a weekend full of sports in my family. My 12 year old had a basketball game and my 7 year old had a soccer game and swim meet. As Rachel Macy Stafford says, I love to watch my children play. I have grown so much from the days when my 12 year old was just getting into sports - when my ego came roaring out to the field, the court, the pool - and I wanted him to excel at all costs. Regardless of his reasons for joining a team or for playing a sport (uh, maybe because…Continue

When I was young(er), I played sports, worked out often and did something a lot of kids do not do today...I played outside! I tried a different brand of sports drink during my active years and never liked them. The taste reminded me of water with a squirt of lemon, salt and a tablespoon of sugar. I couldn't understand the fixation other athletes had with it. Back then, that sports drink was our only option, because we were told…Continue

Two travel soccer leagues, piano, gymnastics, horseback, theater and various school activities. And sometimes a lacrosse clinic. Or basketball. Or we may take a cooking class some place.
Sometimes when I write it all down, it freaks me out a bit, and I ask myself, “Are we doing too much? Do my kids have enough time to play, or breathe?”
And then I…Continue
Unfortunately, we hear on the news all the time about parents full-out losing their shit on the sidelines of their kids' sporting events. A bad call can somehow turn supposed "adults" into the biggest meatheads on the planet. It's both despicable and embarrassing. And I thought I'd seen some pretty horrific behavior…Continue

On Monday, February 25, 2013, we welcomed our 3rd son into the world…
He’s perfect… all 8 lb. 6 oz. of him…
From his dark head of hair down to his 10 tiny PiggyToes…
2 Sleeps Peeps; that’s all.
I’ve lifted up my shirt maybe 5,793,421 times because every twist, lift and crunch feels like I released 497 stretch marks. And then, No. Not so… Not one… YET. They’re there though; I feel them…Continue

Ok, so for Christmas my 6 year old decided what he really wanted was for his bedroom to look more mature. His words, "my room is too babyish". As mentioned in a previous post, he gave his little brother a bunch of toys he felt he grew out of and since he is 6, we both agreed the Shamrock Green Crayola color was a bit outdated. So we went for a more Olive/Asparagus mix!
One of the gifts he received was a really cool item I found online. I was sick and tired of replacing those…

It's soccer season for many of our kids and this takes a lot of family commitment. Every weekend belongs partially to soccer and for some families there are weekday practices as well. During my many hours on the field, I've been noticing and appreciating the fathers who volunteer their time and effort by coaching the kids.…Continue

Ideas for how to connect with your family while you are running from one place to another!
Leaves falling, soccer balls, pumpkins, football jerseys, sweatshirts, crisp air...all indicators of autumn in full swing. While parents are busy driving from activity to activity and kids are getting back into the rhythm of school, we often forget how to connect with each other in the midst of all the busy. Here are some ideas:
