Although there have been a few “summer like” days, officially summer 2012 has come to a close. With the summer at an end I thought it would be a good idea to share some of my summer favorites. Being the product junkie that I am, and in true to form the list is rather long. Breaking down the list seemed easier and gives the illusion of not being the product junkie that most assuredly I am. There will be a…Continue

The beginning of the school year has brought about lot of changes my entire family has been having to adjust to. I'm still not waking up quit as early as I would like to be. I haven't read a single chapter of my beloved historical fiction novel. I can't go shopping at nine at night and expect it to still be daylight outside with the neighbor children still running and shouting outside after a one hundred degree day. My family and I just added a new addition to our…Continue

It's a holiday weekend. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and I have the day off.
I should be ecstatic. Instead, I'm fighting the blues. It's silly, I know. But end-of-summer time always does this to me. I absolutely love summer. I love the sun on my face, I love my little flower garden, and I love the lazy, slower schedule.
Tomorrow, the kids go back to school. And that means it's back to packing lunches, helping with homework, volunteering in the…Continue

** I often wonder whether I live in a house with two kids or a house with two pigs.
** Driving past a lemonade stand without stopping makes me feel guilty.
** I may or may not be a sucker.
** Gravity can kiss my ass (especially since it's responsible for knocking it down in the first place).
** Parenting without a…Continue

** Summer really needs a speeding ticket.
** Inspirational quotes do nothing but piss me off when I'm in a crabby mood.
** The Olympics have evidently convinced my kids that there's a vault in our second floor hallway. (And I assure you there is not.)
** My brain has a serious case of the farts lately.
** The top of…Continue

When I put my husband in charge of getting the kids somewhere, I can generally expect for at least a handful of important things to be completely forgotten. Try as he might, he just doesn't run through any sort of mental checklist before he races out the door. In fact, he's done this ever since the twins were little tiny babies, often leaving the house without so much as a…Continue

Last week, we took our official annual family camping trip. Each summer, we take one trip to a California State Park that I deem “official”because it is with kids and without cell phones, laptops, or iPods. The only media we allow are cameras and Kindles (for capturing memories, and because we can keep all our books in one place). What I discovered on this trip was that three days of no Facebook updates, no check-ins, no Tweets and no notifications can actually be…Continue

I am more than grateful for the genius who came up with the idea for summer camp. Cause if my kids didn't have somewhere to go each and every day? They would surely have killed each other by now. However, as much as I like the idea…Continue

A few of you out there may have a teenage boy. I personally have a 14 year old boy and am constantly stunned (and puzzled) how his behavior contrasts that of his older sister. I mean, I know there is of course a difference between boys and girls but this to me seems weird: he is embarrassed to wear sunscreen. Is your son/grandson the same way?
My most recent blog post provides a little bit of an overview of his distain for…Continue

July 4th is quickly approaching and it’s time to plan the BBQ menu. This is always a great time of year because you come together with family and friends to have a great time.
I am a lover of food, so I love discovering fresh new recipes. In addition to making hamburgers and hot dogs, I have decided to turn it up a notch this year and add a few fun new items to the menu. I googled recipes and here are a few I…Continue

If your kids aren't headed off to summer camp this year, you might be stumped as to what to possibly do to keep them entertained and keep you sane. And unfortunately where I live, fun, cultural and educational activities are rare jewels, so we typically have to venture off at least an hour to enjoy ourselves. But don't be discouraged if you live in Small Town, NC like me; North Carolina is chock full of other destinations that are well worth the travel time. I've…Continue

Summer hits, the dresses come out the closet. I can throw on a dress and run out the house, so I’m in love with the Maxi dress craze. I add about three summer dresses to my already well supplied dress “department” each year. I must say it has grown, but this year, it is time to retire some, as they have just “loved” me long enough, lol. As I was searching for new dresses, I came across Nordstrom’s website and…Continue

So I got that old familiar pit in the bottom of my motherly stomach again yesterday. It happened when I dropped my son off for his first day of Sports Camp. Yes, it's that same ol' dreaded feeling I seem to get whenever I leave my timid little guy in a strange new environment. You see, unlike his mama, he's quite the shy type, and it takes every bit of my willpower not to play the…

** A successful night is when the Tooth Fairy remembers to do her duty AND even has change for a twenty! Holla!
** Nine year olds evidently need to be reminded not to stick jelly beans up their noses.
** It's amazing how a closed bathroom door means nothing to my kids until they're the ones behind it.
** I like road trips…Continue

** Just so we're clear, I will still drink the wine if a fruit fly lands in my glass.
** The end of the school year is when all the crap that's been shoved into a tiny desk for nine months suddenly makes its way into your kitchen (or your trash).
** My son thinks I grew up in the early 1900's. Awesome.
** When you don't have…Continue

Skin cancer awareness is very important to me. Firstly, I was a cancer registrar for almost 2 years and saw the devastating effects of melanoma, especially in Utah. Utah has the highest incidence of skin cancers because people here are outdoors all year long, and a LOT of these people don't use sunscreen. Secondly, I was a lifeguard for four summers…Continue
