Summer Sun Safety

There is no feeling quite like the sun warming your face on that very first summer day. It reminds us of picnics, bar-b-ques, and time with friends and family at a beach or lake. But, while you’re enjoying the great outdoors, the sun is causing damage to your skin.

We all know that overexposure…

Family Fun – Spending the Afternoon at the Swimming Pool

Yesterday afternoon I decided to take the kids to the swimming pool for a bit of afternoon fun.  My older kids have been asking when they could go swimming every since school has been out for the summer.  I decided that I would surprise the kids and let them go swimming.  The look on their face was “priceless” when they discovered that we were going to go swimming.

Tips To Protect Your Family from the Sun’s Harmful Rays and Prevent Sunburns this Summer

As school is letting out for the summer, many parents begin planning activities to keep their child busy over the summer.  As a working mom, your child may go to daycare.  If your daycare is similar to the one my kids attended, they go on field trips throughout the summer to keep the school aged children busy.  If you don’t have a bottle of sunscreen…

Thank God for Summer Camp

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am more than grateful for the genius who came up with the idea for summer camp.  Cause if my kids didn't have somewhere to go each and every day?  They would surely have killed each other by now.  However, as much as I like the idea…

For teenage boys, wearing sunscreen is soooo not cool...

A few of you out there may have a teenage boy. I personally have a 14 year old boy and am constantly stunned (and puzzled) how his behavior contrasts that of his older sister. I mean, I know there is of course a difference between boys and girls but this to me seems weird: he is embarrassed to wear sunscreen. Is your son/grandson the same way?

My most recent blog post provides a little bit of an overview of his distain for…

EWG Sunscreen Guide 2012: Best for Baby and a Giveaway!

Skin cancer awareness is very important to me. Firstly, I was a cancer registrar for almost 2 years and saw the devastating effects of melanoma, especially in Utah. Utah has the highest incidence of skin cancers because people here are outdoors all year long, and a LOT of these people don't use sunscreen. Secondly, I was a lifeguard for four summers…

SPF (Stupidity Protection Factor)

I know I only post a small photo of myself on this blog. I’ll get all high and mighty and tell you it’s because I want my creative words to strike awe in your heart. Or the tried and true cliché that words are my most powerful tools.
In reality it’s cause I don’t want you all to be jealous of my fabulous sexiness. If Shakespeare was still hanging around he’d write sonnets extolling my beauty. I am a true rose amongst thorns.

Then the most amazing thing…

Ageless Skin De-Mystified

I have just celebrated my last birthday in my, ahem, later 40′s and I have come to realize that I am definitely looking my age. Which I have no problem with – really – as long as I “age gracefully”, I am happy with the way I look. I can truly embrace my wrinkles but, at the same time, I still do want my skin to look as healthy and toned as possible without resorting to “procedures”.…

Skin Cancer like beauty, is more than skin deep

In honor of the first day of Summer, which was yesterday, Welcome to my Public Service Announcement today. For those that have known me awhile, and even if you don’t, you know my disdain for cancer. It isn’t just because I lost my dad and my daughter has been fighting it most of her life, though that is more than enough reason for sure! Some of my older friends here know that I lost my first husband, Rob, to melanoma. It was first spotted on the top of his head by the woman that cut his hair.… Continue

Sunscreen Absolutely Necessary

School is out and all of my kids (nieces and nephew) came to visit. It is my job as an aunt to keep everyone entertained. From 5 years old to 11 years old, what a mess! Since they come and all want to do a collection of things I have decided to set up stations at the house. Of course, swimming, the doll section, the Wii, two TV zones, my nephew refuses to watch anything that has to do with dancing princesses, etc. They move around in the different areas, but the whole house becomes a disaster.… Continue

UV Protective Clothing, Myths and Truths about Harmful UV Rays

With summer on its way and the kids outside in full force, the dreaded battle of wearing sun protection arises yet again. I don’t know about yours, but my three-and-a-half year old refuses to wear a hat. It’s a constant battle that escalates into a full on tug-of-war every time we venture outside. I have tried every style of head covering, every color and every option, only to have them lost, left and… Continue

Babies and Sunscreen

Babyies and Sunscreen...

If you are a new mother and have a need to be in the sun this summer with your child you have probably noticed that every sunscreen you pick up is approved by the FDA for children over 6 months.

As an Arbonne consultant I have a client with 3 children who asked me last summer about the ABC Sunscreen and could it be used on her infant. When I called the product support team I received an interesting answer, paraphrased here:

The FDA places the… Continue
