5 Fun Ideas to Get Kids Outside This Summer

Let’s face it. In todays’ world, kids would often rather be spending their time indoors with the assortment of electronics we’ve left at their disposal. Whether they’re watching TV, playing video games or on a smartphone or tablet, the children of this new generation spend an alarming…

Family Fun – Spending the Afternoon at the Swimming Pool

Yesterday afternoon I decided to take the kids to the swimming pool for a bit of afternoon fun.  My older kids have been asking when they could go swimming every since school has been out for the summer.  I decided that I would surprise the kids and let them go swimming.  The look on their face was “priceless” when they discovered that we were going to go swimming.

Swimming Pool Safety Tips to Keep You and Your Family Safe This Summer

I always loved summer time as a kid, it meant spending time at the pool and hanging out with my friends on the weekends.  While I was growing up, my mom would often invest in a small wading pool for us so that we could swim in the backyard.  A wading pool is a small pool that is usually a few feet deep and can fill it up with water so that you can swim…

The Water Park Souvenir

If you've ever wondered where all the germs go to party, I'm pretty sure I figured out their favorite stomping ground.  Just visit any given water park, and you'll surely find a whole gaggle of germ dudes and germ dudettes gettin' their freak on.  How do I know this?  Cause my family just spent this past weekend at one, and I've got the mental scars (and the super sexy fever…

Tredding the Waters with My AquaTot

This summer, I'm taking another round of "swimming" classes with my toddler. For her, it's a way to get comfortable in the water; I know she will not master the art of the backstroke but she will learn to float on her back.

But for me, it's a lesson on what not to wear, what to bring and what to really do in the water with my tot! (Yes moms and dads, if you want your child to blow bubbles in the pool then you too must insert face in water!)

Come share…

Let the Summer Begin...

It is the close of Memorial Day weekend. We have definitely had our fair share of grilling, gardening and relaxing. We finally got our pool open so there will be lots of pool time in the
coming weeks. The weather has
turned warm…hot almost and there is a smell of summer in the air.

All Trussed Up

out five days a week. I’m not a

masochist, I am just an organized, goal oriented, stick to my routine type of

gal. If I don’t make it one day or

one week or for three weeks, I try very hard not to beat myself up. I just start over the next week.…

How easy is it to watch your kids?

Who has lost track of your child for a minute? A few minutes? Come on, I know I’m not the only one who has had that shot of pure panic at Target when one kid was begging for a toy and the other decided to play hide-and-seek under the clothing racks. Or how about at the airport when you are scanning the carousel for your luggage and suddenly realized your kids aren’t right next to you? At the…

Tag, you're it! A great game that keeps your kids safe at the pool.

Mary Ann Downing of Pool Safety Solutions posted a great technique for keeping kids safe at backyard pools. Check out http://www.ehow.com/how_5884519_use-safer-backyard-pool-event.html?shared=true. Basically, each responsible adult takes the ‘tag’ and spends 10 minutes watching all the kids near and in the pool. When the 10 minutes is up they ‘tag’ another adult who then spends 10 minutes. What I love… Continue

Are you heading to the beach for spring break? Identifying safe surf....

Have you ever been caught in a current and felt like you were out of control? When I was about 13 I spent the summer with my cousins in Los Angeles. On a trip to Santa Monica beach I vividly remember being smashed down by the surf while I was body surfing. I was twisted and turned by the waves, dragged out to sea with the sand scrapping my stomach and back. I frantically tried to get a foot-hold but it seemed forever (probably less than a minute) before I could connect my feet with the ocean… Continue

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall....turn around and hang on! My kids have been doing ‘Humpty Dumptys’ since they were 6 months old. Water safety is the first line of defense in keeping kids safe. They sit on the side of the pool and you recite the familiar nursery rhyme and help them ‘fall’ into the water, head above water first and then as they get comfortable they lean forward and fall under the water, then you help them ‘turn around and hold on’. Say the words over… Continue
