How long can you ignore your phone?

I'd like to issue a long-overdue apology to each of the five roommates I had in college: I'm sorry that I did not answer the phone when it was ringing. I knew that it drove you crazy, but I was absorbed in something else/didn't feel like talking to anyone, and thus, did not answer the phone.

But, I…

It's never too early to start planning Mother's Day

For anyone who does not realize this: Mother's Day is a big deal. It is a chance to tell your Mom how much you love and appreciate her.

And, for me, (and with the help of a little technology) it is the chance to drive her a little crazy.…

The family that texts together, stays together?

If you couldn't tell from this blog, I love my Mom. (Hi, Mom!) I try to keep in touch with her - we do in-person visits, Facetime, regular phone calls and texts. I even sometimes play text games with her near her birthday or mother's day, where I will text pictures of my cat for a week until she tells me to stop it and send a picture of her grandson. (It's a fun game; you should try it with your parent of choice.)…

Texting with the Shorties

14594978_WelcomeToTheFuture_03112013Final1

As a parent, technology is often my worst enemy.  Not only does it turn my son into a zombified video game addict half the time, but it also gives me gray hairs worrying about the prospect of someone sending a damn naked picture to one of my middle schoolers.  (*Gasp!!!*)  However, I'm starting to…

Can you text and walk at the same time? (Hint: The answer is no)

We all know not to text and drive by now. (Right?) But how many of us walk and text or participate in other forms of "distracted walking?"

I try to be cognizant about not using my smartphone around my son - to be fully present when I am around him so that his main childhood memory of his mother isn't one of me with my body hunched over a handheld screen. But I know that I have texted…

I Caught Rascal Hiding in my Plant Sending Text Messages

Rascal had to be rescued from the dog kennel yesterday while I went to run a few errands.  The dog was giving him the evil eye yesterday for being in her kennel and I didn’t want her to take revenge on him.  So I placed him on the fireplace mantel so that he was safe and out of harms way.

Read the rest of the story and find photos of Rascal's adventure at…

Things I've Learned This Week

** We actually made it to the beginning of the school year without my kids stabbing each other!!

** My son can evidently make his leg fart.  (I'm so proud.)

** I can't even watch the previews for scary movies anymore.

** I'm raising the king and queen of…

Another Slave is Born

Did you know there are over 5 billion cell phone users in the United States?  Neither did I.  I can remember the days when we didn’t have cell phones.  No texting.  No internet at our fingertips.  Hell, no internet.  Communicating was a little slower, and it was more difficult to find your husband in the mall, but we survived.

Every year texting and driving injures 2X more teens THAN DRUNK DRIVING...

Recently posted an to an argument to JustLikeSuperheroes FOR controlling teens and texting with technology. I am looking for OPINIONS ladies!

From my point of view, tweens and teens need to be guided and taught. I know we can't be there all the time, but if technology can help us, why not use it? Please post to the blogger site! Appreciated.

How will todays's electronic crazed kids turn out?

I have not seen the movie AVATAR in 3-D, but a thought suddenly occured to me: How would a child from some remote African village, one who has never seen a movie react to wearing special glasses and watching AVATAR in 3-D? Would they think the characters were real? Would they run out of the movie theatre screaming? Or would they simply get hooked like most teenagers since the movie surpassed the $1 billion mark.

What are your thoughts on that?

Texting - Walk the Talk

I got busted! With all my high and mighty talk about placing limits on my kids' texting habits, it appears I needed a reminder to follow my own rule.

We took our annual family trek to Frankenmuth, Michigan a couple of weeks ago. For those of you who've never heard of Frankenmuth, it's a super cool town known as "Michigan's Little Bavaria." It is also home to the uber-famous Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland, the world's largest Christmas store. Bronner's unabashedly proclaims "the joy… Continue

Techie Teens

I recently read a blog article titled, “Controlling the Techie Tween,” by Gila Brown, parent coach, over at Mamapedia Voices.

I read with interest, her parental coaching tips regarding technology and tweens. She states, “While kids may not be able to articulate their need for gadgetry, parents need to understand and respect it. Trying to control the usage or censor the content, only serves to undermine the parent-child relationship.” And, “The bottom line is that trying to control… Continue
