Redemption?

Finally. Kevin and I are finally nearly done with Raelyn's birthday

preparations and I'm feeling good. Everything Raelyn specified from

cake to decorations has been fulfilled. The cake is ordered (My Little

Pony ice cream cake filled with cotton candy ice cream. This ought to

be interesting!), every My Little Pony decoration you can imagine (and

a Spongebob Squarepants candle for the cake. Go figure.), and the

presents are bought (a new bicycle which still needs to… Continue

sex and the city

I love the ladies from SATC. I have been watching the show since its inception: it was a great excuse to buy the much coveted HBO. Anyway, I’ve followed the ladies through all of their trials and tribulations, cried, yelled at and talked to them. When the show ended I felt like my friends had left me. I was sad and lost. By that time I had lost all hope in TV. When SATC came back in reruns on TBS I…

Sex and the City 2: The Charlotte Syndrome

I recently watched a screening of "Sex and the City 2." Yes, the clothes were over the top. Yes, the indulgence was completely ridiculous. Yes, most of the movie was a fantabulously fantastic, overexcessive, and overabundant in richness---and we true SATC fans absolutely adored each moment of it!

I do applaud the introduction of the storyline involving the complexity of motherhood. In one of the…

Southern Hell

As you’ll find on my “About Me” page, I’ve pretty much lived in the same area all of my life except for three years that I lived in Southern Hell. I’m not going to go into detail on where that is exactly, but let’s just say its east of the Mississippi River and south of I-40. I had a visitor who lives there over the weekend and we got to talking about it, so I thought I would share my experience…

The Mother’s Day Gift to Give Yourself

Mothers can have bad days – kids misbehave, work gets on top of you, the house is a dump, your husband is being useless, etc. Mothers often tell me that when they are having a bad day, they think of me and they instantly feel better. The chaos in my life provides them with some comfort in those manic mama moments.

But I have to let you in on a little secret: it’s not that bad. In fact, it’s pretty darn good. Sure, I don’t get a lot of sleep and nights out on the town are few and far…

Brenda Novak's Online Auction to Benefit Diabetes Research

Diabetes is a killer. My 15 year old son was diagnosed with it when he was 11. It's been a tough almost five years, but things are looking up. I met Brenda Novak, a NY Times bestselling author, at a local writers meeting. Her son has the disease, too. Brenda is a dynamo. She took a proactive approach and started her Online Auction a few years ago. Since then, it's raised more than $700,000 for diabetes research!!

I host a page on the auction site, and this week Brenda is…

Giving Kids What They Don’t Want

I posted a blog recently about the value of saying “No” to kids. The gist was:

1) Your kids will be fine if they don’t get what they want all the time.

2) If you’re going to say “No” then be sure to follow through – unless you like to lead the double life of parent and white noise machine.

I just discovered another good time to say “No”– when it comes to buying them nice things. Ya know why? Because they don’t…

What's This "Internet Stuff" About?

Hubby DOES NOT understand anything that I do on the internet – EVER. I am completely addicted to my Blackberry and way ADD with it. I get antsy when I’m not doing this with my hands – weird, right? I’ll be sitting on the couch watching t.v. talking with my hubby after the kids are in bed and I’ll get antsy. Either I’m crafting, drawing, or on my Blackberry. And it drives him crazy… why? I really don’t know other than he wants me to pay attention and be 100% focused on…

Empowering Your Child...A Crossroad for Parents

The word "empowering" is floating around the parenting community quite a lot these days. When asked, most parents are in favor of it.

When you speak to parents about educating their children about the principles of the law of attraction, most are in favor of it.

Parents love the part about their children thinking positive thoughts, choosing positive actions, and being grateful for what they have in their life. However, as you go further into the meaning and purpose of… Continue

I want Moooosic Mummy!

This morning, after the dulcit tones of

"Mummmmmmyyyyy I wake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Swiftly followed by footsteps more befitting of a baby elephant than a 2 year old, my toddler arrived at my bedside.

We did our normal ritual. Wee wee, Peppa slippers, screams because I try and get away without carrying her down the stairs (oh my poor back).

Finally we arrive in the kitchen for milk. Things went wrong when she fell head first off the work surface and…
