Home is where the heart is. Sometimes it gets a bit stuffy though. Every once in a while it seems the air in the house is stagnant and not very fresh. No wonder with all the chemicals we get from the fabrics, paint and furniture that is in our houses. With spring here it is time to freshen the air in your healthy home.

Sometimes we all need a little food for our soul. The majority of us live away from nature in cities and suburbs, surrounded by buildings. Sometimes we get out to a park, enjoy some hiking or go camping but those times are often few and far between.

On March 5th, 1971 I was born. Yep, I just turned 40. All year I was talking about the big birthday bash we were going to have at our house – it was going to be quite the event! But the closer my birthday got, the more the idea of throwing a party became one big headache. So I started saying that I would have a party when the weather improved. When friends and family asked, I…Continue

When in doubt, or I should say riding some kind of mini-breakdown, I call my semi-alcoholic mother. Over the years I have figured out perfect timing before she goes in for the kill--"utter disappointment" is her nickname for me after say, 5 minutes on the phone. But until that point I find a kind of comfort, the imaginary mommy/cookies kind. Not that she was ever that person.
Despite my 15 years of wanting to live in a lovely white house on the beach, instead I have lived those…

"The reality is that women are treated differently by society for exactly the same reason that children and the mentally handicapped are treated differently. It’s just easier this way for everyone. You don’t argue with a four-year old about why he shouldn’t eat candy for dinner. You don’t punch a mentally handicapped guy even if he punches you first. And you don’t argue when a women tells you she’s only making 80 cents to your dollar. It’s the path of least resistance.…Continue

Yesterday I became a published author. Not an author of a whole book, but a published contributing author. A published, contributing author in a book that was printed and showed up on a bookstore shelf. The latest Chicken Soup for the Soul New Moms came out yesterday and you can find me on page 231.

I just finished reading a beautifully written book that I received as part of a blog book review tour from Feminist Press. Did you know that some younger women do not like to be called feminists? What is up with that? But I digress.Continue

One of the most pressing and vulnerable points of online shopping is a sizing issue: getting the right size or the pain of NOT getting it right. The sizing issue is so frustrating we decided to ask a pro: Stormy Sweitzer, owner and co-founder of SizeTracker, gave us 3 of the biggest reasons why kidshing sizes and fit vary from brand…Continue

Yesterday I posted on my blog (http://www.imoutragednow.com) about a great illustration on balancing the federal budget given by Johnathon Karl with ABC news. If anyone is interested, go to ABS News and look for Balancing the Budget: Where Does the Money Go?
He demontrated using a bunch of pennies on a table to show that what Democrats and Republicans are squabbling over is a nominal amount of money relative to the whole budget. Unless we're…Continue

As a former television news producer, this clip of Kermit the Frog, reporter, never fails to crack me up. In it, he is at the scene of breaking news - an ongoing, live accident scene. Humpty Dumpty has fallen off the wall.
The kids love it because it's a nursery rhyme they know mixed in with with intense imagery, so that they are both familar with…

So Facebook Causes has teamed up with the flower folks and has an awesome partnership... When you use THIS LINK to order flowers for your honey or whomever, $10 of your order will go to our project! How cool is that? We thought so too. So, yes, Valentine's Day flowers cost a fortune, but at least when you do it this way some of it is going to support indie film and is…Continue

Playing on Facebook can get you a job - I'm not talking about Farmville, though I'm sure there must be something for which those skills can be used. While Facebook is thought of by many as a way to pass the time, the social network has broad business applications if you use it right. And it's only one of many networking, aggregating, blogging and mini-blogging sites out there, all of which can be used to pad your resume.…

Social media has revolutionized what it means to be a mother. Sure, the basics of mothering remain the same throughout the ages, but with all the information of the internet at our fingertips, new theories catch steam quickly, unsafe practices are brought to light in front of large audiences, and people can pick and choose which parenting methods work best for them in real time, as these methods are being used and tested by others.
One of the largest drawbacks to staying at home…
