Don't wake that baby up

In our household I think about sleep a lot: Who is getting enough of it and how to get more quality sleep. I am obsessed over my own sleep as well as that of the bears I live with and help wake up in the morning.…

Then we had our little guy and life had to change: There were more important aspects to our life together than work.…

At least once a year, my Mom girlfriends and I rent a beach house together. It's in the off season, so the place we visit isn't crowded. We stay up late, sleep in, wear pajamas all day, eat yummy food and drink wine. There are only two rules:…

The full story of media abstinence for children

Before our son was born, my husband and I talked about what kind of environment we wanted for him. And one of the areas we agreed on was that we wouldn't expose him to a lot of media. The decision came from information from several sources citing that media use was not good for infants.

Traditional families in the game of Life

Santa brought us the board game Life for Christmas. I hadn't played that game since I was a child, and I was genuinely surprised at the amount of changes to it: The careers are different, there are lots more action cards and it is much harder to go into debt.…

Trying to stay off the "mommy track" at work

As mentioned in the past, I work for a great company with a great group of people. There are a lot of women on my team, and there are a lot of mothers. We understand what it means to be a working parent: We watch one another's backs and fill in when family emergencies arise.…

More kids equals more stuff done at work

Parents develop skill sets that no one talks about. In addition to awesome time management and the ability to function on a lack of sleep, we also have the ability to make up songs on the fly, invent games to distract children while waiting in line and even build super-cool forts out of pillows and blankets.…

Bed time at my house. (A little late)

For now, I'd say bedtime at our house is pretty calm. I know that will all change once Oslo arrives, though. So I'm really enjoying these last couple of months of easy nights.

We have a pretty basic routine.  This wasn't always the case.  Getting my son to bed was such a hassle until the past couple of years.  But now, finally we have a routine that he actually enjoys!

We've all got the blues

When I did my 100 book challenge last year, I would occasionally (and accidentally) get a large print book from the library. I'd crack it open, see all the large typeface and think, "Wow. That's kind of nice."…

  1. You make up the rules as you go along.
  2. You can't play the game the same way…

There's a Lego underfoot

When I first lived alone, I was mildly afraid of the dark. I would hate investigating weird noises by myself and refused to leave the perceived safety of my bed in the middle of the night.

As a mom, I am afraid of the dark for a completely different reason: I am pretty sure I am going to step on a…
