Is Time Getting Away from You?

Rosemary Lichtman, Ph.D. and Phyllis Goldberg, Ph.D.

As you settle into the new year, do you sometimes feel like time is getting away from you? I make list after list of what I want to accomplish each day – and often get a large chunk completed - but never seem to get everything done. Now that I make my lists on my PDA, it's easier to just change the date and roll the reminders over to the next day. Yet the sense of satisfaction that I feel when I do finish a…

Birthday Craziness

     L's friend R had her 5th birthday today.  Both girls were invited to the party.   Before the party took SB  out to sell her girl scout cookies.  Sold 6 boxes in an hour.   Not too good of a sales day for a Saturday.   Last house we stopped at ended up being a girl scout leader.    We were informed in polite terms that we were trespassing on another's territory.   To my way of thinking if a girl hasn't gone out and sold in her territory halfway through the cookie sale then watch out.  …

Things I've Learned This Week

** The lighting in fitting rooms is nothing short of cruel.

** My toes are sooooo ready for flip flops.

** A clean car is pretty awesome (even if only for five short minutes).

** I probably owe the car wash an apology note.

** The appetites of my children dramatically increase the moment school lets…

Tummy Time Can Prevent Your Newborn from Developing Plagiocephaly

The “Back to Sleep” campaign was introduced in the early 1990′s to help prevent babies from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).  When a baby is born their heads are still soft and their skull will slowly harden over the next few months.  However, laying your baby in the same position all the time places gentle pressure on the back of the skull, causing it to slowly change shape.  Read the full post at …

Prioritizing time as parents

By Becky Shattuck, guest blogging from “I’m going to make it (after all)” (http://becky-shattuck.blogspot.com/)

It’s been said before. Parenting is both the hardest and most rewarding job in the world. I’m a stay at home mom. I’m with my kids pretty much all day long, every day, so I can attest to that personally.

Little kids need a lot of attention. Actually, that…

Time Travel, Adventure and Romance in Journey in Time, by Chris Karslen

Shakira Constantine is a beautiful, independent, successful London attorney. One night she meets handsome Alex Lancaster. There’s no denying that the sparks are mutual, even though she isn’t impressed by his riveting good looks and acting career.

Then fate plays a trick on her when he is unjustly sued for  sexual harassment and she ends up representing him. Of…

Becoming Full Time Housewife/Mother: The Transition

A couple months ago, I have finally started living the role that I thought would not be playing so soon – a full time staying-at-home-wife (and soon-to-be Mom, for the time being). I knew that this phase will eventually happen to me but I thought it would come much later.

Another life transition for me.
A little story about my dream

When I was younger, I have never envisaged the likelihood of assuming housewife title in my adult…

Mommy's Bed

My child knows that every night she has to go to sleep in her bed.  If she wakes up in the middle of the night from a nightmare she can climb into mommy's bed for some cuddling and to chase away the monsters.  Most nights when the bed routine starts she asks nonstop to sleep in mommy's bed.  Well, she doesn't say it in a full sentence she just repeats "mommy's bed?" over and over and over again.  On rare occasions when I just want her to fall asleep right away or I want some extra cuddling…

The Bedtime Story Mooning

One of my absolute favorite things to do with my kids is to read to them.  Since I happen to have a borderline obsession with children's books, I get absolutely giddy when they want to share in my love of literature.   That's why the bedtime story is one of my most treasured times of the day -- that is, until one of my twins decides to moon me right in the freakin' middle of…

Guilt Free Bedtime Routine

Let me start out by saying that I'm in no way claiming to be super mom or that I have it all together because I don't.

I have however, found an idea that works for our bedtime routine. I thought it might be helpful for other parents who also struggle with the challenge of wanting to end your…

Things I've Learned This Week

** I like electricity.

** Mondays are like a zit on your chin that won't go away.

** Politics are so freaking political.

** My kids could be drawing on their walls with Sharpies at bedtime, but as long as they stay in their rooms, I really wouldn't care.

** Nothing makes you prouder than your son yelling from the…

Quiet Activity Idea: Felt Alphabet

We generally struggle to find activities that will occupy the kids during church services on Sunday.  I lug a large tote bag filled with different items each week and pray that we can keep them entertained enough for me to actually listen during the meeting.…

Spending time with kids worth every minute of a "Wallace and Gromit" marathon

My son is a boy's boy, a rough and tumble kid. He likes football, plays baseball, watches racing. He doesn't hold hands with mom much anymore, and he only says "I love you" at night.

So that's why I owe a big debt of gratitude to "Wallace and Gromit."

I don't know if you've seen this British series, but my kids love it. I think it's just okay - but I'll admit, it's growing on me.

There are "Wallace and Gromit" movies and "Wallace and Gromit" shorts, and they all revolve…

It’s not that time….Elegy for a murdered son Trayvon Martin

To everything there is a season,

A time for every purpose under heaven:

A time to be born,

And a time to die;

A time to plant,

And a time to pluck what is planted;

A time to kill,

And a time to heal;

A time to break down,

And a time to build up;

A time to weep,

And a time to laugh;

A time to mourn,

And a time to dance;

Freaking Out About Co-Sleeping

In case you’re wondering why I look a little taller today, it’s because I’m standing on my mommy soap box. Check out Mommy DIY if you don’t want to read my statement, otherwise, read on.

I want to be a good mom, I really do, but I have no idea what I am doing! While I was pregnant I studied parenting literature, questioned other moms, and prepared myself for baby. Lately, people just tell me what to do when I’m…

How to Easily Organize Any Space In Your Home

Each day that I walk home from Aliya's bus stop I chat with one of my neighbors who also has a child that rides the bus with her. We basically share our thoughts on general things like life, kids and whatever we can think of for our five minute catch up as we walk home.

I work from home and I didn't have the previous day scheduled to work so me being my Martha Stewart self (I like to think so) kept myself busy. I told her how I organized Ayanna's entire closet before she came home…

'Quality Time'? What's That?

Can someone please explain to me what 'quality time' is? I hear a lot about it, and hear that sometimes it's not the quantity of time that you spend with your kids but the quality of the time spent that is what matters most. It seriously makes me wonder what the hell 'quality time' is.

Take our recent evenings, for instance. My kids and I have found the TV show 'Sliders' on Netflix's instant watch, and we've spent the last 3…
