Books essential for talking to our children about fire safety, not talking to strangers, getting lost and more.

I just posted a list of books that I have read that might help with discussions about fire safety, strangers, and getting lost. Feel free to check them out and to add any books that you may have read that you thought would be helpful to all parents. Thank you so much!

I am not Martha: Our Gingerbread Shanty

I think of myself as a pretty creative person, decent at crafting and creating. Apparently my crafting niche does not extend to the making of gingerbread houses however. First, I made the icing way too thin, so it took me 3 days and lots of strategic propping to get the house to stand up. I decided not to even attempt to prop up the chimney, so the kids and I put it aside ate it. Then, I made the decorating icing too thin so most of our candy decorations were…

Back To School: mUm, Where Did I Put My Book?

http://crikeymum.blogspot.com/2010/08/back-to-school-now-where-did-i-put-my.html

If, like me, you are counting the days 'til Summer holidays take a hike, then you are also getting ready for the back to school madness that, somehow clings to my, almost 11, step-daughter, and probably, most children this age!

This whole back to school madness, with missed lunches, dog ate…

Free Personalized Messages from Santa - Keep the Magic Alive :)

If you’re anything like me, you’re pushing the “Santa’s watching!!” line pretty hard these days. I know it’s not right to market Father Christmas as an Eye-In-The-Sky Tattler who punishes by withholding My Little Ponies and Cars, but the kids do seem to care about what he thinks, and it’s mighty hard to not exploit that…

Introducing "Get Crafty" on SoCalledMom.Com

Craft Challenge

Need a new hobby? Then look no further! I have always wanted to make my own stuff. Weather it be reconstructed, up-cycled, or handmade. I would look at projects and tutorials for hours on youtube, I would draw pieces of clothing I wanted to design, look at esty for inspiration, Yet I never really attempted to do much. I used to say "I can't do that, it looks complicated" and if you do too, know that you CAN! All it takes is some time, practice, and dedication. I will be…

Georgia O'Keffee's guardian angel comes forward quietly

Now that the world knows what I knew back then, I can blog about it! Tennessee’s attorney general, Bob Cooper, announced on Friday, October 22, 2010 that Fisk Alumna, Dr. Carol Creswell-Betsch, stepped forward with funds to keep the Stieglitz collection at Fisk University. To the shouts of many on the outside of the Fisk bubble, a Fisk alumnus was doing what alumni around the country do daily, support their school.

Let me give you a few… Continue

When Mommy’s A Mess

Do you ever feel, that as the centrifugal force of the house, that mommy’s mood sets the tone for the the whole family? This Blog post came to me a couple of weeks ago, when my girlfriend said, “Can you Blog

about how when we are not good, the rest of our family never feels good?

And how we can pull ourselves out of these slumps?”
