Time to "Face" Getting Older

We focus so heavily on our children’s birthdays and how fast they are growing up and getting older.  Newsflash…that means we are getting older too!  As my husband is about to turn 40 and I am only a few short years away, I have been focusing more and more on what it really means to be getting older.  In our twenties, my husband and I always talked about what 40 would look like.  When you are 21, 40 might as well be 70.  Not sure how it…

If I Knew Then What I Know Now

With a daughter in middle school, I am reminded daily that being 13 is the worst age to be, followed closely by 12, 14, and 15.  I’ve often said there isn’t enough money in the world to convince me to redo those awful years.

I see Elliott struggle with self-esteem, body image, and with social…

Dodging 40

On March 5th, 1971 I was born. Yep, I just turned 40. All year I was talking about the big birthday bash we were going to have at our house – it was going to be quite the event! But the closer my birthday got, the more the idea of throwing a party became one big headache. So I started saying that I would have a party when the weather improved. When friends and family asked, I…

From Blog To Book!

While I didn't get to show it off at my son's second birthday party because I didn't order it within enough time, I am so excited that I was able to finally turn my son's blog that I've kept for him of his milestones since birth, into a book. …

Temporary stay at home mom, and that's ok with me.

Two kids, two stints as a temporary stay at home mom….otherwise known as maternity leave.  My second “vacation” as many ignorant people around me prefer to call my time off is coming to a close.  Back to being a slave to the man next week.  I have mixed emotions.  I love my children.  I have…

The Very Merry Unbirthday

The Boy will be 5 in a few weeks. I keep telling him his birthday is coming but it's a concept he can't yet understand.

Another year without a birthday party. No rented venue or an apartment full of kids and their parents. No magician or clown or pinata. No pin the tale on the donkey or musical chairs.

We threw The Boy a party for this 3rd birthday.  In our apartment, with friends and family. But he was overwhelmed, over stimulated and not interested in the crowd of kids in… Continue

Long Term Concerns & Wishes

I spent the better part of my afternoon filling out a school application for Norrin. One application. Nine pages long. I took my time, printed as neatly as possible - even at the end, as my wrist began to ache. I needed his application to be perfect; the application was…

Old Dress to New Top!

I just started blogging about turning something old into something new. I have many clothes that are boxed up from my pre-baby times, that I have come to realize I will never wear again. Instead of throwing them out, I have decided to recycle them into something new that I can add to my wardrobe. This was my first attempt... I took this old summer dress, which is too short for me now, and turned it into a top. I am not an expert at sewing, but I can work a sewing machine. :) …

Turning 40: Glass Half Empty or Half Full?

I was walking down the street of our little town. The sun was shining in that nice indirect, fall-golden-afternoon way and a little breeze stirred the trees. 40. I'm getting there in a few weeks and I thought about being this age and having

a mortgage

a mini van

a little beer belly (man, if they told me I'd always look 5 months pregnant after my third child just around the midsection, I would have budgeted for a tummy tuck somewhere down the line)

There are two… Continue
