What would have been our first family vacation with our daughter has fallen through. We had planned to go to Valdosta, GA to Wild Adventures theme park. We booked the hotel and then come to find out, even though the park is open, its not open on the days we had planned to go. Option #1 - go earlier and pay extra hotel rates for weekend or Option #2 - find something else to do. We opted for #2 and I am now in charge of planning our hybrid staycation. My idea is that since we really haven't… Continue

Do you remember the first time you found out you were pregnant? You probably experienced all sorts of emotions ranging from joy to fright. But then you had 40 weeks to adjust. Although some of those 40 weeks were probably laced with nausea, back pain and all other discomforts that accompany pregnancy, you were still in a peaceful environment, living a quiet life with your partner. Then the labor pains began (or in my case, the c-section was scheduled) and somehow you… Continue

In our newly released WhyMomsRule.com poll, 80% of Moms will make some type of sacrifice to ensure their families have a vacation this year. Cost is still the primary concern for Moms, with their view of the economy tempering how they spend the household budget. However, Moms… Continue

As we all feel the weight of the recession upon us, we may wonder if we should be planning a mom vacation with our mom friends this year. Some of us may not have the discretionary income to take a vacation. Others will certainly choose to take a vacation with their family over their girlfriends, if limited to one vacation. The economy is affecting everyone, even the Housewives of Orange County! Although they still seem to go on vacation, perhaps they are not staying at the Ritz. Or maybe… Continue

I landed in Las Vegas after catching the red-eye flight for a long weekend with some of my friends. I left home in the middle of the night, already feeling tired from being up with my three year old daughter for the past three nights due to a fever. I felt some remorse about leaving her with her dad to go to Sin City, but I knew she was in good hands. I arrived in Vegas feeling pretty tired and didn’t know how I was going to survive in the city that never sleeps.
The last time I had… Continue

As part of the Gratitude Challenge
, I was technically supposed to post this picture to my social network on Day 7, (I'm way past that!) but the important thing is that I've gotten it out here now, right? I took this photograph during our amazing family vacation to Hawaii three years ago. It inspires gratitude in me on several levels.
For starters, all my life I've wanted to see… Continue

The great thing about taking a vacation from work is that you mental check out from work a few days before vacation starts. I found myself in this situation last Thursday around 3pm. Sitting at my desk, my work for the week completed, I was looking at my remaining vacation days.
As I was looking at the vacation days I had planned for… Continue

We are now in our six month of pregnancy and as a dual income household it's time to start figuring out who's taking off of work when and coming up with a schedule to maximize our family time together. Basically, Mommy will be taking her 6 weeks of leave (obviously since she did all the work) while Daddy will take a couple of weeks vacation when baby is born. After… Continue

It's been a rough few days with seeming more lows than highs in the mix. But as usual I made it through, with some laughs and love from my babies. I thought I'd share some of the photo memories that helped soothe my frazzled nerves. This is from a family vacation in 2006 when we took a drive to the North coast with our neighbours.

We had an awesome time visiting family that was 8 hours away. But it was so fun. I'm so glad my kids, especially my daughter, got to see and hang out with her grandparents and aunts and uncles. We don't have another trip planned until Christmas, but hopefully both sets of grandparents can make a trip out here this fall.
Check out more pics on my blog!

One week down, eight more to go.
This week four of the kiddos were enrolled in a little tennis camp in the neighbourhood for two hours a day. The plan was that in those two hours I would have enough time to clear out my e-mail inbox, update my Facebook status, spend a few moments on twitter, read a couple of blog posts and run an errand. The rest of my day would belong to the kiddos.
It rained this week and while I don’t mean to carry on and complain about the rain, tennis… Continue

When you have kids, making plans is hard work. Even if you only have two kids, it seems that as soon as you are walking out the door, someone comes down with fever. Plans are never made with complete confidence.
When you have a bunch of kids, there are way too many variables involved. At any given time someone either has a cold, pink eye, fever, rash, the vomits, head lice, a broken leg, or all of the above. On the rare occasion that every single child is in perfect health, plans are… Continue

Yes, it has been awhile since I sat down in front of my blogging page, and I have to say that I have missed it. I have been in a place where I don't think I could have blogged anything very positive, and I do like to be of a positive outlook. Life doesn't always seem to go that way. I try to take my problems to the cross, and teach my kids to do the same. Most always, our problems, in comparison to what our Saviour endured for us, seem so much smaller and most of the time, not as important as… Continue

I'm feeling so guilty about leaving my daughter for 7 days while I head off to a vacation destination with 100 business associates. But, sometimes we can all use a break too, even if it is work. And it's Malta. I'll have some down time which I hope to to use to take lots of vacation-style photos to use for upcoming blog posts. Thank goodness for email, text and cell phones, though. I'll be able to keep in close touch with her all week.

Recent visitors suggested I try to market our guest house to parents of Autistic children. Their child loved the animals and whole atmosphere of the farm. The parents were able to relax completely in the guest house and cook and do things whenever they wanted. They had been searching for 'hands on' activities for their child. He was able to feed the cows, visit the llama and bond with the goats. If anyone has any ideas how to target such an audience, I would greatly appreciate it
. Or if… Continue

This afternoon after church, I found that most of us were sitting on our couch with our computers. As I looked over to Luke, who was also typing on his computer, I thought about how fast Christmas vacation went by for him but for me also. He desires to go back to school a few days early so that he can work at his job. Why? He may be asking a special girl for her hand in marriage and he would like to save for her engagement ring. Can you believe that this little boy who named himself "Pastor… Continue

Joe and I are off to Mexico for our “Babymoon” on Wednesday. Our last hoorah before sleepless nights and breastfeeding take over. I plan on doing a whole lot of nothing, mostly laying on the beach or swimming in the ocean. I have felt so great throughout this pregnancy that when we planned this trip I thought nothing of the fact that I’d be six months pregnant by the time it actually came. I still feel pretty good and am not completely huge yet, but I am a bit nervous about the usual hazards… Continue

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of childhood, it was the age of parenthood, it was the epoch of excitement, it was the epoch of dullness, it was the season of laughter, it was the season of bickering.
It was summer, and it was family vacation time.
It is not often that a 30-12-year-old woman has the opportunity to vacation separately with her family of origin (mom, dad, and 30-10-year-old sister) and her family of record (husband and… Continue
