REcycling is Good. PREcycling is Better!

This blog is all about my family and me and our journey to be green.  In other words, we’re trying to be healthier, smarter and care for the planet that we have so graciously been gifted.  I consider us stewards that, at the very least, should make smarter choices and clean up our own messes.

Love That Lunch Duty

When I was working in our local school district, I had “lunch duty” each day.  Basically that meant helping the other two teachers make sure the kids each:

a.  had a lunch

b.  ate that lunch

c.  kept their “inside voices”

d. kept their hands to themselves; and

Food Waste Has Become a Big Global Issue

Growing up in a society that had a limited selection and shortage of certain foods, I became more aware of what food represents and what is its real value. Both of my grandparents had small farms with several domestic animals, and as a kid we used to help out in the garden and in the field a lot, weeding out vegetable beds, planting seeds, picking fruits and even digging out potatoes. The appreciation for our meal was that much greater, and we enjoyed every bit that was on the…

The Creature From The Back Of The Fridge

The meal was "out of this world." That's why it was saved, presumably.

And indeed, it may have been heavenly in its original form, I'm sure; now? Not so much.

A science project, perhaps, a study in microbiology and the tenacity of bacteria. Mould is a very curious but fascinating thing, I'm embarrassed to admit.

Of what do I speak? Surely you know: the evil that lurks at the back of the fridge (contained in Tupperware, of course).…

Stuff. Possessions. Things. We all have way too much of it. Especially if you have children or if you are one to hold onto things for sentimental reasons. (You know who you are!) There may be a psychological underlying reason why you hold onto your stuff, but no matter what the reason is, there are ways to help reduce and reuse it.

Here are some ideas to reduce and reuse:

Earth Promise: Green Your Mama

Environmentally friendly gifts are all the rage these days, but with the economy still dipping, you can still show Mom how thankful you are. Here are a few ideas that will let Mom know you not only adore her, but Mother Earth as well.

First and foremost, keep in mind what Mom’s hobbies are. Does she like to curl up with a good book? Purchasing books from a second-hand book store is not only a financially great idea, but applies the reusing thought process. Like Netflix’s movie rental… Continue

But do we watch what we don’t eat?

The…
